Can-Am Spyder recalls in Canada

Transport Canada runs its own recall programme. Its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones, so a Canadian owner reading a US-only list is reading about a different car than the one on their driveway.

2013 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2013288 28 Aug 2013 2,380 units in Canada

Brakes

On certain Can-Am Spyder RT series and Spyder ST series roadsters, heat build-up in the area of the brake master cylinder could cause the manifold inlet (a plastic cover on top of the master cylinder) to melt. This could cause a brake fluid leak, which may result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install heat reflecting shields.

2008 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2012422 12 Dec 2012 9,400 units in Canada

Fuel System

On certain vehicles, the fuel cap may not seal properly on the fuel tank filler neck and could allow fuel vapours to escape. Fuel vapours, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Owners will be sent an updated fuel cap.

2008 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2012421 12 Dec 2012 2,431 units in Canada

Fuel System

On certain vehicles, an incorrect fuel vapor canister vent hose may have been installed and could allow fuel vapours to escape in proximity of an ignition source. Fuel vapours, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace as well as re-route the vent line if necessary.

2008 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2010313 15 Sep 2010 4,871 units in Canada

Steering

On certain vehicles, a situation may occur where the operator is required to exert a force greater than expected to initiate the turning of the steering handlebar of the vehicle in order to correct its trajectory. At this increased level of force, the handlebar may be turned more than intended. If this occurs, an operator may steer the vehicle out of the driving lane or off the roadway, increasing the risk of a crash, resulting in possible serious injury or death to operators or bystanders. Correction: Dealers will replace the steering gear box with an updated version.

2010 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2010174 31 May 2010 448 units in Canada

Powertrain

On certain Can-Am Spyder RS and RT, equipped with an SE5 semi-automatic transmission, the clutch may remain engaged while the vehicle is brought to a stop, which could cause the engine to stall. Should the engine stall, it may be impossible to re-start. As well, the rear wheel may be locked, making it difficult to move the vehicle out of the way of other road users. Engine stalling, and the resultant loss of propulsion could, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Dealers will update the centrifugal clutch assembly.

2010 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2009353 17 Dec 2009 62 units in Canada

Electrical

On certain Can-Am Spyder RT Roadsters, the ignition switch harness may be routed too tight and the connector to the ignition switch may not be locked properly in place. This situation may cause the harness to unplug itself from the ignition switch causing the vehicle to stall without warning. This could result in a crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, reroute the ignition switch wiring harness.

2008 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2009136 11 May 2009 3,071 units in Canada

Steering

On certain vehicles, greater than expected force may need to be exerted in order to initiate turning of the steering handlebar from center position while underway. Once handlebar turning is initiated, however, the resistance reduces and steering mechanism movement responds to operator inputs normally. This higher than expected initial steering input force may cause the operator to overshoot a steering correction or turn, causing an unexpected deviation from the intended vehicle path. This could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the dynamic power steering (DPS) system.

2008 Can-Am Spyder Recall 2007382 30 Nov 2007 310 units in Canada

Brakes

On certain vehicles, air in the hydraulic brake system could allow the brake pedal to be fully depressed while not delivering corresponding brake performance. This could increase the vehicle's stopping distance and cause a crash resulting in property damage and/or personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will bleed the brake system.
