In 2023 we purchased this RV. Recently, we discovered that the cargo carrying capacity is incorrect by about 900 pounds, subject to Recall 23V-428. Grand Design knew of this defect before the rig was sold; however, they didn’t remove the vehicle from the dealers lot, nor were we ever contacted by Grand Design. Grand Design knew of the issue in June 2023, and we purchased our rig in July 2023. We also have had the rig in for repairs for broken leaf spring supports and now they’ve done some welding on our frame because of frame flex issues.

Scheduled appointment with dealer for the Grand Design Frame Flex recall today, 22 May 2026. Approximately 4 hours after dropping the trailer off the dealer called and said that the technician found significant frame flex and that the unit was unsafe to be towed. No other information was provided. I did ask for the measurements that the TSB 24-001 requires to be filled out ans submitted to Grand Design. The lady that called was completely unaware of what I was asking for.

My Momentum 5th wheel is experiencing frame flex and wall separation . This condition is causing damage to the interior side wall adjacent to cabinets in the bedroom wall. Frame and or wall assembly is excessively moving in transport and during hooking and unhooking from the unit. Unit will be inspected in the near future by a Grand Design authorized service agents. The condition is further degrading the safety of the unit with each use in transit.

Our camper has frame flex. We opened a claim in October 2025 with Grand Design. Received a letter stating they would cover any repairs. It's been in the shop now for over a month and they keep telling us the claim is "in review". Our upper deck frame is cracked/broken, our walls are separating, the door opens when we are traveling down the road. The roof is falling apart, bubbled and cracking. Side walls are cracked. We've sent pictures, the shop has sent pictures and we are getting no answers. The newest they are telling us is that it's now out of warranty. The camper isn't safe to tow and they aren't fixing it or providing the shop with details on how to fix it.

Lippert (authorized facility) repaired frame 11/25/25 (Work Order WO-00230680, Case 6354938): re-welded outriggers, I-beam heat treatment, cross member re-welding, jack reinforcement. Same components failed after only 3,400 miles with worse damage, proving systemic defect. Manufacturer Inspection: Lippert inspected/documented failures per WO-00230680. Owner expressed concerns about re-welding compromised components; technician assured repairs would hold. Assurances proved false. Grand Design notified concurrent with this complaint. Warning Symptoms: No electronic warnings. Physical symptoms from purchase (8/24): continuous sawdust at floor/wall junctions, slide trim detachment with violent popping (mid-25), door opening (7/25), roof seal separation (9/25), outrigger failures (11/25, 1/26), window detachment (1/20/26). I am experiencing symptoms, consistent with excessive frame movement and structural failure in my 42 foot fifth wheel toy hauler RV. We have been monitoring this for the time we have owned it just over six weeks and have noticed an increase and symptoms that research shows indicate there is a problem.. we are seeking professional inspection and guidance to establish the scope of it and hopefully catching it at the earlier side in order to hopefully deal with the issue easier than after a total failure. The symptoms include 1- the interior upper section horizontal lag bolts that hold the camper walls to the frame all had come loose completely. There were four on one side and five on the other. 2- the underside curved fillon panel by the pin box is ripple and curved, and shows movement 3- the left and right sides of the camper towards the front are becoming out of square with the rest of the camper and the seals around the doors are showing larger gaps and looking more out of square 4- interior doors and exterior doors of the camper are all experiencing difficulty latching and are becoming out of square to the original structure 5- there is a changing of the distance, measurements both in height, and in relation to the lower frame members from the pin box where the camper tows from. And what appears to be some twisting out of square. 6- front panel door is buckling in the center and will no longer close geometry of the opening has been compromised It is clear that we are experiencing frame structural failure between the area where the camper toast from in relation to the main frame of the camper

Overview: This complaint is being submitted in response to alarming and persistent structural failures experienced in our 2023 Grand Design Momentum fifth wheel RV, purchased new in January 2023 from Lazydays RV in Tampa, FL. Despite receiving a factory service bulletin (TSB) and subsequent repairs under warranty, our unit has continued to exhibit excessive frame flex, wall and floor deformation, compromised slide operations, and related structural issues. The failures not only impact the unit’s functionality and safety but raise concerns about a broader systemic issue with the frame design and manufacturing integrity of Grand Design RVs. Our documented repair history and recurring defects suggest these problems stem from substandard frame construction and flex-related design flaws, rather than isolated workmanship errors. Final Remarks: We are not the only owners reporting these failures. Online forums and recent class action filings against Grand Design point to a concerning trend of recurring frame failures that the company appears unwilling or unable to resolve comprehensively. As consumers, we have exhausted all reasonable efforts to seek a resolution through the manufacturer and authorized third-party repair channels. It is our belief that these ongoing frame flex problems represent a safety hazard and require urgent federal oversight and regulatory action to ensure no further units are sold with such defects. Excessive Frame Flex/Failure& Structure I am reporting multiple serious structural and safety issues with my Grand Design RV that appear consistent with excessive frame flex and failure, as outlined in NHTSA Investigation PE24029. These include: Significant movement of front bedroom cabinets during travel, indicating internal structural instability of the walls. Large gaps in both the interior and rear toy hauler doors, which compromise insulation and safety concerns. Cracked and misaligned front entry door, even after manufacturer replacement. Generator compartment door fails to lock properly, likely due to excessive frame flex/frame misalignment. Screws popping out of the front cap and a visible crack in the front cap corner. Bedroom slide failure due to internal twisting. Main slide floor detaching from the bottom. Persistent latching issues with the main entry door, even when the RV is perfectly level. These issues not only affect the usability of the RV but also pose serious safety risks while in transit. The structural instability could lead to doors opening unexpectedly, slideouts extending, or components detaching on the road—endangering both occupants and other drivers. I urge the NHTSA to include this case in its ongoing investigation and to consider a recall or mandatory corrective action for affected Grand Design RVs.

Moisture has reached electrical wiring, creating a serious fire hazard and contributing to unsafe living conditions. Essential components—including the furnace, refrigerator, and water heater—have proven unreliable or unusable throughout the ownership period. Mold growth has appeared due to the persistent damp environment. This has caused health issues, including respiratory difficulties, headaches, brain fog, and fatigue, with heightened risk due to a pre-existing asthma condition. Structural issues include misaligned exterior doors that fail to seal properly and loud creaking/popping noises during hitching, suggesting possible frame or chassis integrity problems. Equipment failures include a non-functional center awning, persistent sewer odor (suggesting a failed ventilation system), and malfunctioning A/C and heating units. Despite multiple inspections and documented findings from Grand Design–approved technicians, the manufacturer has offered only limited, pre-approved repairs that fail to address root causes. These problems severely impact the safety and habitability of the RV, which is used as a full-time residence. The manufacturer has declined a full inspection, replacement, or buyback. No warning lamps appeared, but symptoms began shortly after purchase and have worsened. The RV remains available for inspection. I am writing to formally report a series of serious structural concerns we are experiencing with our Grand Design Momentum 349M fifth wheel/toy hauler, which appear to be related to excessive frame flex/failure or upper deck instability. These issues began toward the end of last year and have progressively worsened, raising significant safety concerns for our family. The following symptoms have been observed: * Bay and Propane Doors Opening During Transit Both the bay door and propane doors on either side of the trailer have opened unexpectedly while towing on the highway, posing a major safety hazard. * Loud Cracking Sounds from Front Driver’s Side Wall We consistently hear loud cracking noises from the front driver’s side wall during towing and hitching, suggesting structural stress or movement. * Exterior Trim Separation The exterior trim pieces repeatedly separate during travel, despite multiple attempts to re-secure them with bolts. * Cabinetry Movement in Front Cap Sleeping Area Most concerning, the cabinetry in the front cap—where our 8-year-old son sleeps—visibly shifts forward and backward during towing and hitching. This movement is both alarming and unacceptable from a safety standpoint. We have documented these issues with photos and video evidence, which are enclosed with this message. The frame of my trailer sustained damage due to flexing from poor design. I was lucky and noticed some loud noises when transitioning weight to the king pin on the truck. A lot of creaking and groaning. Because of all of these noises and what I had read online, I had the trailer inspected. The inspection found the frame moving within the structure when the weight transitions from the stabilizers to the king pin. Additional damage was a crack in the structure that holds the wall to the frame and many bent gussets that are designed to give the structure strength. This design is substandard. I understand the whole thing is designed to work as a whole to provide strength, but there are weak areas in this design. First is the use of lag bolts into a soft wood as a method of connecting the frame to the wall structure. This needs to be into metal or aluminum allowing the use of bolts and a thread locking compound to prevent loosening. Lag bolts into wood on a structure designed to withstand dynamic movement of towing is inadequate. This will always loosen over time transferring the load to other areas of the structure and the damage many are seeing. My trailer has been repaired, but I'm not sure if the new gussets and additional lag bolts will be enough because they are still using wood as a structural component. My trailer is a 2020 and the 5 year warranty will expire in September. I'm not sure where I will be after that when the next repair comes. I don't have a lot of pictures because I was out of town when they did the inspection. You can see the break in the wall support showing that the wall was moving after is separated from the frame. The pictures show how this bent the gussets that are designed to give the structure support. Like I said, I saw this problem online and asked for in inspection before I had real problems. If I had waited, the damage would've been much worse.

We took possession of our new 2021 Grand Design 381M fifth-wheel travel trailer in April 2021. During 2021 and 2022, the trailer saw minimal road use. However, during our travels, we observed significant movement within the trailer, and on several occasions, the cargo bay doors opened while in transit. In August, we contacted Grand Design due to visible interior damage and abnormal movement. They arranged to pick up the trailer and transport it to their facility for inspection and repair. Grand Design confirmed that the trailer had suffered a frame failure. They reportedly completed the necessary repairs and returned the trailer to us. Unfortunately, not all issues were resolved. In May 2023, the trailer was returned to the facility for additional repairs. Afterward, it was returned to us once again. In August 2024, signs of frame failure reappeared. We contacted Grand Design, and a mobile technician was dispatched to inspect the trailer. The technician confirmed another instance of frame failure. Due to seasonal considerations, we arranged for the trailer to be transported back to Grand Design in March 2025. Repairs were made, and the trailer was returned later that month. We remain deeply concerned about the adequacy and durability of the repairs, and whether the trailer is truly roadworthy and safe. Despite multiple requests, Grand Design has not provided any photos of the frame damage or documentation of the repairs performed. This lack of transparency is especially troubling given the recurring nature of the issue and the broader concerns surrounding frame integrity across multiple Grand Design models. We are left with the impression that the structural integrity of our trailer—and potentially others—has been compromised. We believe this poses a serious safety risk for anyone traveling on U.S. roadways.

Excessive frame flexing/failure in the upper deck of our 5th wheel.discovered damage is 1. Sawdust on furniture in the bedroom and by entry door from living area to the garage at intersection of wall and floor. 2. Furniture rub marks on wall in bedroom from upper cabinets with driver side having bowed out base or molding where it sits on window valance. 3. Separation of night stands from wall in bedroom on both sides and a curved wall in front. 4. Squeaky floor in bedroom on drivers side between bed and closet 5. Wrinkles and separation from steps and wall in the upper deck 6. Wrinkles around frame of hallway window in upper deck 7. Exterior of RV underneath the nose along where pin box is located there is separation with screws coming loose/out. The outside cap moldings loose and flapping in the breeze while going down the road 8. Lag bolts in the front section of 5th wheel that hold the wall to the frame some were missing, some coming loose, and all were undersized. These issues can contribute to further frame cracking and king pin failure that may result in significant property damage or even death, putting our family and others on our highways at risk. Grand Design sent a service repair technician (SRT) to inspect. During inspection a crack in the frame was found and told that welding would be needed. Appointment made at authorized repair facility and now the needed repair is being denied due to the pin box movement is at their minimum tolerance, yet the frame failure still exists causing a safety concern. Grand Design is aware of frame failure in several models and has yet to issue a recall of the structural defects caused by under sizing the frames and using the wrong lag bolts, and denying the repairs that are covered under their extended 5 year frame warranty.
