Slide out on RV repeatedly failed to fully extend and retract. Was told by RV repair shop that structural failure was the cause. The problem was discovered and confirmed by a dealer service center. As of 5-27-2026, it has not been inspected by the manufacturer. The structural failure could have caused the slide out to unexpectedly extend while in transit. The structural failure could also cause a catastrophic event while in transit. There were no noticeable symptoms or warning signs of this condition except for the multiple slide out problems.

2023 RV unit experienced front cap cracking through complete cap. Grand Design stated it was a paint issue and would not warranty the damage. 2025 RV unit experienced exact same front cap cracking throughout the cap, side corners of cap and front side seam separation of RV. Interior seam and trim separation greater than reasonable and customary for an RV of this age and quality build. Repair shops, experts, RV dealers have stated these are certain symptoms of frame flex and pin box inadequacy. The potential exists for further frame damage and catastrophic failure, especially while in motion. The damage continues to broaden and manifest to greater degrees as time progresses, from front cap to now seam separation and interior wall/trim separation.

The failure had occurred on several occasions. The contact owns a 2019 Grand Design Reflection RV. The contact stated that while pulling the RV, the contact noticed abnormal sounds coming from the hitch location, and the RV displayed excessive up and down movements. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that both the driver's side and passenger's side frames had sustained 3 cracks on each side. The vehicle was serviced at the local RV dealer for the cracks. Additionally, the contact later noticed that the RV outriggers had bent due to a lack of structural strength, the floor of the RV had become warped, and the walls had delaminated due to excessive movement, shuddering, and vibrations inside the RV walls. The contact was concerned that the pin box might fracture while pulling the RV, causing the RV to detach from the vehicle. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. After the trailer collapsed, I’m deeply concerned for my children’s safety and the safety of others. Despite raising these issues, the manufacture Grand Design has deflected responsibility and refused to act, even while under warranty. I kindly request immediate attention and a formal response. I previously brought it to Grand Design in Elkhart, Indiana while it was under warranty, but they declined both inspection and repair. I am really struggling with why RVs are not federally regulated. My trailer poses serious safety risks to my family and others on the road due to the following issues: 1) Frame and Structural Failures: - Trailer collapsed when the frame broke holding the jacks - Welds breaking - Possible I-beam twisted (still need to confirm though) - Screws falling out while driving; risk of tire puncture and skirt/fender detachment - Driver-side outer wall separating from inner wall (gap large enough to fit a hand) - Main doors and cargo doors not staying closed during transport - Floor sinking in kitchen and bunk room - Trim detaching; walls bowing outward - Walls trimmed short five times, due to walls sinking with the floors from weight of roof - Severed screw heads on driver-side slides from excessive frame flex - Bathroom and hallway walls bowing - Sawdust on floor after each move - Master bedroom door damaged from wall bowing 2) Safety Concerns: - Brake breakaway system failed (now repaired) - Propane leaks - Wheel loose and balding due to improperly set crown bolt - Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors missing in bedrooms - Water pipes leaking onto electrical wiring (potential electrocution and/or fire) - Breaker box improperly wired (fire concerns) - Grounding issues affecting AC display and tank readers - Fridge leaking water inside (concerned about black mold) - Front jacks uneven and unstable and other issues too.

This is a Fifth wheel RV a 2021 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS. The Steel "I" Beam frame is developing cracks in the I Beam in the area of the spring hangers for the axles. This is yet to actually case an accident but may very well lead to one if the cracking worsens and the frame fails. Frame failure at highway speed is an obvious concern. This is something I believe is caused by defective parts made by LCI (Lippert) Corp. and used by Grand Design. This frame failure is not uncommon and based on my continuing research is happening on hundreds if not thousands of these RV's. Raising awareness and requiring Grand Design to recall and repair / replace these defective frames is the ultimate goal. Please zoom in on the pictures to see one of the cracks in the frame.

EXCESSIVE FRAME FLEX / FAILURE: Symptoms include: Bowing of walls; Trim coming loose; Cracks in fiberglass wall by slide (occurred a 2nd time after side wall repaired by factory) ; crack in interior wall; crack in roof; Main door opening during transport; Sawdust repeatedly appearing in cabinets; Failure of the attachment point between the frame and walls 2. STRUCTURAL ISSUES: Slide repaired twice at the factory and currently under warranty repair by dealership for a 3rd instance 3. Repairs done at factory in IN documents issues with both Grand Design and dealership acknowledging the failures were covered by warranty. 4. We purchased our 2022 Grand Design Reflection in January 2022 and were told it is good for full-time living since that is what we do. We have had issues with the slides, roof and other items list below: 3/11/2022 - Warranty Items: Driver side large slide won’t go in all the way and driver side front slide jumped a tooth. 6/9/2022 - Warranty Items: Bedroom slide (driver side front) mechanism needs to be completely rebuilt. Large slide (kitchen) has a bent bracket. 11/23/2022 - Warranty Items: Bedroom slide seized up (replaced slide system). Roof staples and screws poking through (resolved). 2/6/2023 - Non Warranty: Fridge shock cord snapped and fridge fell forward. Purchased new shock cord and installed. 8/9/2023 - Non Warranty: Fridge not working, bad board. Warranty passed and extended warranty said they would not pay due to the fridge fell forward in the past. Gerster paid to replace the fridge. Warranty Items: Spare tire coming loose after every travel. Shop replaced the wench. 6/6/2024 - Warranty Items: Slide on passenger side not sliding correctly. Room track is ground down causing gears to slip. Shop replaced the assembly. 7/6/2024 - Warranty Items: Fridge randomly stops working, needs replacement. Extended warranty covered all but $150 deductible. 6/6/2025 - Warranty Items: roof staples and screes poking through (roof replaced). Driver side large slide pin bent (replaced). Tech found cracks in the fiberglass above the slide at the rear. The cracks are on the inside in the same area (Submitted a claim to Grand Design. Waiting). 6/27/2025 - Pulled into campground and tried opening the window by the dining table. It is stuck. Had to push and hold it closed and then the release lever worked. Randomly throughout our travels, we stop at different places and notice pieces of trim/wood on the floors. Two kitchen drawers and one dresser drawer open during travel so had to install new drawer slide hardware. I'm having trouble attaching details.

The upper right front side of the fifth wheel trailer is separating from the trailer frame in the pin box area. The structure of the trailer seems to not be properly connected to the frame or there is flex in the frame that is causing the structure to detach. Recently after having it inspected by a dealer, bolts and welds in the structure were broken and stripped resulting in the frame not being properly attached to the structure. The unit was taken to a dealer and repairs were made at the owner's expense. Broken and stripped out bolts were replaced/repaired and broken welds were also fixed. Grand Design has released a Technical Service Bulletin that covers fifth wheel models Solitude and Momentum that have this same issues but that Technical Service Bulletin does not cover Reflection models. The same issue that is plaguing the Solitude and Momentum models is affecting the Reflection model, but is not included to be repaired under the Technical Service Bulletin.

Crack in side wall . This Crack was already fixed by the Grand Design once . A year later I looked at wall and Crack is back . This is one of many issues regarding this rig . Most of which I fixed myself . 1st issue the door was improperly installed . It would open going down the road . I fixed it by reinstalling door . 2nd issue main floor of rv has hump in floor , north south , using Lazer the hump was 1/2 " higher in the center of rv . This hump interfered with main slide coming in and out . Floor of slide was wearing away because all the weight of side was riding on center of slide . This issue was "fixed " at the factory . Now the main slide has has broken away from the floor on the left side . I fixed this issue .

1. DETACHED REAR WALL The interior screws on the back wall tore a horizontal hole (approx 1/2 inch), and interior cabinetry joints are pulling apart. I looked outside to see if there were any signs that were indicative of rear wall separation. The Reflection 150 has an underbelly covering, so mostly the structure/frame is not readily viewable. However, investigating outside I found the black skirt wrinkled/buckled on the rear/drivers side. Upon googling, this is apparent indication of rear wall brackets broken/rear wall detached. 2. iFAME CRACKS ABOVE AXLES While investigating, I found severe iFrame cracks on both drivers side and passenger side. I contacted Grand Design who referred me to Lippert, who suggested we use a Lippert agent. 2 Florida local agents declined to get involved, so i returned to the dealer where i purchased the RV - 500 miles away in Georgia, after an email & phone consult. After 5 weeks, they said they would rather not do the job, and after 2 weeks prompting, Lippert agreed to schedule a 'courtesy inspection' - a month out. The dealer that inspected the RV stated that they thought the floor is subsiding & they think it is related to frame issues, but could not be sure without a more thorough inspection (but would need to remove under belly). 3. BROKEN LEAF SPRING In April 2023 we replaced all the leaf springs when we had one fail on the road.

We purchased the coach fall 2022. First major trip was in summer 2023. The main slide out failed (stopped working halfway out and would not extend or retract) the second night of camping. There was not a local repair facility available. A mobile repair person was able to get the slide out retracted. He informed us there was only one screw holding the main slide out frame in place. We wrapped a ratchet strap around the coach to hold the slide out in so we could at least continue our trip. A remote repairman at out next stop reported this is a common occurrence on this coach and it would need to be completely rebuilt. We noted that during transport there was sawdust on the cabinets and floors which we have been informed is evidence of excessive frame flexing. We took the coach back to the dealer from which we purchased the unit. The slide out had to be completely rebuilt (new rails, new slide blocks, new motors). We have little confidence that the slide out will not fail again. We noted that the rear tires were wearing at a rate of more than 4 times faster than the front tires. The excessive wear was accompanied with concern that we would blow a tire on the road and cause an accident and/or injury. A Lippert representative was consulted who advised that the front axle was defective and had to be replaced. Our extended warranty did not cover the cost of the axle. The next major trip was in summer 2024. The main slide out failed again. A repairman noted that the motors and rails needed to be replaced again and that the frame was at the limit of being within specs and may have contributed to the problem. During that repair the repairman noted cracking in the roof seams at the major junction at the front of the camper and around AC units and vents. Each of those areas had been resealed just 5 months earlier. We were informed that this was also evidence of excessive frame flexing. The repair facility diagnostician reported that the roof needed to be scraped and resealed.

I purchased a 2021 Grand Design Reflection 28BH fifth wheel in December 2024. Within the first year, I faced multiple warranty issues, including a $5,000 slide-out repair I had to cover out of pocket. Last summer, Grand Design’s CEO, Don Clark, stated in an email that the frame warranty had been extended to five years. However, my RV soon developed serious structural issues. The pin box and surrounding areas creaked and popped when hitching and unhitching. Stress cracks formed on the fiberglass front cap and above the main slide-out. The upper deck floor became spongy and creaky. The shower made excessive noise when walking near it. Cabinet doors in the bedroom opened while driving, and lag screws in the upper deck stripped out of the wall. Concerned for my safety, I took my RV to Busted Knuckle RV & Trailer Repair, a certified repair center, and filed a warranty claim with Grand Design. Their inspection revealed severe damage, including missing and stripped lag screws, a broken pin box, failing sill plates, broken floor supports, and multiple cracked or missing welds. The repair shop filed a claim, expecting coverage under the five-year frame warranty. To my disappointment, Grand Design denied the claim, stating the issues were “within spec.” They only covered six hours of labor for the inspection and refused repairs. Grand Design issued TSB 24-001 for Solitude and Momentum models but won’t acknowledge the same defects in Reflection models. With my RV unsafe to tow, I had no choice but to pay $5,400 out of pocket for partial repairs. Completing the remaining work is estimated at over $17,000. Despite their claimed five-year frame warranty, Grand Design refuses to cover these failures. Others face similar denials, making this a pattern of neglect. I am extremely disappointed in Grand Design’s failure to honor its commitments. I urge them to take responsibility, stand behind their product, and do the right thing.

While towing this 5th wheel camper we observed vertical motion between the truck and camper body. We had a mobile service technician expose the front frame and inspect, he found 3 frame cracks. We have an appointment with Grand Design on June 9, 2025 for their inspection & repair.
