2008 Kawasaki KLR650 Campaign 07V244000 7 Jun 2007

STRUCTURE:MOTORCYCLE:KICKSTAND/CENTER STAND

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE SPRING RETAINING PIN ON THE FRAME MAY NOT HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY WELDED IN PLACE AND COULD FALL OUT, ALLOWING THE SIDESTAND TO DROP INTO THE "PARKING" POSITION.

Risk: IF THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, A CRASH COULD OCCUR.

Remedy: KAWASAKI WILL REPURCHASE THESE MOTORCYCLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 1, 2007. ALL DEALERS/OWNERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED.

On certain motorcycles, the main wiring harness can chafe against the frame, causing the engine to stop running. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will reinforce and reroute the main wiring harness.

On certain motorcycles, the muffler mount bolts could loosen due to heat expansion of the exhaust pipe and vibration. Should the bolts loosen completely, the muffler could separate from the motorcycle, which could result in a vehicle crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will remove the paint from the muffler mount tabs and replace the mount bolts, nuts, washers and gasket.
