On certain vehicles, the bearing surfaces of the extended lube universal joint that attaches the inter-axle driveline to the drive axle may become prematurely worn due to breakdown of the lubrification and/or excessive heat. Prematurely worn bearing surfaces may result in the u-joint becoming loose and/or binding. If undetected, the condition may result in universal joint failure, allowing the inter-axle driveline to detach from the axle, which may cause the vehicle to become disabled in the roadway. Lost propulsion, in conjunction with traffic, road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. In addition a driveline component separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the interaxle driveline universal joint.

Brakes

On certain vehicles equipped with the AG400L suspension and air disc brakes, a caliper could be installed on the wrong side of the drive axle. This could cause interference with the suspension bracket and U-bolts as the outermost brake pads wear and the floating caliper moves inboard. As this interference gets larger, it prohibits the movement of the floating caliper, subsequently reducing the outer pad's pressure on the disc which can eventually lead to reduced braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace one drive axle brake caliper.

Engine

On certain vehicles, the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) oil seal installed on the output shaft of the valve actuator may delaminate, possibly allowing engine oil to leak from the EGR valve onto exhaust components. Engine oil leaking onto hot exhaust components, such as when the engine is under significant load, may create the possibility of a fire which can result in personal injury or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the EGR valve.

Electrical

On certain vehicles, one of the harness spade terminal connections to the chassis load center may become completely unseated. An unseated connection may result in a power loss to a portion of the vehicle's exterior lighting, potentially inhibiting the visibility of the operator and/or detection of the vehicle in certain conditions, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the harness and, if necessary, re-seat the female connectors on the male spade terminals.

Steering

On certain trucks, the weld around the steering shaft tube, which joins the splined tube to the non-splined intermediate tube, may be mislocated. An improperly located weld bead may allow the splined tube and non-splined tube to rotate relative one another during a low speed, high torque turn, resulting in a possible separation of the tubes. This could cause a loss of steering control which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering shaft.
