Transport Canada runs its own recall programme. Its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones, so a Canadian owner reading a US-only list is reading about a different car than the one on their driveway.

Powertrain

Issue: On certain motorcycles, a bellow gasket in the clutch slave cylinder can be damaged. If this happens, the clutch may not disengage when the clutch lever is pulled in. This can cause the motorcycle to continue moving forward when you try to stop. It can also cause the motorcycle to move if you start it when the transmission is not in neutral (N). Safety Risk: A clutch that does not disengage could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. A motorcycle that moves suddenly when you try to start or stop it can create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to inspect and replace the clutch slave cylinder.

Fuel System

On certain motorcycles, during operation or while sitting still, it is possible that fuel can seep or leak out of the fuel filler cap area of the fuel tank. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel tank filler neck insert with one that has an improved seal along with a new seal for the fuel level sensor. Note: In the interim, owners are advised to stop riding their motorcycle until the defect has been repaired. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2017-219.

2014 KTM 690 Duke Recall 2017084 15 Feb 2017 359 units in Canada

Brakes

On certain motorcycles, an electrical connection can be created via the brake line between the anti-lock brake (ABS) modulator and vehicle ground. If the wiring harness is frayed and contacts the ABS modulator, there is a potential for the brake line to conduct electricity, causing overheating and ultimately melting the brake line. This can result in failure of the brake system circuit, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the wiring harness and re-position the wiring harness for the engine control unit. Additionally, dealers will add and attach a ground cable to the ABS modulator and mount it to the motorcycle’s frame. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2016-610.
