Transport Canada runs its own recall programme. Its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones, so a Canadian owner reading a US-only list is reading about a different car than the one on their driveway.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the immobilizer system may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: This small error does not affect safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. Porsche has made changes to ensure that all new vehicles meet Canadian regulations.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Porsche will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the driver assistance system control unit software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the seat belt reminder chime may not sound to alert you that the front passenger seat belt isn't buckled. Canadian regulations require both a seat belt reminder sound and visual tell-tale when you switch the vehicle on, and the passenger isn't wearing their seat belt. Safety Risk: A seat belt warning that doesn't work correctly may not remind you to ensure that your passenger is buckled. Not wearing a seat belt can increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Porsche will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the instrument cluster software.
Issue: On certain cars, the hazard warning lights may not turn on when they are switched on. Specifically, if a driver is in the car with the seat belt unbuckled and the ignition off, after 90 seconds, if an attempt is made to turn on the hazard lights, they may not turn on. Safety Risk: Hazard lights that do not turn on could make the vehicle less visible and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Porsche will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to update the control unit software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the airbag electronic control unit could be damaged by an electrical fault. This could cause the airbag system not to work properly in a crash. It could also result in a deployment of the airbags and/or seat belt pretensioners without a crash. Safety Risk: Airbags that do not work properly in a crash could create an increased risk of injury. Airbags or seat belt pretensioners that deploy without a crash could create a risk of injury and also increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the airbag control module. If an electrical fault is detected, the airbag control module will be replaced.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the nut that connects the driveshaft to the wheel hub may not be tightened correctly. Over time, the nut could loosen and may result in the driveshaft disconnecting. This could cause a loss of power to the drive wheels. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied, this could allow the car to roll away. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the drive wheels or sudden, unexpected movement of the car could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Porsche will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the nut with a new one and ensure it is tightened correctly.
Certain vehicles may have been equipped with a front passenger airbag that does not meet specifications. This could cause the front passenger airbag to fail to deploy properly in the event of a crash that warrants deployment of the passenger frontal airbag, which could increase the risk of injury to the occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace front passenger airbag module.
On certain vehicles and replacement engines, the fastening screws for the fuel collection pipes could shear off due to stress corrosion cracking. If this occurs, fuel could leak into the engine compartment which, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the fastening screws of each of the collection pipes with new and improved screws.
On certain vehicles the front hood lock may have been improperly manufactured. The front hood lock upper components, on which the catch bar are riveted to the mounting plate, were not produced according to specifications. This could result in the hood opening unexpectedly while the vehicle is being driven. This could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the upper part of the lock on the front hood.
On certain vehicles, a defective wiring harness in the passenger seat may result in the deactivation of the passenger side frontal and knee airbags, illuminating the airbag warning lamp. Failure of the passenger airbags to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger seat in affected vehicles.
On certain vehicles, exhaust tailpipes can fracture and detach from mufflers. A tailpipe separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace both muffler assemblies.
On certain vehicles, an inadequate weld on the exhaust system could allow the tailpipe to detach while the vehicle is in motion, this could startle the driver and/or endanger other road users. Correction: Dealers will replace the tailpipe.
On certain vehicles, a crack in the electric roof locking motor's helical gear can result in the catch lever no longer holding the roof firmly to the windscreen frame. If both roof locking motors fail, the softtop could open while the car is in motion. Correction: Dealers will replace both roof locking motors. The new electric motors have a stronger gear mechanism, which locks the roof into the closed position. Also, a new sensor system within the motor assembly provides an improved control signal to the instrument cluster if the roof is not properly closed when the driver drives off.
On certain vehicles, the front seat backs may tilt towards the rear during a rear end collision. If this were to happen, seat occupants could be injured. Correction: Dealer will replace both front seats.
On certain vehicles, incorrect programming of the electronic logic unit can cause an incorrect reading of the fuel level and range of remaining fuel available in the fuel tank. The display will indicate a level of fuel that is higher than is actually available and therefore, in some circumstances, the vehicle may run out of fuel causing a loss of power and the potential for a vehicle crash. Correction: The software in the instrument cluster will be updated so that the fuel level and the range of remaining fuel are determined and displayed correctly.
