2007 Yamaha FJR1300 Campaign 11V338000 27 Jun 2011

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

YAMAHA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006-2009 FJR1300 MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED FROM FEBRUARY 2006, THROUGH MARCH 2009. THE GROUND JOINT CONNECTOR OF THE WIRE HARNESS COULD OVERHEAT AND BECOME DEFORMED, POSSIBLY CAUSING AN INTERMITTENT GROUND WIRE CONNECTION. IF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS NOT PROPERLY GROUNDED, THE IGNITION SYSTEM AND/OR OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS COULD MALFUNCTION, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL.

Risk: IF THE MOTORCYCLE STALLS WHILE BEING RIDDEN, THERE COULD BE A CRASH RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: YAMAHA DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL WIRE SUB-LEAD OR, IF THE GROUND JOINT CONNECTOR HAS ALREADY BEEN DAMAGED FROM OVERHEATING, DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW MAIN WIRE HARNESS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 8, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926.

2016 Yamaha FJR1300 Recall 2021675 5 Nov 2021 1,046 units in Canada

Engine

Issue: On certain motorcycles, a software problem may limit the engine speed in first gear. This could cause the motorcycle not to accelerate as expected when you apply the throttle. Note: This recall affects motorcycles repaired under recall 2020-571. Safety Risk: A sudden lack of acceleration could surprise the rider, and in certain situations, could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Yamaha will contact owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to update the engine control unit (ECU) software. Yamaha recommends that you should not use your motorcycle until this updated is completed.

2011 Yamaha FJR1300 Recall 2011246 4 Jul 2011 60 units in Canada

Brakes

On certain motorcycles, the front brake switch may not function as intended, which could prevent brake light illumination when the front brake lever is applied. Failure of the brake lamp to illuminate when the brakes are applied may result in the following road users being unaware of the driver's intentions, increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the front brake switch.

2007 Yamaha FJR1300 Recall 2011247 4 Jul 2011 901 units in Canada

Electrical

On certain motorcycles, a ground joint connector of the wire harness could overheat, become deformed, and cause an intermittent ground wire connection. If the electrical system is not properly grounded, the ignition system and/or other electrical components could malfunction, which could cause the engine to stall. Engine stalling would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install an additional wire sub-lead; however, if the ground joint connector has already been damaged from overheating, the main wire harness will be replaced.

2007 Yamaha FJR1300 Recall 2009035 3 Feb 2009 770 units in Canada

Electrical

On certain motorcycles, the main ignition switch's wire connection could overheat, due to electrical resistance, and become hot enough to melt the solder connecting the wire to the main switch. As a result, the wire could come off the switch, preventing the electrical system from functioning. Should this occur while the motorcycle is being ridden, the engine could stall and be impossible to restart. A loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the ignition switch with an updated version.

2003 Yamaha FJR1300 Recall 2006242 29 Sep 2006 3,853 units in Canada

Engine

On certain motorcycles, an improperly designed Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) could cause an intermittently unstable idle when the motorcycle is stopped or during low-speed operation. If the engine stalls after the operator disengages the clutch in a low gear while riding, the rear tire might slip momentarily if the operator abruptly re-engages the clutch. This could result in a crash with injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the TPS.

2003 Yamaha FJR1300 Recall 2004080 3 Mar 2004 761 units in Canada

Accessories

The accessory FJR13 saddlebags cover the original units rear reflectors and must therefore have a reflector installed on each saddlebag lid. The saddlebag kit is supplied with red reflectors that your dealer is required to install during the Pre-delivery service. However, certain motorcycles have been released without having the reflectors installed. This situation results in the motorcycle not being in compliance with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and the reduced conspicuity could result in an accident causing injury or death. Correction: Dealer will install saddlebag reflectors.
