Service Bulletin SI B11 09 17 Same issue with my car, 2017 BMW 750i xDrive. Drivetrain malfunction issues identical to SB noted. My car has a manufactured date 07/2016, one month after SB dates covered, yet same part numbers are used in this month as well. Not fair that other vehicle owners with same part numbers get this covered, as I have to pay over $3k for repair, to then wait IF a SB gets releases, then have to chase BMW file a RP claim. Wastegate issues across all G11 models!

2018 BMW 750I at 87,000 miles Dallas, TX

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2018 BMW 750I. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine overheated with the temperature gauge indicating that the engine was hot(H) with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that thermostat, thermostat sensor, and the water pump needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure worsened, and additional repairs were performed but the failure persisted. The contact was then informed by a mechanic that the engine oil cooler line was defective which had caused oil to leak into the engine coolant. The mechanic linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V377000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer then referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

The contact stated that an oil change had been performed several days before the failure. The contact topped off the oil. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was advised to complete an oil consumption test for 1,000 miles and then return to the dealer with the vehicle. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with a coolant leak into the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed about a class action lawsuit for coolant leaking into the engine. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. There are two grill shutter actuators. One for the upper and one for the lower. Different part numbers. NHTSA issued a TSB for N63R in 2019: MC-10160279-9999 (G12 (N63R)/G30 (B58M) RADIATOR GRILL UPPER AND LOWER ACTIVE AIR FLAPS: LIMITED WARRANTY EXTENSION TO 10 YEARS/120,000 MILES). My vehicle is a N62R and there are hundreds perhaps thousands of reports of the IDENTICAL part numbers from BROSE Manufacturing (USA / Germany) failing. For example, my upper failed in APR 2023 after a repair I paid for in SEP 2022 with a P/N manufactured in 2021. Then, the lower actuator failed which has a manufacture date of 2017 (so it is the OEM part). Though the upper actuator is coded to remain open on fault, the lower is for some reason coded to remain closed on fault. If the fault codes are incorrectly interpreted by the [XXX] when the vehicle is in operation, then the engine could quickly overheat and lead to major issues for the occupants, but likely result in thousands of dollars of engine repairs. I urge you to reconsider the TSB and issue a recall/warranty extension for all BMW G11/12/30 and similar (in fact, this part is used on all series with upper and lower shutters: 5, 7 and X from 2015.) The main problem I am having is that there ARE NO PARTS IN STOCK at BMW worldwide. [XXX] has not responded. Thank you. “INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES TO THE GROCERY STORE, PARKED, WE SHOPPED, 30 MINUTES LATER, DROVE BACK HOME, AGAIN ABOUT 10 MINUTES. BACKED THE VEHICLE INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. GROCERIES WERE UNLOADED WHILE MY GIRLFRIEND WAS TRYING TO GET MY 18 MONTH DAUGHTER OUT OF THE CAR SEAT. SHE DID, CAME INSIDE AND APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES LATER A NEIGHBOR SLAMMED ON MY DOOR SAYING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SMOKING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I WENT OUTSIDE, TRIED TO RELIEVE THE ISSUE WITH AN EXTINGUISHER, THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE SITUATION. THE SMOKE INCREASED, I WAS AFRAID TO POP THE HOOD DUE TO RISK OF OXYGEN EXPOSURE TO WHAT I ASSUMED WAS IN ACTIVE FIRE. 911 WAS CALLED, MINUTES LATER THE ENTIRE COMPARTMENT WAS FULLY ENGULFED WITH FLAMES. FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE.

THERE IS WHITE SMOKE THAT IS COMING OUT OF THE BACK PIPES OF THE CAR. THE CAR IS BURNING THROUGH OIL. I AM PUTTING A QUART IN EVERY 2 -3 WEEKS. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT IT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE 2009 MODEL. THE 2009 750I HAS BEEN RECALLED TO FIX THE ENGINE PROBLEM AND I HAVE A 2012 MODEL. THE SMOKE COMES OUT WHEN I AM DRIVING NOT WHEN IT IS STATIONARY ON THE CITY STREET, HIGHWAY OR WHEREVER. I DON'T FEEL SAFE. I AM GOING TO START DRIVING MORE DISTANCE AND I DON'T WANT TO RUN OUT OF OIL AND CAUSE MORE DAMAGE TO MY CAR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES SURROUNDING THE CAR. I AM NOT A MECHANIC. BUT, I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THIS CAR WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WHEN I BOUGHT IT.
