Recalls on the 2014 Buick Verano
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 2025615308 units in Canada
Airbag
Issue: On certain vehicles, the inflator for the side curtain airbag could rupture at the inflator weld joint and cause the side curtain airbag to inflate without a crash. Note: This is an expansion of Transport Canada recall nos. 2023-520 and 2023-693. Certain vehicles that were repaired under those recalls, also require this repair. Safety Risk: A side curtain airbag that inflates without a crash could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the left and/or right-side curtain airbag(s).

Recall 201448012,782 units in Canada
Electrical
Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114 - Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. An intermittent ground electrical connection could cause the vehicle to continue to run for a limited time period after the ignition is turned off if the brake lamps, park lamps or trunk lamp are on. This would also cause delayed arming of the immobilization system, contrary to the requirements of the standard. Correction: A production change has been undertaken to remedy this technical non-compliance condition. No corrective recall action is required as the technical non-compliance conditions are deemed to be non-safety related.
Recall 201427417,144 units in Canada
Accessories
On certain vehicles, insulation on the engine block heater power cord may become damaged if the cord is handled during very cold days (temperatures below -25C). This could create an electrical shock hazard, which could result in personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the block heater cord.
Recall 201405421 units in Canada
Powertrain
Certain vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 102 - Transmission Control Functions and CMVSS 114 - Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. The shift cable adjuster may have been damaged at time of assembly and could disengage, causing the transmission to remain in a gear position different from the one indicated in the instrument panel. If the shift cable were to disengage while driving, upon stopping the vehicle, a driver could move the transmission range selector lever to the PARK position and remove the key, without the transmission being in PARK. If the parking brake is not set, the vehicle could roll, potentially resulting in a crash increasing the risk of injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect and install a revised adjuster and clip if necessary.
Reports where the owner recorded a crash, a fire, an injury or a death.

Newly purchased delivery of 2014 Buick Verano. from Auto Deal Makers in Chantilly, Va. Not even 5 miles driven, car was hesitant at 20mph, felt like it was going to stall out at 40mph, my left upper lip started tingling, my kids felt sick as we all experienced a heavy taste & smell of burnt oil in the cabin of the car. Two hours later my kids & I still could not get the taste of burnt oil off our tongues and back of our throats even after eating. Contacted GM & Chevy although they are fully aware of the defect they refuse to accept responsibility. The tingling has now reached my chin as though my children and I have been affected by some form of toxic chemical poisoning. This was the first time I ever drove my newly purchased vehicle, and have been poisoned myself & my kids by the toxic fumes the car is emitting. Total recalls should be done, and full compensation to consumers. GM & Chevy are fully aware of the defects and should be held responsible and accountable for the dangerously hazardous fumes that they are knowingly allowing unsuspecting consumers to become victims of their neglect and found guilty of all laws created to protect consumers, and the environment for these defective vehicles and found guilty pursuant to any and all Lemon Laws pertaining to aforementioned toxic chemical exposure. All of these makes/models that have similar issues should be recalled immediately for the safety and health of the consumers, and the environment.

I have included here copies of correspondence between myself and General Motors relating to an issue with my 2014 Buick Verano. As stated in the emails, after some online research, I found that there was actually a class action lawsuit pending in the court with regard to the issue I was having. I did reach out to the attorneys office handling the class action suit and received an auto-reply that they received my message, but nothing further. What I find very disturbing is that in one google search, I found multiple articles and forums as well as two class action lawsuits that address the very issue of excessive oil consumption and General Motors has not done anything to address this issue with vehicle owners. At the very least, a TSB should have been issued to make owners aware of this issue so they could address it properly. There continues to be many posts by people still experiencing this problem which is unacceptable. The issue has caused unnecessary wear and tear on my car and many costly repairs. My car continues to have issues that may have been caused by the initial PVC problem.

ENGINE
My 2014 Buick Verano, that I have owned for several years now, is consuming oil at an alarming rate. The problem is that the manufacturer put a PCV valve into the engines intake manifold that gets clogged and produces too much pressure. With the pressure being so high, it forces oil into the air intake breather box and up through the throttle body and gets burnt off. If the oil pressure gets too high, the additional risk is that the rear main seal may get blown. Because of this, I have to continuously check for proper engine oil level, and even while doing that often (weekly), there are times that I find the car needing more than 2 quarts of oil to be put into the engine regardless of how long it has been between oil changes. Additionally, there has never been an oil light or any indicator light showing any trouble at all. GM knows there are problems with these 2.4l engines because they sent letters to some owners of 2012 GMC Terrains with the same problems. As there are still many Buick Veranos and other vehicles on the road sharing the same engine, I believe that GM should still be held responsible for repairing a known problem. I have not taken this to the dealer for this problem, as I have read many other accounts of people being charged diagnosis fees with $5000 plus repair bills for this issue.
