2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV El Dorado Hills, CA

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On February 23, 2026, while driving my 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV home from Folsom Chevrolet following a prior repair visit, the “Service Park Assist System” warning illuminated, first intermittently, then after a few miles, continuously for the remainder of the 11-mile drive home. During the same drive, while reversing with no objects present behind or around the vehicle, the automatic emergency braking system activated and applied the brakes with significant force without cause. The vehicle was returned to Folsom Chevrolet (Repair Order #559378, opened February 23, 2026). Diagnostic code U1126 was found — indicating the left rear short range radar sensor had lost communication on CAN Bus 8. The sensor module was on national backorder, keeping the vehicle out of service for approximately two weeks. The module was replaced and programmed on March 7, 2026. Safety concern: Unexpected activation of automatic emergency braking with no objects present creates a serious collision risk from following traffic. This failure occurred on public roads during normal driving. Additionally, the U1126 CAN bus communication fault is the same vehicle communication architecture implicated in the battery/electrical failure documented in Repair Orders #558923 and #559167, suggesting these failures share a common root cause in the vehicle’s electrical communication network rather than representing isolated component failures.

The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the battery failed to continue charging while driving or while parked. Additionally, the door opened independently, the Automatic Emergency Braking system (AEB) failed, and while the brake pedal was depressed, there was a delay before the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The telematics module has failed on approx. [XXX] and due to a large scale amount of GM vehicles having this same failure the replacement parts are unavailable. My research has found that this module failure has been a problem since at least February 2025 and now in December the parts are still on backorder for each failure. I purchased this car for my [XXX] daughter and now that this module has failed I am unable to track the vehicle and the vehicle's mapping system is useless, along with the ability to locate nearby charging stations. Additionally, the OnStar system is disabled and that is a safety issue. When we took the car into the dealership, they were very accommodating and diagnosed the issue quickly. This was in part due to the fact that my daughter is only [XXX] and cannot be provided a loaner vehicle or rental for age related requirements. I am unable to swap cars with my daughter since I drive a very large truck for work. So, basically we are stuck with a vehicle that has a faulty telematics module for un uncertain amount of time (Dealership expected 6 weeks) all while GM continues to produce new vehicles with the parts it is receiving and not honoring those who have already purchased a vehicle and should have priority to parts under both the warranty itself and the fact that this is a safety related issue. Also, the fact that this has not become a recall or at least a part that needs to be inspected for potential premature failure is unacceptable. GM appears to have zero ability to rectify this in a reasonable amount of time and instead is putting it on the backs of their customers while they continue benefitting from new cars sales with the parts stock that are available. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Since May 2025, my 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV has experienced repeated electronic malfunctions with the central display and instrument cluster. The screens have frozen, flickered, and rebooted multiple times while driving. On one occasion at approximately 75 mph, the entire display and instrument panel shut down and did not return for about two minutes. The vehicle continued to respond to steering, brakes, and propulsion, but I was driving completely blind with no speedometer, warnings, or navigation. I slowed down and exited the highway to give myself space and carefully made it home. This was extremely stressful and left me concerned for my safety and my family’s safety. In another incident while stopped at a traffic light, the system froze while music was playing and the vehicle became unresponsive. It only restarted after I shifted into Park and restarted the car. The “Buckle to Drive” safety feature has also failed twice. This feature was enabled, but the vehicle allowed me to shift into Drive without the seatbelt engaged. In the most recent case, I drove for about five minutes before the reminder appeared. I have video evidence of this failure. In July 2025, the vehicle lost all connectivity (OnStar, GPS, and remote functions). This issue was eventually fixed, but I had to drive for several weeks without these features while waiting for a backordered part. The vehicle has been at the dealer since July 14, 2025. Many internal components have already been replaced, and one part is still on backorder. There were no warning lamps or error messages before the failures occurred. I am not confident that these problems have truly been resolved, because if such issues can happen with an extremely new vehicle, it raises serious concerns about what to expect from the long-term reliability and safety under warranty.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV RIO Rancho, NM

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

First the window on the driver side wouldn't go down. That was fixed at the dealer. Now the GPS system is not working. I am taking it back to the dealer again on Saturday. Tell me why a $500 phone's GPS system always works and a $40,000.00 car can't keep its GPS system working? I'm thinking this car is a lemon. I just took possession of it on 1-18-25. It is a 2025 Equinox EV. Also, in the sun, the dashboard reflects on the window and it appears as if one is looking through a screen. It is very distracting and dangerous.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I purchased this vehicle new. Within weeks started having issues with the OnStar system. Obviously with the module not working, other things began happening. I can't see status of charge. I can't find charging stations when driving. My hands free doesn't work because google is always off line. Can't use OnStar system because it doesn't work. Came out one morning to find my vehicle unlocked and all the windows down. I live in Florida, have never once used the defrost system or set the vehicle temperature above 72. Turned the car on one day and the defrosters magically turned on and the temperature went up to 76 full blast. The the forward braking system started slamming the brakes when I was already stopping. One day it slammed us so hard that my grandchildren screamed because their car seat belts cut into their shoulders. Contacted OnStar numerous times. Contacted dealerships numerous times. After weeks and weeks, I finally have a dealer willing to look at it. I have been provided one fault code by OnStar. There are so many people with issues and research shows the module is and has been on back order for months and months. Vehicle also makes noises like it is trying to lock or unlock whenever I open a door. There were no warnings for any of it. Just began. Safety is at risk because vehicle malfunctions. OnStar confirmed there is an error. Going to dealer finally this week. No warning lamps and issues got bad enough for concern approximately one month ago but were noticed within weeks of purchasing vehicle which was purchased [XXX]. 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV Denver, CO

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I experienced a brake failure this past weekend in my 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV LT while descending a dirt/stone road. The moment we started descending, the ABS system engaged and did not brake the car adequately. In my opinion, the ABS system should not have engaged in this terrain. The ABS, would not shut off for our entire descent, which lasted for about two full minutes. During this time, we could not stop the car and were accelerating out of control. We got going far faster than I was comfortable with, and my passenger & I thought we were going to end up crashing. After about a minute of inability to brake properly or stop, we ended up getting a flat tire. The flat tire, combined with the terrain flattening, eventually helped us come to a complete stop. After stopping, the car was also having software issues (infotainment system resetting), and the infotainment system was very hot to the touch, suggesting an electrical or software malfunction tied to the braking system. It was a very scary situation, but my passenger and I were not injured. This failure left me and my passenger completely out of control of the vehicle, with a high risk of collision, rollover, or serious injury. In my opinion, a braking system that does not stop the vehicle when the pedal is fully applied constitutes a critical safety defect. Chevrolet has been contacted, but the dealer refused to treat this as a warranty safety issue so far. The vehicle remains available for inspection.

NHTSA Safety Complaint (Loss of Emergency Connectivity) Subject: 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV — OnStar/telematics failure disables Emergency Services & Automatic Crash Response; part on national backorder VIN: [XXX] Make/Model/Year: Chevrolet Equinox EV, 2025, RS trim Mileage at first occurrence: 4000 Date problem first occurred: [XXX] Frequency: Continuous (services remain unavailable) Injuries/Crashes: None to date Component(s) affected: Electrical system — telematics/communication (OnStar); emergency calling/SOS; crash notification (ACR). Description of the safety defect: The vehicle’s OnStar/Connected Services display “Services Unavailable.” The dealer diagnosed a failed telematics module. Replacement is on national backorder with no estimated timeframe. While in this condition, Emergency Services and Automatic Crash Response are disabled—the SOS button does not connect, and the vehicle will not automatically contact OnStar after a crash. Parts availability (scope/delay): My dealership and multiple GM/Chevrolet and OnStar owner forums indicate 3+ month waits for the telematics module with no ETA, leaving vehicles without emergency connectivity for extended periods. What has been done so far: Dealer confirmed module failure and opened a parts order; advised no ETA due to national backorder. Manufacturer has not provided an interim fix or loaner vehicle. Issue remains unresolved as of Aug 11, 2025. Why this is a safety concern: Loss of emergency calling and crash notification defeats safety features marketed as critical for post-crash response. Owners cannot rely on the vehicle to summon help after a collision or medical emergency. Requested NHTSA action : Track this failure and parts unavailability, assess scope, and determine whether a safety investigation or recall is warranted. Now, it won’t even start, and the battery was only at 73%. I can’t help but imagine my car stopping in the middle of the road. I would have died. My high-voltage battery isn’t even being recognized by the system. This is a highly safety hazard. If this happens on the highway, I would have been killed. Something is wrong with a less than 3 month old car.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV York, PA

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The vehicle seemingly at random, will engage automatic emergency braking. These events are hard braking events, locking up wheels and engaging ABS for brief moments at 75mph. There is no sensitivity adjustment, forcing the safety features off to ensure I am not rear ended. In my first month of ownership, we have experienced: 1) backing out of my garage in good weather and into my driveway (flat surface, no hills) causing whiplash. 2) inside turning lane of a 2-lane left turns, presumably detecting the outside lane vehicle, stopping in the middle of an intersection instantly. Assumed going 18-20mph. Almost caused accidents behind me. 3)On interstate, going 75 mph in good weather, passing a vehicle estimated to be going 65mph, caused the braking system to engage hard and the tires to squeal from locking up. Vehicle nearly lost control. Software is up to date, last update was mid March 2025

2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV Branchville, NJ

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

After activating the turn signal fully, it will often spring past the neutral/off setting and straight into signaling the opposite direction. Occasionally this is with enough force that the signal will stay on, but it is usually only with force sufficient to tap the other signal and register only 2-3 blinks before stopping. This is a safety issue because it looks like erratic signaling behavior to those outside of the vehicle. When travelling on busy highways at speeds exceeding 60mph erratic signaling of this kind can confuse other drivers and lead to collisions. It can make other drivers think you are driving erratically (like changing lanes only to double back into the lane you came from) or to try to pass you rapidly just to escape a driver that is signaling strangely. This has been confirmed on many Equinox EVs, both '24 and '25 model years. This does not trigger any sort of errors, warnings, chimes or alerts. It simply excessively triggers the turn signals outside of when you would want them actuated. The fix is just to tweak the turn signal resistance to be more like other vehicles. This likely requires a recall to replace the part with a new part that does not yet exist.

- Vehicle showed error message for high voltage battery on 1/3/2025 at less than 5,000 miles. Vehicle was able to drive unrestricted (full speed and acceleration). Vehicle was able to fast charge even though the vehicle was coding for high voltage battery issue. Was informed via Chevy EV that it could be a "glitch" and to continue to drive it, charge it, and see if it would just go away. I did not feel comfortable driving around with a high voltage battery warning and took it to the dealership. Dealership tried to make me drive off lot with it saying it might just be a "glitch" and to call them back if it did not go away. I refused got mgmt involved and was provided a loaner so they could look at my vehicle. - Dealership called me and notified me ,1/6/2025 11:32 AM, that the error was in the thermal management system for the battery. The heat pump that is used to provide thermal mgmt to the battery to ensure safe operating temps had failed. - Safety was put in risk because I park in my driveway which sides up against my house as well as my neighbors house. There is where my charger is also installed. Safety for myself and others was also put at risk. Highway driving increases heat of the battery pack I was told to continue using this vehicle (drive highway daily) which endangers myself in the vehicle and other people around if it caught on fire. - Vehicle was inspected on 1/6 and found to have faulty Thermal system after being told to keep driving on 1/3. - Warning lamp no actual restrictions or information as to what was wrong. GM wanted me to keep driving it.
