When owners complained

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

Recalls on the 2000 Daewoo Lanos

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2004350 4,219 units in Canada

Engine

On certain vehicles, the camshaft position sensor may melt resulting in a burning smell and visible smoke, which may subsequently lead to the melting of the camshaft cover and camshaft position sensor wire harness. This could possibly cause an under hood fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the camshaft position sensor and install an additional fuse.

Recall 2002105 4,370 units in Canada

Airbag

Certain passenger vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of CMVSS no. 201, "occupant protection in interior impact." In the event of a crash in which the air bags do not deploy, there is a possibility of increased head injury to the front seat passenger should contact with the passenger side air bag cover occur. Correction: Dealers will install new energy absorbing air bag mounting brackets.

Recall 2001073 1,472 units in Canada

Electrical

On certain vehicles, the ECM wiring harness which is located in the passenger footwell area may chafe against a caulked body seam due to movement of the passenger's feet and result in a short circuit to ground. There is a possibility that engine driveablity may be affected and/or the engine may stall. Correction: Extra protection will be applied to the wiring harness and an additional tie strap will be installed to reroute the ECM harness away from the body seam.

Recall 2000021 586 units in Canada

Suspension

On certain vehicles, insufficient wheel bolt torque could result in wheel separation and a possible crash without prior warning. Correction: Wheel bolt torque will be increased to 120nm (88lb/ft).

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.
