Powertrain fail , airbag failed to deploy

NHTSA complaint #11694624 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2014 Dodge Avenger Dunn, NC

POWER TRAIN

Driving and car cuts off without warning. Could be going 35 mph could be going 65 mph. Have to shift to N to cut car back on. Sometimes it won't cut back on. I pressed gas after light turned green in a busy intersection and car cut off in middle of intersection. This has happened in more than one occasion and almost caused many accidents. Throws code for crankshaft position sensor. It has been replaced and still not helping. Also replaced throttle body position sensor. This is happening with A LOT of these vehicles. All online forums talk of the same problem. Don't know if it's the computer itself because the check engine light rarely comes in when this happens. Then it throws random codes.

2010 Dodge Avenger Pacifica, CA

POWER TRAIN

The transmission began slipping on Saturday, July 23, 2022 with 120,000 miles on the odometer. The car was driving normally then suddenly went into neutral causing it to slow down and back up traffic until I manually changed to a lower gear. The car was also doing this change to neutral on its own while I was trying to park the car and then when I went back to my car to pull out of the parking space, it took several attempts to engage the gears to move. I limped home with the car and got it parked in my driveway. The transmission fluid reading was normal. The car started doing this shift change to neutral without warning.

2010 Dodge Avenger Tulsa, OK

POWER TRAIN

I was reversing out of a parking spot and when I tried to go forward, the car kept wanting to go in reverse. The shifter then became stuck in park and would not move to another gear. I was in the middle of the road now blocking traffic. The dashboard still showed I was in reverse even though the shift lever was stuck in park. I was forced to keep reversing until I found a safe spot to park. Later I looked up this problem on YouTube and found many videos posted with my same problem with the stuck gear shift. I would definitely say this is a manufacturing defect that needs to be recalled on all versions of the Dodge Avenger car.

2013 Dodge Avenger San Antonio, TX

POWER TRAIN

After backing out of the driveway in Reverse, I attempted to shift the car into Drive. However, the car kept moving backwards. I then shifted it into Park. At that point, I was not able to get the car back out of Park, yet I was able to push it forward and backward as if it was in neutral. I did some research and found a recall on similar car, the 2013 Dodge Dart: 2013 DODGE DART Report Date: April 11, 2019 Campaign Number: 19V293000 Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with 6-speed automatic transmissions. They are crooked people and shouldn’t be a business I have so much proof INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

POWER TRAIN

JUST BOUGHT THE CAR, WITHIN A MONTH THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WAS A POWER TRAIN LEAK WHICH THEY REPLACED. A FEW DAYS LATER, I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION TURNING AND MY WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED, CAUSING ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. AN OFFICER HAPPENED TO BE ON THE SAME ROAD AND SAW THAT MY CAR WAS ALSO SMOKING AS WELL WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE PREVIOUS POWER TRAIN LEAK. I LOOKED AT OTHER RECALLS AND SURE ENOUGH, THERE ARE SOME ON THE 2011-2013 REGARDING STEERING AND BRAKE SYSTEMS AS WELL. THEY DEFINITELY NEED TO CHECK THE 2014 DODGE AVENGER AS WELL FOR SIMILAR ISSUES. NOW THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA AND MY AXEL IS RUINED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

2012 Dodge Avenger at 76,000 miles Lillington, NC

POWER TRAIN

I HAVE A 2012 DODGE AVENGER WITH APPROXIMATELY 76200 MILES ON IT. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT MY TRANSMISSION MADE A CLUNKING SOUND AND MY VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR BUT THE RPMS BUT JUMP UP TO ABOUT 7000 AND STAY THERE. I WAS ON A FOUR LANE ROADWAY GOING THROUGH A CITY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. ENDED UP MY TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH 76,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. TRANSMISSION ISSUES SEEM TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE DODGE AVENGERS. AND OF COURSE WHEN I CALLED DODGE CUSTOMER CARE THEY STATED THEY CAN DO NOTHING FOR ME ON ANY KIND OF REIMBURSEMENT. TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 76000 MILES! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM.

VEHICLE IN LIMP MODE AND WON'T SHIFT GEARS PROPERTY. STARTED AFTER A PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE A ISSUE UNTIL I HAD IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN STARTED THE LIMP MODE AND THEN DRIVING IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. BECAUSE IT WON'T CHANGE GEAR AND GOING UP A HILL IS IMPOSSIBLE WHEN IT WON'T CHANGE GEARS. OR SPEED UP.. IT SLOWS DOWN INSTEAD.

2012 Dodge Avenger at 73,000 miles Statesboro, GA

POWER TRAIN

VEHICLE GOES INTO TRANSMISSION LIMP MODE OUT NO WHERE CAUSING VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN AND LOCK INTO 1ST GEAR. WHILE DOING THIS THE VEHICLE IS INCAPABLE OF PICKING UP SPEED OR MAINTAINS SPEED SAFELY OF OVER 20 TO 25 MILES PER HOUR. DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS P0882 ON MY CODE SCANNER STATING POSSIBLE LOOSE PIN CONNECTION OR CONNECTIONS, LOW VOLTAGE TO TRANSMISSION CONTROL TIPM ( TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE ), TCM ( TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE ) ETC., CAR WAS IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT ACCELLERATE TO BEYOND 20-25 MILES PER HOUR MAX AS CAR WILL NOT UPSHIFT. AFTER CHECKING ALL CONNECTIONS I RESET AND ERASED CODE AND CAR DROVE A FEW MILES NORMALLY AND SHIFTING PROPERLY BEFORE DOING SAME AGAIN WITHIN 5 MINUTES. HAD CAR TOWED 25 MILES HOME AT NIGHT. SPOKE TO SERVICE TECH AT LOCAL DODGE DEALER. HE STATED THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE MODEL CARS ALL THE WAY THRU THE NEW DODGE CHALLENGER. AND MYSELF I STATE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS YOU UNEXPECTEDLY CAN NOT AVOID SLOWING DOWN AND YOU CAN NOT SPEED UP TO AVOID A REAR END COLLISION BY OTHERS DRIVING BEHIND YOU
