NHTSA investigations into the 2013 Dodge Dart
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures
On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the drive...

Recalls on the 2013 Dodge Dart
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 202554120,117 units in Canada
Powertrain
Issue: On certain vehicles, the shifter cable may detach. As a result, the transmission may not shift gears when the shifter is moved. Additionally, if the vehicle isn't in the Park (P) position, and the parking brake isn't applied, the vehicle could roll away. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. Vehicles that were repaired under V34 (Transport Canada recall no. 2019-183) also require this repair. Safety Risk: A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify owners in writing. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.
Recall 2024548314,717 units in Canada
Label
Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.
Recall 201918320,117 units in Canada
Powertrain
Issue: On certain cars equipped with an automatic transmission, the shifter cable may detach. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. If a driver attempts to exit the car while it is not in the Park position, and the parking brake is not applied, the car could move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the car could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the transmission side shifter cable bushing with an improved one. Note: The gear position indicator on the instrument cluster and next to the shifter will continue to work properly. In addition, if the driver's door is opened while the transmission is not in Park, the door ajar messages will display on the instrument cluster and chimes will sound.
Recall 201557111,988 units in Canada
Brakes
On certain vehicles, engine oil may migrate from the vacuum pump into the brake booster. Prolonged brake booster diaphragm exposure to engine oil could cause the diaphragm to fail, leading to a loss of brake booster assist. This may result in increased brake pedal effort, which could increase stopping distances, potentially resulting in a crash causing injury and/or damage property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the brake booster grommet for the presence of oil. If no oil is found, the vacuum tube assembly will be replaced. If oil is found, the vacuum pump, vacuum tube assembly, brake booster and master cylinder will be replaced.
Recall 20153823,376 units in Canada
Powertrain
On certain vehicles, a defect in the Transmission Control Module (TCM) mounting bracket may cause the printed circuit board solder joints to separate, resulting in an electrical open circuit in the TCM. An open circuit in the TCM could cause the transaxle to shift into “Neutral” without warning. If the transmission shifts into neutral, the vehicle may experience a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the Transmission Control Module and the TCM mounting bracket.
Recall 201339347 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles equipped with the "Mopar 13" upfit package, the front side airbag may not have been installed correctly. This could cause the front side airbag to not deploy properly or perform as designed in certain types of crashes, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Correction: Dealers will inspect the side airbag installation and remove/reinstall as necessary.
Recall 20131991,934 units in Canada
Engine
Certain vehicles equipped with 1.4L MultiAir turbo engines may experience engine stalling at ambient temperatures of -6.5 degrees celsius or colder. This would result in the loss of motive power, which in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and driver reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module.
Recall 20131056 units in Canada
Brakes
On certain vehicles, incorrect rear brake calipers may have been installed during vehicle assembly. As a result, the parking brake system may not function. Should the vehicle be parked on a sufficient slope, this could allow unintended vehicle movement, which could cause a crash resulting in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the rear brake calipers.

1)Headlights. I have had issues with my headlights since day one. They are so dull I upgraded the bulbs with the brightest LED bulbs available which did not help my legs did not get any brighter, I've had my headlights adjusted four different times which still did not help. I drive with my brights on anytime I have to drive at night and I still can hardly see anything on the road. It is not my eyes that are bad because multiple people have said the same thing and no one can tell me why my lights are so dime. This year alone I have replaced both my headlamp bulbs and turn signal bulb (left side) a total of 4 times because they have busted. I have ran into 3 ditches because I can't see anything. NOW, I do not drive at night and have lost work as a result. 2)Wheels. I have lost 4 front wheel tires while driving down the interstate in the last 2 years. I've purchased 8 tires during this time &have replaced all the broken lugnuts ea time. The lugnuts all snapped completely in 1/2 when my tires came off. I've been towed ea time and have endangered the life of others as well as my own & now I do not drive long distances & try to avoid going over 45 miles/hrs in fear of this happening again. As a result of loosing my tires while driving on interstate, I've replace right hub assembly 2 times &eft one time in last 2 years. On the electrical, tire, wheels, head lights & bulb replacements and repairs I have spent thousands .I was excited about getting my 1st dodge, but the dangerous, expensive, and horrible experience from my dodge has not only limited my driving to daytime hours on roads no more than 45 mph,, it's put fear in me to drive &purchase another! Every person that has worked on my car, been a passanger & that knows about my car us in utter disbelief as I am. The incident that occurred involved my clutch and transmission. I had purchased the car (8/17/2021)about 2 weeks before complete failure. Everything was going fine until I entered the freeway (8/26/2021)and after driving around 5 miles in 6th gear doing about 65 with no initial issues, I started to smell something burning. I immediately looked for the safest way to get out of traffic. While slowing, gears weren’t shifting and I was basically stuck in neutral. I only had control of brakes and steering wheel which caused me to have to make extremely dangerous evasive maneuvers. Once safe, I was able to find the source of the smoke. Which turned out to be dot 3 from where, what I think is the slave cylinder connects to the top of the transmission. I was able to remove it to check for damage/defection. It was dripping dot 3 and I didn’t see any noticeable defects. Plugged it back. Tried to drive and the clutch engages to start vehicle/change gears. But gears were able to change without clutch as well. Yet i couldn’t get out of neutral. Towed it home, next day clutch pedal was on the floor with no pressure. All components are available for inspection upon request, the safety of everyone involved was put at risk due to me not having any control of anything but the brakes and steering; with no warning or idea of what could be wrong due to the instantaneous nature of the disastrous incident. On a public highway with people going speeds of up to 85 mph. I have not been able to get confirmation or reproduction by anyone. I have not had any inspection due to my lack of knowledge on this process. There was no warning light or indication that the incident was going to happen until I had limited-no control.

WHEELS
My name is [XXX], and I am writing to formally report a potentially serious safety issue involving a wheel/rim on my 2013 Dodge Dart SXT with the 2.0L engine. On the night of [XXX], I was driving home from work from Monticello, New York, to Loch Sheldrake, New York. The trip took place late at night and continued past midnight. During or after this trip, I discovered significant damage to one of the vehicle’s wheels. Upon inspection, there appeared to be an opening or breach in the metal of the rim, with irregular and damaged metal surrounding the affected area. I have photographs documenting the condition and can provide them for inspection. I am concerned that this may represent a structural failure or other structural defect of the wheel. A failure of a wheel while the vehicle is being operated could potentially result in loss of tire pressure, tire failure, loss of vehicle control, or a serious accident. To the best of my knowledge, I did not intentionally damage or modify the wheel. I therefore request that Dodge/Stellantis document this incident and determine whether the condition could potentially be related to a manufacturing defect, material defect, casting defect, corrosion, fatigue, or another condition affecting the structural integrity of the wheel. The damaged wheel was removed by my mechanic. Unfortunately, the wheel was subsequently sent to a nearby salvage/junkyard before I was aware that it might be important for a safety investigation. My mechanic informed me that the facility is LKQ – OEM Recycled / Aftermarket by Keystone. I do not currently know the exact location of the facility, but I understand that it is somewhere in the local area. I am attempting to obtain the exact location and determine whether the wheel can still be located and recovered. I have photographic evidence of the damage and can provide it, along with the repair documentation and any other information available to me. On June 11, 2026, I took my vehicle to a certified dealership to have safety recall R63 (NHTSA Campaign Number 15V-800) performed. The dealership inspected the vehicle, claimed no oil was found at the break booster, and only replaced the vacuum supply tube, leaving the original vacuum pump in place. Recently, I experienced a sudden and total loss of power brake assist while driving, resulting in a rock hard brake pedal. Upon inspecting the vehicle myself, I disconnected the vacuum hose directly at the mechanical vacuum pump and found visible oil pooling at the pump's output fitting. I have captured this on video. This oil migration is the exact defect the recall is intended to fix, and it has now destroyed my brake booster. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership on 7/8/2026. However, the service manager is refusing to replace the brake booster and master cylinder under the R63 recall. They claim the booster failed for unrelated reasons, despite the physical evidence of the oil leak originating from the vacuum pump. The initial recall repair was ineffective at correcting the defect, and the dealership is improperly denying me the federally mandated safety recall remedy by attempting to charge me out-of-pocket for the resulting catastrophic failure.
