TRAILER HITCHES

ON CERTAIN CLASS A MOTOR H0MES BUILT WITH GASOLINE ENGINES, THE FRAME EXTENSION LOWER FLANGE MAY CRACK ALLOWING THE HITCH TO BEND AND POSSIBLY SEPARATE FROM THE MOTOR HOME.

Risk: THIS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE TOWED VEHICLE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL ADD AN ADDITION OF TWO PIECES OF ANGLE STEEL TO THE FRAME EXTENSION AND HITCH MOUNTING POINT IN ORDER TO REINFORCE THE FRAME EXTENSION FLANGE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 15, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MONACO AT 877-466-6226. NOTE: THE ENDING MANUFACTURING DATE FOR INDIANA BUILT MOTOR HOMES IS MARCH 8, 2002 WHILE THE OREGON BUILT MOTOR HOMES WERE BUILT THROUGH NOVEMBER 2002. THE FEDERAL ID LABEL LOCATED ON THE WALL NEXT TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT SPECIFIES IN WHICH STATE THE MOTOR HOME WAS BUILT.

ON CERTAIN CLASS A MOTOR HOMES, A TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR OCCURRED IN THE PRINTING OF THE FEDERAL CERTIFICATION LABEL. THE INITIAL LABEL SHOWS A FRONT PSI OF 105 FOR 255/70R22.5 SIZED TIRES WITH AN 11,000 LB FRONT AXLE. THE CORRECT PSI FOR 255/70R22.5 TIRES ON AN 11,000 LB FRONT AXLE SHOULD BE 115 PSI.

Risk: THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE REGULATIONS.

CERTAIN MOTOR HOME CHASSIS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 105, "HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEMS." THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR MAY NOT FUNCTION AS REQUIRED BY STANDARD.

Risk: IN SOME OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR WILL NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE IGNITION IS IN THE START POSITION OR FOR A LOW BRAKE FLUID CONDITION, IF THE BODY BUILDER RELIED SOLELY UPON FORD'S IVM COMPLIANCE STATEMENT FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR.

ON CERTAIN CLASS A MOTOR HOMES, THE FLOOR TRUSS NETWORK SUPPORT SYSTEM HAS A POTENTIAL TO WEAKEN CAUSING INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL FEATURES TO BECOME MISALIGNED. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ARE 1999 - 2003 CLASS A MOTOR HOMES MANUFACTURED ON F53 20,500 POUND GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING (GVWR), FORD CHASSIS, AND 2000-2003 CLASS A MOTOR HOMES MANUFACTURED ON W-22 22,000 POUND GVWR, WORKHORSE CHASSIS.

Risk: CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN THE BOTTOMING OUT THE SUSPENSION AND AMPLIFICATION OF THE STRESS PLACED ON THE FLOOR TRUSS NETWORK. THE ADDITIONAL STRESS CAN RESULT IN THE FRACTURE OF WELDS SECURING THE FLOOR TRUSS NETWORK SYSTEM TO THE CHASSIS FRAME RAIL AND/OR FRACTURE OF THE FLOOR TRUSS NETWORK SUPPORT SYSTEM. THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT THERE COULD BE DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL WIRING AND/OR FUEL LINES WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO A FIRE.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:CONTROLS, PEDALS AND LINKAGES

ON CLASS A MOTOR HOMES BUILT WITH A STEERABLE AUXILIARY AXLE AND EQUIPPED WITH CERTAIN MERITOR-WABCO BRAKE SYSTEM TWO AND FOUR PORT RELAY VALVES, THE VALVE MAY STICK OPEN WHEN A HIGH-PRESSURE BRAKE APPLICATION IS RELEASED.

Risk: WHEN THE VALVE STICKS OPEN, IT CAN RESULT IN A TOTAL LOSS OF AIR FROM EITHER THE SERVICE OR THE PARK BRAKE SYSTEM. THE DRIVER MAY LOSE BRAKING ABILITY UNDER A SERVICE APPLICATION, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Risk: SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD OCCUR IF THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT IS NOT PROPERLY RESTRAINED.

Motorhomes that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety Risk: A tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Issue: On certain motorhomes, the fuel rail assembly could develop a leak. Note: This recall only affects motorhomes equipped with a Cummins L9 diesel engine. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Cummins will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorhome to a Cummins authorized service center to inspect the fuel rail. If damage is found, the fuel rail and fuel lines will be replaced. If no damage is found, the fuel rail will be reassembled with new crush washers using a special tool.

On certain motorhomes, the wiring for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system could become disconnected. If the wiring for the HVAC system's potentiometer were to become disconnected, there is a risk that the wiring may be reconnected improperly, which could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the HVAC controller’s existing potentiometer, and either solder the wires or replace the control panel, as necessary. Note: Owners are advised that if the HVAC control panel becomes inoperable for any reason, to not use it or attempt any repairs. It must be inspected and if necessary, repaired or replaced by a certified REV Recreation Group dealer technician.

On certain vehicles equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. Electrical

On certain motorhomes, water may enter the 12-Volt harnesses’ pin connectors due to a missing gasket, and/or the location of the connector. If water were to enter the connector, an electrical short could result, which may result in uncommanded operation of the slide-out room while the vehicle is in transit. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, install a gasket for each affected harness pin connectors and re-route the wiring harnesses.

Steering

On certain motorhomes, a rubber coated braided power steering hose may have inadequate clearance to the starter power stud due to incorrect routing. This could cause the power steering hose to rub against the stud on the starter motor, which could cause an electrical arc and a power steering fluid leak. A power steering leak in the presence of an electrical arc could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. A power steering fluid leak could also require additional steering effort which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and reroute the power steering hose for proper clearance to the starter stud.

Accessories

On certain motorhomes equipped with Lippert Components Inc. electric entry steps, an internal bolt on the steps that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps could fracture. This results in the fan gear disengaging from the steps, which could cause the steps to stop in an unexpected position and appear to be loose or unstable. If the steps become unstable, it could cause a person to fall, resulting in injury. Correction: Dealers will install a step retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, and all bolts of the mechanism will also be replaced.

On certain motorhomes equipped with an Atwood cooking appliance , the burner tube leading from the gas manifold to the burner heads has a depression or 'kink' in the exterior bend restricting proper airflow and gas mixture. Engine

On certain motorhomes equipped with a Cummins ISL CM850 engine, the connecting rod contains a machining defect in the wrist pin bushing of the rod that could cause a seizure of the piston pin. If allowed to progress, this can lead to engine failure with the possibility of the rod rupturing the block cavity, sending oil and debris onto the roadway and causing a vehicle crash.
