Recall caused full engine failure which caused 75mph to abrupt stop on Highway. Violently shaking and leaked gas inside vehicle. I was confused because I had no collision and liberty mutual denied my claims, but I was hurt from a recall - dealer frequently recorded as fixed during a scam that caused me to lose my full savings and be stuck with a unfixed covered car. (Dealer tried to say they were helping me buy not charging $2500 and said they were sending my car to an impound.) causing me to pay $16k (full savings) towards 18k to clear the loan....the manager said I did not have a deal and that my impounded car would be $4k a month. (Way back confirms recall being fixed on records as I refused unsafe gas recall to be fixed. They sent the car back in pieces) I had to recover it from an abandoned nearby neighborhood and store it for years trying to get help - I am now 100% TBI and believe this gas leak and impact caused me injuries.

Formal safety complaint against dealer for recall malpractice and non-compliance with federal safety repair procedures under Campaign 21V635000. During recall service, the service department completely bypassed the mandatory TOPIx Workshop Manual Section 310-01 electronic priming sequence, leaving high-pressure fuel rails completely dry upon reassembly. Bypassing this safety protocol introduced severe air pockets into the high-pressure fuel system. Time-stamped OBD diagnostic screenshots taken on the dealer lot right before departure confirm the vehicle's computer had already registered severe fuel pressure drops and engine misfires due to dry-running High-Pressure Fuel Pumps and injectors. This mechanical deviation caused the mechanical High-Pressure Fuel Pumps to fail internally and the Bank 2 fuel injectors to seize permanently wide open, resulting in continuous fuel dumping, fouled spark plugs, a destroyed oxygen sensor, and a total loss of motive power on a public roadway. Furthermore, the dealership generated federal recall compliance documentation certifying a quality-control test drive was performed when the official repair order shows identical "In" and "Out" mileage, proving the vehicle never left the service bay. The dealer refuses to remedy the related damage under federal guidelines and refuses to communicate a resolution. Due to intentional document falsification, consumer demands the manufacturer fund a $0.00 balance remedy executed at an alternate certified facility including: (1) Replacement of BOTH High-Pressure Fuel Pumps (HPFPs), (2) Replacement of all Bank 2 injectors, plugs, and oxygen sensor, (3) Crankcase oil flush due to fuel dilution, (4) Engine compression and emissions back-pressure tests, and (5) A written 12-month nationwide parts/labor warranty.

The contact owns a 2011 Land Rover LR4. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel and there was an abnormal fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The contact later discovered that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); and associated the failure with the recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was repaired under the recall. Upon returning to the dealer, the contact was informed by the service tech that there was a part not properly connected to the fuel tank. The contact waited for an additional half hour before the vehicle was returned. Days later, after refueling the vehicle, fuel started pouring directly from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken back to dealer, where a service advisor informed the contact that the mechanic had botched the recall repair and that the flange was not properly connected to the fuel tank. After the second repair, the contact stated that while his wife was driving the vehicle, the gas and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact used a code reader to scan the vehicle and retrieved DTC: P0442-Small EVAP leak. The contact reached out to the dealer and was informed that he had to pay for a diagnostic test to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 169,571.

I am writing to formally request a review of my vehicle for inclusion in NHTSA Recall 21V-635, issued May 11, 2022, concerning fuel leaks at the fuel tank flange assembly. My vehicle is a 2012 Land Rover LR4, VIN [XXX] . Although my local Land Rover dealer has informed me that my VIN is not currently included in the recall population, my vehicle is experiencing the exact condition described in the recall notice — a fuel leak originating from the fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank. The recall letter for 21V-635 states that all Land Rover LR4 vehicles model years 2010–2016 are included. My vehicle falls squarely within that model year range. Given this, and the fact that my vehicle is exhibiting the precise defect identified in the recall, I am concerned that my VIN may have been inadvertently excluded from the recall population. This issue presents a serious safety concern due to the risk of fire associated with fuel leakage. The symptoms and failure location match the recall description. I respectfully request that NHTSA review my case to determine whether: My VIN was mistakenly omitted from the recall population, or The recall population should be expanded or corrected to include my vehicle. I am prepared to provide photographs, repair estimates, diagnostic reports, or inspection documentation confirming the fuel leak at the flange assembly upon request. Because this defect involves fuel leakage and a significant potential fire hazard, I believe it warrants careful review to ensure all similarly affected vehicles are properly covered. The 2022 repair to address NHTSA Safety Recall Number: 21V-635 - Gasoline Fuel Tank Flange Assembly Cracking was inadequate and led to a fuel pump crack that we are now having to repair in January 2025, after a routine check indicated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. We transport three school-aged children in our vehicle and was told by a mechanic that the car was unsafe to drive and could blow up if we continued to drive it. My husband had the vehicle towed and contacted Land Rover, since we previously had it repaired and continued to experience the issues other drivers complained about even after the repair, including fuel odor, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp illuminating and liquid fuel on the ground. Land Rover indicated that the repair from 2022 was adequate and refused to remedy the fuel tank leak. The cost for the repair is $1700.

2015 Land Rover LR4 Chippewa Falls, WI

Fuel leaking under vehicle while parked . Previous recall for fuel filler tube completed. Since completion, strong gas odor was evident when tank was filled and in garage. Vehicle returned to dealer after the gas odor occurred after every tank fill. Vehicle returned to service center that did recall, as no issues existed prior to recall. I was told there was nothing wrong with the recall repair. I then went and immediately filled the tank and returned to same service area. I was told, still no problem. Vehicle taken to a different dealer after realizing gas was leaking onto the garage floor and repaired at my expense…$1,426.02. It seemed enough of an urgent safety concern to have it immediately fixed. I basically was told to live with the smell at the original dealership.

The fuel system failed on my first real highway trip to the mountains. Suddenly lost power to accelerate on highway making it dangerous to pass, warning lights came on. Vehicle was taken to the nearest small town not equipped to repair however vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive and I had to have it towed 300 km home. Fuel injection system failed and caused metal bits to get into engine causing engine to also need replacement. This is at only 144,000 kms. This was a $15,200 repair. Seems like this was a huge failure of the fuel injection system.

2016 Land Rover LR4 at 73,000 miles Monument, CO Fire

The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover LR4. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH the low coolant warning light was illuminated, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard without stopping the vehicle. The vehicle was shifted to neutral, and the start/stop button was depressed in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with cracks in the coolant and fuel systems that caused a leak and needed replacement. The coolant reservoir tank and fuel flange was replaced however the low coolant warning light and other lights were still on. The vehicle was then taken to a certified Land Rover repair facilities were the mechanic informed her that the coolant tank was not replaced but sealant was placed on the cracks. The independent mechanic replaced the coolant reservoir along with the brakes that the dealer that the dealer had install backwards. The contact stated that the low coolant warning light was still illuminated and that neither facilities could remedy the issue. The contact state that she received a notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer was contacted and informed her that there was no recall for her vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer was notified and informed her to contact the dealer to schedule a recall repair appointment. The contact stated that while waiting for the dealer to verify the recall, she was driving at 75 MPH, when the power steering and braking capability was lost with smoke and fire coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated she pulled over and her and her child exited the vehicle without injury. The fire and police department were contacted. The fire department extinguished the flames. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it sat for several months without repairs. The failure cause was not diagnosed or repaired. 2021-08-11 Recall no. 21V635000 / Land Rovers recall # N623 were completed. Following the recall repair had to go back to dealer twice ( 9/15/22 & 10/22/22) for the same issue of the fuel smell in the vehicle could be driving, parked, or idling the smell remains the smell is very overpowering kids and I are getting bad headaches/light-headed. For sure it isn't safe and don't believe the initial fix was the answer and there is more to the recall.

while driving at approximately 70 mph on the highway, I encountered a severe issue that jeopardized my safety and the safety of others on the road.The problem manifested as a fuel leak, resulting in fumes inside the vehicle that caused impairment to my ability to operate the vehicle safely. This impairment led to the vehicle entering a gated mode and initiating aggressive braking, almost causing a collision.This incident is deeply alarming, and I believe it poses a serious risk to the well-being of drivers and passengers. I am reaching out to request an immediate investigation into this matter and to seek information on any safety recalls or issues related to the fuel system of the 2010 Land Rover LR4. • Ask the customer (and document verbatim) what occurred or what the alleged defect is? I attempted multiple times to have Land Rover complete Safety Recall N623 – NHTSA Recall Number 21V-635 on my 2016 Land Rover LR4 -Gasoline Fuel Tank Flange Assembly Crack. A number of the Land Rover dealerships stated that no recall existed. After multiple attempts to confirm this recall was required for my vehicle, I was able to schedule the repair at Land Rover Cary. I reduced driving the vehicle to only minimal driving requirements while I was awaiting the recall requirement. The recall repair was canceled twice after I drove to Cary from Pinehurst, NC due to a lack of service technicians. I was driving to the dealership this third time for the repair when the fire occurred in the vehicle. I was driving to the dealership, for this recall repair, when a number of warnings flashed on the driving display. Smoke began to bellow out of the vehicle. I put on my hazards and pulled off the main highway and onto the shoulder. I turned the ignition off, exited the vehicle, and opened the hood to observe the engine bay. There were flames shooting out of the engine compartment. I went to grab my extinguisher and called 911. The flames died down rapidly. I could see that the fire melted a number of components on the bottom of the engine causing oil to spray all over. I would like to add that the driveway to my home sits at about a 30-degree incline and I typically park with the vehicle pointing down towards the nose. I wonder if the slow gas leak traveled down the vehicle towards the engine and saturated the parts with gasoline causing this issue.
