The steering wheel does not return to center when making turns. It is more pronounced during left turns. This is a dangerous condition that could result in the vehicle going left or right of center and striking pedestrians, bicyclists, oncoming traffic, fixed objects. An independent service center confirmed that the issue was a bad torque sensor and bad motor in the steering column. I have schedule a police inspection for 5/23/2024. Issue first appeared this year. No warnings.

Our torque sensor needs replacing. McFarland Ford in Exeter said that the torque sensor was repaird via recall at First Ford in Fall River, MA 2014. We have NEVER had a problem with steering. First Ford in Fall River informed me that if we brought the vehicle in for an oil change, any recall item would have been checked, and if they found no problem with it at that time, it was reported, and that ended the recall status for our vehicle. Please, we need your help. My husband is 83; I am 70. This whole thing smells. How can checking something we had no problem with cancel a recall status on our vehicle. There was no warning. Our vehicle worked fine. We got in the next morning, and the steering wheel wouldn't turn.

The steering wheel locked up while turning at about 20 MPH. There were not any warning lights that illuminated before, during, or after the incident. This happened on two separate occasions spanning about 7 or 8 months apart. I was fortunate enough to have safely pulled off into the shoulder of the road on both occasions. I turned the vehicle off for about 2-3 minutes and started it back up and the power assisted steering worked again. If I was unable to pull off into the shoulder, it could have resulted in an accident involving another vehicle.
