Odometer readings owners gave when they filed. About half of all complaints include one.
A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.
Seatbelt Retractor Failure
See attached closing resume summary.
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.
Seats And Restraints
Issue: On certain vehicles, the driver's seat belt anchor point may be positioned too high. Canadian regulations require seat belt anchorages to be installed in certain locations. Safety Risk: This small error does not affect the safety or function of the seat belt. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. Polaris has made changes to ensure that all new vehicles have the driver's seat belt anchor point in the correct location.
Electrical
Issue: On certain vehicles, the terminals of the battery fuse block could be damaged during normal driving. This can result in a loss of forward and rear lighting, a loss of gauges, and a loss of power steering assist. Safety Risk: A loss of forward lighting would reduce visibility. A loss of rear lighting could make the vehicle less visible and cause a following driver to not recognize that a vehicle ahead is braking. A loss of power steering assist could make the vehicle difficult to steer. These failures could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Polaris will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the battery fuse block terminals and relocate the 50-A chassis fuse.
Seats And Restraints
Issue: On certain vehicles, the seat base may have been assembled improperly. This could cause the seat belt buckle to detach or cause the seat slider not to latch properly. This could result in unexpected movement of the seat or seat back. Safety Risk: If the seat moves while driving, vehicle control could be affected. In a crash, a seat that moves or a seat belt that separates could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the seat belt bracket and the seat slider latch inspected. If an incomplete or missing weld is found, or if a slider does not latch properly, the seat base will be replaced. Note: This supersedes Recall 2018-144. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall do not require repair under this recall.
Seats And Restraints
On certain vehicles, a problem with the seat belts could cause them not to stay tight during a side crash. Specifically, the seat belt retractor on the opposite side of the impact may separate and fail to keep the belt locked, creating an increased risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will install energy management loops that provide secondary retention of the seat belt and reduce lateral loading.
Brakes
On certain vehicles, the pin and retaining clip that join the brake pedal to the master cylinder may have been installed incorrectly. This could allow the separation of the brake pedal from the master cylinder, resulting in a complete loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect the connection between the brake pedal and master cylinder and repair as necessary.
Seats And Restraints
On certain vehicles, the seat belt buckle and seat back may dislodge from seat base and/or the seat sliders may not latch properly. If the seat were to slide unexpectedly, vehicle control could be affected, and/or in the event of a crash, if the seat belt buckle and seat back were to dislodge from the seat base, an occupant may not be properly restrained, which would increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the weld of the seat belt bracket and inspect the seat slider latching function. If a weld is found incomplete or missing, or if a slider does not latch properly, the seat base will be replaced. Note: This recall is superseded by recall 2019136. Please see <a href="http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/VRDB-BDRV/search-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng&&rn=2019136">recall 2019136</a> for more information.
Suspension
On certain vehicles which had a rear swing arm previously replaced under recall T-16-06 (Transport Canada no. 2016-520), the swing arm may have been installed without two dust plug grommets. Without dust plug grommets, debris could contaminate the rear wheel speed sensor, which could affect ABS and Traction/Stability Control functions, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect for the presence of the grommets, and install if found missing. Note: If the speed sensor were to become inoperative, ABS and Traction/Stability control dash lights would illuminate.
Seats And Restraints
Certain three-wheeled vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 202 - Head Restraints. The vehicles imported from the U.S. to be sold in Canada are equipped with seats that do not meet the requirements of the Canadian standard. A thinner seatback and head restraint could increase the risk of injury to the occupants in the event of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the seats.
Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.
Reports where the owner recorded a crash, a fire, an injury or a death.
SEATS
Both the driver and passenger seat back screws shrouds have broken off under normal conditions and operation while operating the vehicle. When coming to a stop or while driving, the seat back moves, pushing the driver and passenger up against the steering wheel and dash with an increased risk of failure and accident with absolutely no warning. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized polaris dealer with no resolution.

WHEELS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2017 POLARIS SLINGSHOT. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL AND SPOKES DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE TRAVELED ACROSS THE HIGHWAY FROM THE FAR RIGHT LANE, CRASHED INTO A WALL, RICOCHETED OFF THE WALL, AND LANDED ON THE SHOULDER. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISED RIBS AND A SORE NECK. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT LOT AND THEN TOWED TO FREEDOM POWERSPORTS HUNTSVILLE (12401 MEMORIAL PKWY SE, HUNTSVILLE, AL 35803, 256-829-5507), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 6039418. THE CONTACT LOCATED NTSB NUMBER: NVS-214JRYPE15-016 FROM MAY OF 2015 AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR. THE FAILURE WAS MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 13,000.

SEAT BELTS
ON MAY 5, 2018, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE I WAS LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING THE STREET WITHIN SPEED LIMITS AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO ENTER 2ND GEAR. THE GAS PEDAL FELT STRANGE WHEN I DEPRESSED IT, SINCE IT WENT TO THE RIGHT. JUST THEN THE VEHICLE SPUN TO THE LEFT AND HIT A PARKED VEHICLE, REPEATEDLY. THE VEHICLE KEPT ACCELERATING, AFTER EVERY IMPACT AS IT WENT FORWARD TOWARDS THE PARKED CAR. THE PARKED CAR SUFFERED MULTIPLIED IMPACTS TO THE DRIVER FRONT, FENDER, DOORS, AND REAR AS THE SLINGSHOT KEPT ACCELERATING AND HITTING IT, BOUNCING OFF EACH TIME, ONLY TO ACCELERATE AND FURTHER RAMMING THE VEHICLE. THE SLINGSHOT FINALLY STOPPED HITTING THE PARKED CAR ONLY AFTER THE FRONT LEFT TIRE/SUSPENSION BROKE. AFTER I HAD MY INJURIES CHECKED, I WENT BACK TO VISIT THE VEHICLE WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE GAS PEDAL HAD SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT OF ITS ORIGINAL POSITION. AS A RESULT, THIS CREATED A WEDGE BETWEEN THE GAS PEDAL WITH THE TUB FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THIS MAY EXPLAIN WHY THE SLINGSHOT WAS ACCELERATING, EVEN AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. I HAVE PHOTOS AND WILL GET THE POLICE REPORTS, PLUS ANY WITNESS STATEMENTS, IF ANY; BUT I DO NOT HAVE IT AT THE TIME OF SUBMISSION, SINCE I AM USING A WORK COMPUTER. I WILL SUBMIT ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AS REQUIRED. ALSO, IN THE ACCIDENT, THE SAFETY BELT DID NOT HOLD ME IN PLACE AS THE SLINGSHOT REPEATEDLY HIT THE PARKED VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT TAKE ANY PICTURES OF THE SEATBELT.

In the owners' own words, exactly as filed with NHTSA.
SEATS
Seat backs on both driver and passenger sides are coming off frame. The screws/bolts are falling out no way to put them back in and secure the back of the seats to seat frame. Have only 3600 miles on a 2017 Slingshot has not been used much. The back of the seat screws are Fallin out making the seat backs come off frame. Have asked other people in our Slingshot club if they have had a issue and we have gotten alot of yes happened to us to. It is not just ours and have no idea how to fix, but seems as this could be dangerous if back of seat is not secure. Had one couple to fix this problem they had to remove seats, remove seat backs and they Gorilla Glued the seat backs to the frame to fix the problem. I thought umm I'm not super gluing, or Gorilla Gluing my seats in. Seems to be a issue with our particular seats which came stock in the 2017 SL's.We have the limited edition Midnight Cherry. Nice seats just that the screws holding seat back on are breaking free of however they are attached to the seat. It is not right and these issues need repaired for all slingshots with this issue. Looks like there was some sort of seat recall already but do not know if this issue is included in the seat recall? Have pictures form will not allow me to drop them in or upload them? Let me explain better. There is a back on the screws preventing them from being able to tighten or to replace they are dangling out of the holes. I know we are not the only ones having this issue and we have no idea how to repair other then to buy new seats for our slingshot. However we should not have to do that. It seems that it will be very unsafe during a crash. Will tey to upload pictures again.

SERVICE BRAKES
After braking a few times the “brake failure” light will come in the dashboard disabling the cruise control. After researching online I found this article TSA-18-02 that states that it is a known problem! This should be a recall and not just an ”service advisory”
