NHTSA investigations into the 2007 Subaru Impreza
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2007 Subaru Impreza
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 202000123,159 units in Canada
Airbag
Issue: This recall is for certain vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced as a part of an earlier recall campaign. This recall provides a final repair. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the passenger-front airbag inflator. The passenger-front airbag module or inflator will be replaced as necessary. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.
Recall 201702025,303 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.
Recall 201134459,432 units in Canada
Suspension
On certain vehicles, the front lower control arms could corrode due to exposure to humid environments and road de-icing chemicals. Over time, corrosion could progress causing thinning and perforation of the steel, which could allow the control arm to fracture near the forward pivot attachment to the chassis. Lower control arm failure could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the front lower control arms and, depending on the degree of corrosion exhibited, will either rustproof or replace them.
Recall 20083331,489 units in Canada
Engine
On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.5L turbo engine, the oil supply pipe to the turbocharger may crack at the stay brazing on the cylinder head-side. If the pipe cracks it will allow oil to leak and if the leaking oil contacts components operating at high temperatures, an engine compartment fire could occur. Correction: Dealers will replace the cracked pipe with a modified unit or if no crack is found an additional bracket will be installed to increase the rigidity of the pipe.

I WAS MAKING A SLOW SPEED (~25 MPH) LEFT TURN WITH MY 2007 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.5I STATION WAGON ON A DIMLY LIT INTERSECTION AT NIGHT DURING THE RAIN. I MISJUDGED THE TURN, AND TURNED ABOUT 2 YARDS TOO EARLY. I DROVE OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A DITCH, COLLIDING HEADON WITH A CONCRETE STORM DRAIN. THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AT THE MOMENT OF IMPACT. AFTER THE IMPACT, THE ELECTRICAL INCLUDING THE HEADLIGHTS, STEREO SYSTEM AND CABIN LIGHTS WERE FUNCTIONING. I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE CAR, AND SPOKE WITH A WITNESS WHO WAS ABLE TO CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. WHILE WAITING FOR THE OFFICERS, ABOUT 6 MINUTES AFTER THE COLLISION THE FRONT OF THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER, A FIRE BEGAN BEHIND THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT. WHEN THE OFFICERS ARRIVED ON SCENE, THE FIRE HAD PROGRESSED SO THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, THE HEAT OF THE FIRE HAD EXPLODED THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. THE CAR WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD(LUCKILY AT 35 MPH) THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I DOWN SHIFTED AND USED THE EBRAKE AND STOPPED SAFELY AND NOTICED A PUDDLE UNDER THE CAR IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE HOME SAFELY, AND CHECKING THINGS OUT, I NOTICED THE 4 WAY CONNECTOR (RECALLED UNDER CAMPAIGN# WQK-47) WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND LOOKS AS THOUGH IT HAD NEVER BEEN ADDRESSED. THEN, WHILE LOOKING UP THE PART, I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT NOT ON MY SPECIFIC YEAR AND MODEL, EVEN THOUGH THE SURROUNDING MODELS AND YEARS WERE RECALLED. PERHAPS THIS WAS OVERLOOKED? OR THE AMOUNT OF UNMODIFIED SURVIVING WRX'S DIDN'T PETICULARLY JUSTIFY A RECALL ON THAT MODEL? EITHER WAY, IT COULD POTENTIALLY BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS IS ALSO AN INCREDIBLY INVOLVED FIX. TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SUBARU TODAY STATING THAT MY CAR IS AFFECTED BY THE RECALL, BUT THAT THEY DON'T EXPECT TO HAVE SUFFICIENT PARTS TO BEGIN REPAIRS UNTIL MARCH 31, 2018. I AM NOT HAPPY THAT I WILL HAVE TO WAIT SUCH A LONG TIME TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER THE DEALERSHIPS SHOULD BE FORCED TO MAKE REPAIRS ON A FASTER, MORE AGGRESSIVE TIME TABLE. I AM ENTERING THE DATE I RECEIVED THE LETTER FROM SUBRARU OF AMERICA BELOW

I RECEIVED THE NOTIFICATION ABOUT THE RECALL IN JULY 2016. IT IS NOW 10/31/16 AND I AM OLD THAT THE NEW AIRBAGS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I WILL RECEIVE A LETTER WHEN MY CAR CAN BE REPAIRED, BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING TO DATE. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THERE IS IMPACT OR IF WEATHER CONDITIONS IMPACT THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG THAT SHRAPNEL CAN BE RELEASED AND CAN BE FATAL TO PASSENGER(S). I CANNOT CARRY PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE AND I AM ALSO CONCERNED FOR MY OWN WELL BEING DRIVING MY VEHICLE.
