2022 Tiffin Allegro Open Road problems

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

In troubleshooting a power failure in the slide and leveling hydraulic system in this Class A RV, an electrical issue was discovered with the main powerline being frayed and corroded due to its placement next to the gas tank. It appears the power line may have been arching against the fuel tank. This seems like a very dangerous situation and should be reviewed. No incidents happened due to the discovery of this issue, and the powerline was repaired and moved away from the the fuel tank. If this was a repeated manufacturing issue by Tiffin, it should be investigated as it could cause a fire or worse explosion of the fuel tank.

The problem that the recall was supposed to address (the hydraulic slide system "creeping out" on it's own) has now re-appeared. Clearly, the fix for this recall is not working. The coach has developed 5 stress fractures in the fiberglass body in a year of use. I am concerned that coach is at danger of losing part of its body while on the road. The dealer has repaired two of these fractures but three more have rapidly developed. These repairs were completed under Tiffin structural warranty. No warning prior to cracks developing.

After months, Sept 26, 2023- Lippert Tech came to my house to work on problem. Following that visit on Oct 10- sent picture to Lippert, creepy slide continues. Nov 30, 2023, which is tomorrow is next visit for Lippert Tech. Cautiously optimistic since the solution is replace same cylinders from recall that this will finally fix the problem. I was told by an Tiffin rep on the phone that Lippert’s solution is to replace the cylinders that were replaced during the recall and the Tiffin rep indicated they are still seeing the same creepy slide issues after the second cylinder are replaced. Everyday I have to go out and retract the slides so there is less wear and tear on rubber seals and to protect the slide from weather, especially freezing rain or snow. And driving down road, have to worry that slides are not going to start to extend. I have had to pull over at a rest stop to retract the slides more than once. There is a webpage dedicated to creepy slide issues that other Tiffin RV owners have written about the same same problem. Tiffin needs to recall and switch, at their cost, from Lippert slides to a more functional, safe slide manufacturer so that RVer’s feel safe and do not cause harm or injury to themselves or others. Vehicle was part of a recall for a hydraulic slide issue where the slide that would move out of the RV body during driving 3 to 6 inches. New cylinders fixed the issue for about 10 months. Slide is moving out again during driving which could cause an accident. All owners who had the recall performed have had the new part fail within 6-12 months creating a new safety hazard which could cause death or serious injury from a collision. The recall needs to be reopened for a permanent fix. The rv company, tiffin, and lippert who designed the system did not fix the issue!

2022 TIFFIN ALLEGRO OPEN ROAD 34 PA- Consumer submitted copy of letter sent to Ford Corporation about experience with NHTSA recall- 22V-731-Ford F-53 chassis rear stabilizer bar attachment. Consumer states: "Even though parts needed to complete the recall repair would not be available until the first quarter of 2023 we started the search for a suitable repair facility in our area. We contacted the Ford Motor Company Motorhome Customer Assistance Center at the phone number provided in the recall letter. We had to make repeated calls because each representative we spoke to was limited in the number of shops they could recommend at one time. Our residential zip code is 88030 in rural New Mexico." (6 different calls listed in letter and the results.) "Eventually we called the FMCMCAC and was given the number to the Ford Recall/Warranty Center where we spoke with Ford Recall Reimbursement Representative Elissa Peter. She assigned us Case File # CAS 42'123809 and suggested we try Earnhardt Ford in Chandler, AZ. Chandler is 250 miles west of Deming which would be a 500 mile roundtrip. They do not provide appointments and work only on a 1st come 1st served basis with a 6-8 week wait after you leave your motorhome with them. We are fulltime RVer's and would need a place to stay for 2 months in a strange town while waiting for service. That was when we decided to find our own shop. We located the Midway Ford Truck Center in Kansas City, MO. Not only did they allow us to make an appointment, but a RV Park was less than a mile away. We made an appointment for Tuesday, May 9th at 8 am. At that time, we were informed that this appointment was for an inspection of the Rear Stabilizer only, and if it was determined the work needed to be done, parts would be ordered and installed at a later date. This was a surprise since the if original letter stated when parts became available we could make an appointment with our dealer where the faulty parts would be replaced. Unknown how far the slides may surge out, but I've talked to one owner, who said his slide came out 8 inches. Mine has come out about 4 inches, while parked and 2+ inches, while traveling/in-motion. A wiring harness, from the engine compartment is routed over the catalytic-converter, without a heatshield. Mine has been inspected and has this problem. One owner had his wiring catch fire and had to be towed off the highway. My unit lost power, on a warm day. I was driving up some small grades, on Hwy 101, along the CA coast and my engine produced only enough power to get me up to 43 mph, at an elevation of 600 ft. I took my RV to a Ford dealer, who told me that the sparkplug wires were in too weak and that they overheat, causing misfiring and a loss of power. This was unexpected and had I been traveling in the high speed lane, as I often do, with the sudden loss of power, it could have caused a pile up / rear-end collision, because it was almost like slamming on my brakes!

The contact owns a 2022 Tiffin RV built on a 2020 Ford F-53 Chassis. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's side living room slide out inadvertently extended to 2-3 inches. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving and while the RV was parked. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would send new arms or hydraulic pistons for the RV repair. The RV was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,500. Consumer stated Tiffin Motorhomes will be sending new Rams. The defective rams are allowing/causing the large slide to surge out while driving, or parking.

The Lippert front Slide system allows the "slide out" to come out all on it's own. This action allows the "slide out" to come 6-7 inches out away from the body of the motorhome. This is a major safety problem when this occurs while the motorhome is traveling down the highway. I'm aware of at least 50 other owners of 2021/2022 Tiffin Open Road that are experiencing this issue. I have not had the problem confirmed by a dealer since the closest dealer to me is over 300 miles away and it's not safe to drive it with the "slide out" coming out on it's own. There was no warning or any indication that this was going to happen other then other owners of the same motorhome informing me to be on the lookout for this to happen. When I put my motorhome into winter storage last nov, 1st 2021 there were no issues. When I went to take it out of storage last week, the problem was there. I retract the "slide out" and within a day or two, it creeps back out on it's own.
