At 70,000 miles I was just told my transmission id failing. After much research I am finding that this is a common issue with the Toyota CHR and CVT transmissions. Apparently Toyota is aware of this issue but has not issued a recall. I waited to buy this car for years and thought it would be my last car ever. I'm [XXX] and thought a Toyota would last. I just paid it off. You know and I know a transmission should last longer than this. I am so frustrated. Toyota needs to fix this without charge or at least at minimal costs. I am going to tell everyone I know to not buy Toyota anymore if this isn't recalled or fixed. I'm also going to write our President. Donald Trump needs to get involved. 2019 C-HR is experiencing transmission failure due to a faulty joint. Metal shavings flow into the fluid. Am being told I will need to replace the entire transmission. Toyota is fully aware of the issue with the failures occurring between 75,000 & 120,000 miles. My vehicle is at 107,000. Perfect maintenance record, never missed a service & all work done at the dealership where it was purchased. Research shows Toyota Canada acknowledged the issue & extended the warranty to cover it's customers. Toyota USA refuses to do the same. Estimate out of pocket for this known defect is $9900.00

Transmission, and I did requested an inspection and they are trying to charge me $10,000 USD to fix it. A failed transmission in a car can put you and other people at risk because it affects your ability to control the vehicle's speed and movement. I took my car to one of my trusted mechanic and he confirmed that transmission was on failure because the humming noise of it and because transmission on this type of cars (Toyota CHR 2019) had that type of issues. Nobody has inspected my car but my mechanic. No prior symptoms of the problem or warnings on my car, I noticed it was something wrong with my car just for the humming noise of the transmission.

- My 20218 C-HR has a hard jerk noise when accelerating from a stop sign. Transmission of the car is malfunctioning, took the car to Toyota Fort Worth and the diagnosed the issue to be a noise coming from the transmission. - Car can suddenly stop while driving it on the freeway, this can cause a serious accident and to myself and others. - There is a TSB related to K71, meaning that the manufacturer is aware of the issue. It is a known issue to them. - No warning sign

I was hearing a noise and took my car in. There is a faulty bearing in the CVT transmission. They can not replace the bearing alone, but have to replace the entire CVT transmission, over 9,000.00 cost. I have taken very good care of my car. I have not missed an oil change, tire rotation and have even had brake work done - because of good ownership responsibility. When looking into the issues with my car I saw MANY others are having the same issue. After research I came across a Toyota Service Bulletin that shows toyota is aware of the defect and still continued to sell the car. Service Bulletin TSB002418 was placed before my purchase. This is a default by the manufacture, and they should honor their product and correct.

This vechicle started getting noise since 2020 when it was below 60 thousand miles. It was reported to the dealer and the tech did not document well( as I know now). Car was in California from2021 to 2024 and same issues were reported and it was not documented or no action took. Car came to Illinois in 2025. Oil changes and other maintenance issues were done by Toyota and fire stone. I took the car for oil change to the dealer in June 2025 and again repoted the whining noise from engine area.dealer diagnosed with transmission issues and replacement recommended. Called Toyota and because the miles are 71000, they refused , although this was reported from2020. Dealer said that 2021 to 2025, car was not maintained in the Toyota facility , they do not know what went wrong, when I look at cars of this type from 2017 onwards, has transmission issues and no recalls done. There are cases Toyota repaired individually. Because , it is not documented by the tech in the facility, I have to pay 9 to 12 thousand dollars to replace the transmission. These types of cars have transmission issues and nothing is done on it or recalled. Needs help,

Bought a 2019 Toyota C-HR in 2021. Took it for regular oil changes, yearly inspection, etc. After only 4 years of owning the car and less than 80,000 miles put on the vehicle, I took the car to the mechanic for an oil change and to investigate a loud noise I was hearing when driving the car. Turns out the CVT transmission was irreparably damaged, requiring a whole new part to be bought. Had the car towed to a Toyota service center for the estimate and the piece cost $15,000. At that point why not get a new car? Car has been deemed undrivable until the transmission is fixed. No warning lights, or suggestion that anything was wrong beyond the sound. Have been told this is a specific problem to C-HR's made between 2017-2022 and that Toyota was possibly trialing a new CVT transmission in these vehicles without telling anyone.

I have been told the transmission is going out. After researching, I have seen this is a common problem with this year make and model of the vehicle.This should not be happening in a car that is a 2019. It is a safety hazard and frankly, it should be recalled in America as I have seen it was recalled in Canada for the same issues. My car is only six years old, so it shouldn't be giving me transmission problems. I always do my maintenance services on time. I'm not the first person to have the same issues with this car once it reaches a certain number of miles. I went to Toyota and they didn't even give me in option to fix it, they just said that I need to buy a new car. This car should be recalled because people don't buy a car just to last them a little while. On top of it, they can't even tell you exactly what's wrong with the transmission; they just know the means the transmission has a problem. About a year ago my car started to make a grinding noise when accelerating. I had taken it to the shop before to get inspection but was never notified about the problem until I had to report to them about the noise that I was hearing. It was then that they told me that my transmission was failing and would need to get it replaced soon. This is scary because for work I drive clients around and if tha transmission were ever to fail on me it could put them and myself at risk of a severe accident. I’m past my warranty and they had quoted me $10k for it which is way more than what I owe left on my car. It’s very unfortunate because I had planned to keep this car for the long term but now it’s looking like I will have to sell it. I’ve tried contacting Toyota about this problem but they said that they can’t do anything about it and I would have to pay out of pocket for it.

Component or system failed or malfunctioned: Pre-collision System Malfumcion. It is available for inspection upon request. Not sure how safety or the safety of others put at risk, The problem has not been reproduced, but has been confirmed by a dealer service center. I have a 2019 Toyota CH-R. My car is at about 100,000 miles. My vehicle started making a whirring noise after it exceeded 10mph. I took it into Toyota and they said my transmission needed to be replaced. My car has been maintained properly with scheduled maintenance. This was out of my control. After research, several others have had the same issue with their toyota CH-R. Toyota is quoting me (and others) at $12,700. It is a CVT transmission that is apparently “unique”. This is a safety issue as i am fearful the gears will slip at any moment as i am commuting to and from work. I have filed a claim with Toyota for financial assistance. After investigation they are only agreeing to help with half of the cost when it seems the issue is on Toyota’s end with this type of transmission and not the consumer’s. It is dangerous and impacting those who own this model of vehicle.

No warning lights presenting on dash board, my car started making a noise around 100k (almost like something was rubbing against the tire, think playing card in a bicycle spoke) and I thought maybe it was my loose splash guard causing it. No physical issues (gears up/down fine, no vibrations, no shimmy, no play in the steering). Took it to Dav Cava toyota dealership and was told i needed to replace both my transmission and torque converter. $10,500 estimate. That's more than i owe on the vehicle. I have kept oil changes since I've had it (bought used at around 65k miles). I bought toyota because they're a trusted brand. Imagine the stomach-turning disappointment when I was told I needed to come up with $10,500 when I work hard to pay the payments and general maintenance on this car! Checking the forums it seems I'm not the only one having this issue and as a single mom who desperately needs a break, I hope toyota checks these forums and sees that this is an issue that needs addressed!

This is unacceptable almost every CHR I have heard of has this same problem and Toyota refused to take responsibility for it! There transmissions in these cars are horrible and need to be addressed. Every 80k the transmission need to be replaced. Us people who continuously have to buy new cars or new transmissions are suffering because Toyota refuses to fix the issue. Instead they slide it under the rug and decline to help there customers.

Yesterday While I was driving down i270 in Maryland without any car around the car hit the break and made the emergency break sound as well as saying “BREAK” in the driver dash. This has happened ~5 times in the past 3 years or so. It’s pretty scary thinking how lucky I have been so far with no one rear ending me when it happens. Also, this has happened a few times while in adaptive cruise control as well.

The car's AC system made an audible hissing sound from within the cabin, I then smelled what I believe was refrigerant, 10 minutes later the hissing sound stopped and the AC won't work. This occurred when I was idling and was about to start driving. The fan still blows hot air, but will not cool. The car has not been checked by a dealer or independent service provider, due to insufficient funds, but is available to be inspected upon request. No issues prior to failure in March of 2023, mileage is just over 64,000.

Vehicle only has 40K miles and it has been giving me battery issues along with an engine spurring sound. Today suddenly, the vehicle gave me a warning message to "Pull over in a safe spot and to not drive the vehicle" along with other messages flashing "Braking power reduced" "Pre-collision system failure" and a bunch of lights came on. Mechanic, over the phone, said "He doesn't understand how a minor rear-bumper colission could affect sensors and electrical things in the front of the car. Another incident, last year, a small nick on one of the wires under the car disabled my entire car and it was undriveable until repaired. I am frustrated that one small issue with a wire, or sensor, or other small gadgety things in the vehicle can disable the entire car and put me in danger while driving.
