2014 Toyota Prius V West Sacramento, CA

While driving my 2014 Prius V it stalled. I turned it off and restarted it. The yellow car symbol with an exclamation point lit up. I turned the car on and off again. The light went away and I was able to drive home. I was unable to get any OBD 2 codes on my personal reader. I changed the 12 V battery and thought this had fixed the stalling. Then it stalled again and repeated the same process. Though we were able to drove the car I had it towed to a dealership for safety reasons. The dealership pulled codes, cleared them, drove the car 20 miles, and were unable to reproduce the codes. I was told to return when the codes returned. It stalled again and now I am afraid to drive this car.

2013 Toyota Prius V Palm Desert, CA Fire

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I had just dropped off my daughters at school. On my drive back home, this trip is roughly an 8 mile round trip distance . I heard (then saw) an explosion coming from the rear passenger side of the car. I noticed flames and proceeded to steer the car (car shutdown) towards a side street. Shortly after I was able to put car in park, making sure that it was out of any potential danger to others. I quickly jumped out of my car. This followed by a loss of fluids under the hood and smoke. After everything subsided I called a tow truck and had it towed to my home. It has been parked outside and I am so discombobulated about this whole incident that I do not know how/where to even began with the next step. I have no clue how this happened but what I do know is that by no means should a vehicle ever create a fire .

2014 Toyota Prius V Conway, AR

I was driving home from work on 10/14/22. The traffic was moving very slowly because there was a wreck ahead and emergency crews were on the scene. I was having to break often while moving at a slow speed. All of the sudden multiple dash warning lights came on the vehicle and the vehicle no longer responded to my breaking in a normal manner. I pulled off of the hwy and drove to my local dealership on a side road at a slower than normal speed. I told the dealership to check my car for the recall I remember getting in the mail a while back that mentioned the car trouble I was experiencing. I was told that the recall did not apply to me because my car was over 150,000 miles. The local dealership indicated they could not assist me with having Toyota honoring the recall past the specified mileage. I contacted the national Toyota number and was told the problem was included in a "customer support program" not an actual recall from Toyota and that Toyota would not pay to fix my vehicle since it was over 150,000 miles. I see that some people have filed a class action lawsuit against Toyota in this matter. I was told the Brake Booster needed to be replaced and also a break pump assembly would be required with an estimated cost of $2,500. The car is not safe to drive as it is right now. Toyota is aware of the problem and I guess put the "support program" in place to try and get around a forced government recall and also in turn put a cap on the mileage out of the reach of many vehicle owners. I would like the government to make Toyota actually recall the vehicles that have this problem and pay to fix my vehicle with this issue.

2014 Toyota Prius V at 215,000 miles Millbrae, CA Fire

Hi my name is [XXX]. Toyota headquarter case # [XXX] Incident day July 6, 2018 I had a big technical problem with my 2014 Toyota Prius V where it caught on fire because one of the valve lifters fell into the engine head and broke the engine block while driving. When that happened, the oil began to leak into the muffler and the engine and hybrid wiring immediately caught on fire. Many of my colleagues who also bought the same vehicle for Taxi business use in San Francisco all have a similar issue as mine. A few of theirs caught on fire, and a few others mentioned to me that the head gasket for their same Toyota vehicle blew out and each of them had to replace it at around 120,000 miles. I believe that’s why they don’t manufacture these same vehicles anymore because of the defectiveness in the engine. I opened a case with Toyota Manufacturer back in July 2018 and they sent a specialist to inspect the vehicle after the fire. He found the piece that fell inside the engine and that damaged the engine. The Toyota specialist admit to me that the engine of my 2014 Toyota vehicle is very defective and must be covered under warranty. My mechanic replaced the engine for me with a used one with 28,000 miles. This entire case was documented under my name with Toyota Motors Manufacture. I contacted the highway safety and I tried to file a claim against Toyota at the time, but I never got a follow up on my case after I left various messages. All they said was that they will investigate but never gave me any information regarding the engine fire situation or honor any warranty. I hope this incident will be investigated by your department and have this vehicle under recall. Thank you. MY HORN NO LONGER WORKS. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A FAULTY SPIRAL CABLE. ACCORDING TO INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET, THE SPIRAL CABLE ALSO PLAYS A ROLE IN THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER AIRBAG. THIS PART WAS UNDER A RECALL FOR VEHICLES A COUPLE OF YEARS PRIOR. I FEEL THAT IF THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE THEN IT SHOULD ALSO BE FIXED UNDER RECALL. THE DEALER PRICE TO FIX THIS IS OVER $800. I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH TOYOTA #210-128-2281, BUT THEY DON'T SEE IT AS A SAFETY CONCERN AND WILL NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE TO REMEDY THE FAULTY CABLE.

I PREVIOUSLY SENT IN A COMPLAINT BUT THERE HAVE BEEN DEVELOPMENTS AND I NEEDED TO EXPLAIN MORE CLEARLY. OUR TOYOTA HAS LESS THAN 18,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. DESPITE THIS, OUR VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE EARLIER THIS MONTH. IT STARTED BY FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS 2 WEEKS AGO AND THEN WOULDN'T START UP. SATURDAY WHEN I OPENED THE DRIVER DOOR TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE INOPERABLE VEHICLE, THIS INITIATED A VERY LENGTHY TERRIBLE SOUND COMING FROM UNDER HOOD ON DRIVER'S SIDE. IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WOULD EXPLODE UNDER THE HOOD. THIS HORRIBLE PROCESS APPEARANTLY DRAINED THE WHOLE BATTERY. IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS OF LIFE NOW. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.

OUR VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. THE BATTERY WORKS BUT THE VEHICLE FLASHES ALL KINDS OF WARNING LIGHTS AND WILL NOT START UP. WE BELIEVE THAT IT MAY BE DUE TO RODENTS AS TOYOTA DEALERSHIP POINTED OUT RODENT ISSUE IN CABIN AIR FILTER LAST TIME WE WENT THERE FOR SOME SAFETY RECALL. IT SEEMS TO BE A HUGE ISSUE WITH PRIUS AND WE WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT ONE HAD TOYOTA BEEN UPFRONT WITH THE RODENT ISSUES THAT THEY HAVE WITH THEIR VEHICLES. ARE THERE ANY RECALLS OR CLASS ACTION SUIT RELATED TO THIS RODENT ISSUE AND THEIR USING SOY BASED WIRING AND FAILING TO CLOSE UP RODENT ACCESS TO CABIN AIR FILTER ETC.? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!

ISSUE STARTED AFTER 2 YEARS, WHEN WET AND COLD AS I BACK UP AND PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, A VERY LOUD NOISE HEARD COMING FROM THE BACK? IT LASTS AS LONG AS I PUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL. EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS AT PETERSON TOYOTA DEALER LOCALLY, BUT THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT "IT'S NORMAL", COULD BE THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC BOOSTER SYSTEM? THE ISSUES STILL CONTINUE AS OF TODAY. I DO RECORD THE NOISE WHEN IT HAPPENS

VERY LOUD , ROUGH, ALMOST PULSATING ENGINE NOISE AT LOW SPEED (ABOUT 20 MILES OR LESS), AFTER THE CAR BEING DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES, THE WEATHER WAS ABOUT 35-40 DEGREES OUTSIDE IN THE MORNING. ROUGH ENGINE RUNNING LASTS FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTES, IT HAPPED 4 TIMES IN JAN/20 AND FEB/20. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE, DEALER REFUSED TO SCAN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, UNLESS I PAID $189 FEE.

11/15/19 ORIGINALLY THE CAR SHOWED BRAKE, ABS, ANTISKID AND ENGINE IDIOT LIGHTS WENT TO THE DEALER WITH A CODE C1391. THEY SAID I NEED TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE POWER BOOSTER FOR $2600. THEN THEY SAID IT WAS POLICY TO ALSO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY FOR AN ADDITIONAL $2,000 OR A TOTAL OF $4600. AFTER I COMPLAINED THAT THEY HAD RECALLED 972,000 OTHER PRIUS BUT DIDN'T INCLUDE THE PRIUS V THEY SAID I ONLY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND POWER BOOSTER AND SAID THEY WOULD DO IT FOR $1,516.89. SO THEN I GO TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TODAY 12/4/19 AND WHILE SITTING THERE THE IDIOT LIGHTS ALL TURN OFF AND THE BRAKE START TO FUNCTION NORMALLY OWN ITS OWN... I ASK THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WHAT HIS THOUGHTS WERE AND HE SAID I SHOULD STILL MAKE THE REPAIRS, BUT HE COULDN'T SAY WHAT THEY WOULD DO IT CAME BACK. SO I'M GOING TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR A WEEK TO SEE. WHILE I'M WAITING CAN YOU PLEASE DO A RECALL ON THE BRAKE PUMP ASSEMEBLY SINCE THESE FOLKS DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH THIS CAR. IT APPEARS ITS NOT EITHER DEVICE AND ITS A COMPUTER GLITCH THAT THEY HAVEN'T RESOLVED...HELP US PRIUS OWNERS PLEASE!!!

MY 2012 PRIUS V STARTED SHOWING THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR BRAKES, ABS, ANTI-SKID AND ENGINE LIGHTS. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A REGULAR ROAD. BRAKES STILL WORK BUT FEEL SPONGY. SCANNED FOR CODES AND IT SAYS C1391 WHICH REQUIRES REPLACING ALL THE MAIN BRAKE COMPONENTS. THE COST IS OVER $3000 BECAUSE SO MANY PARTS INVOLVED. THERE'S SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A RECALL FOR OTHER MODELS OF PRIUS BUT THE 'V' NOT INCLUDED. MANY V OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. ALL THE PARTS SHOWN IN THE ATTACHED PICTURE NEED TO BE REPLACE CAUSE TOYOTA DOESN'T KNOW OR CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHERE THE PROBLEM IS. CAR ONLY HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT

ON 09/19/2019 KEY WEST TOYOTA COMPLETED THE TIRES CHANGE OF MY VEHICLE AS I REQUESTED. IN ADDITION, KEY WEST TOYOTA PERFORMED "107649 J0V RECALL J0V01B 0.70 UPDATE TO THE POWER MANAGEMENT ECU WITH NEW SOFTWARE" AS SHOWING ON THE INVOICE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, ON FRIDAY 09/20/2019, WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRAFFIC, PUTTING MY LIFE AND SAFETY AT RISK AND MY HEATH AND GENERAL WELL-BEING. I SENT BACK THE VEHICLE TO KEY WEST TOYOTA, AND SINCE THEN THE ISSUE IS UNRESOLVED, AND I AM NOT EVEN ABLE TO REACH ANYONE ON THE PHONE OR THROUGH THE EMAIL I SENT FROM KEY WEST TOYOTA WEBSITE "CONTACT US".

ON JUNE 5TH, 2019, I TOOK MY CAR IN TO ROUND ROCK TOYOTA AND THEY PERFORMED THE 2018 TOYOTA PRIUS V RECALL FIX. SINCE THEN, MY MPG HAS GONE FROM AN AVERAGE OF 41 MILES PER GALLON, WHICH HAS STAYED CONSISTENT SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW IN JUNE 2012, DOWN TO 32 MPG. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO ROUND ROCK TOYOTA FOR A DIAGNOSIS ON SEPT 30, 2019 AND THEY SAID THAT THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES, AND THAT MY NOW GREATLY REDUCED 32 MPG FELL WITHIN TOYOTA STANDARDS. I AM WRITING TO FILE A COMPLAINT THAT THEIR 2018 RECALL FOR THE TOYOTA PRIUS V HAS A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE REVISITED OR THE VEHICLES SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD. I AM CO-FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE EPA AS WELL.
