Driver Assist & Collision Avoidance across every Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport year
On August 5, 2026, my 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport received the remedy for Volkswagen Recall 91TV, NHTSA Recall 26V473, involving rearview-camera software. The vehicle was returned to me on August 11. On August 17, while I was actively reversing in a parking lot, the rearview-camera image froze on the center display. The image remained visible but stopped updating even though the vehicle continued moving backward. Because the displayed image no longer accurately represented what was occurring behind the moving vehicle, I nearly struck a pedestrian. No collision or injury occurred. This was the first time I had ever experienced the rearview camera freezing. Before Recall 91TV was performed, the rearview camera had operated normally when the vehicle was placed in reverse. I have had a separate front parking-camera/360-degree Area View problem since the vehicle was new. When pulling forward into a parking space, the camera interface activates automatically, but the live front/Area View image remains black until I manually press the camera control. That problem existed before Recall 91TV and also remains unresolved after the recall remedy. I am distinguishing these conditions because the front/Area View problem is longstanding, while the frozen rearview-camera image was a new failure that occurred after the recall remedy. I am reporting the sequence because the failure occurred 12 days after the recall remedy was performed by VW, while the vehicle was actively reversing, and resulted in a frozen image that no longer represented the area behind the moving vehicle, contributing to a near miss with a pedestrian.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING
VW sent an over-the-air remote tech update on 8/8/206. Once the update was completed and the system rebooted, the rearview backup camera and cross-traffic safety system are no longer working. We tried a system reset, which did not work, and we tried a hard reset ( car was outside - doors locked and car off for 20 minutes+). Tried to get an appointment, and the dealer pushed us out 3+ weeks—this is unacceptable for a safety system issue. In addition, VW has not completed the engine cover repair/recall even though your system shows no open recalls, which is strange and unsettling. Is VW hiding recall repairs or marking them complete when not done ???

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
Repeated sensors go off simultaneously, brake assist, lane assist, rear brake maneuver assist and the infotainment system will reboot altogether causing the entire system to reboot and black out. The screen has not come on at times and and entire system will reboot. The vehicle has been to Hendrick dealership in [XXX] multiple times and has not been repaired and they keep saying they can’t replicate the problem, even though I have photos and video of the incidents. I have also documented when the malfunctions occur. I due have an attorney. Volkswagen is claiming the car is functioning properly, but the same problems keep occurring with no solution to the problem. This is a major safety concern and this is my only vehicle to drive. I have a lot of photos and all work orders, I can’t upload everything due to limited files that can be uploaded. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The malfunction involves the windshield wiper control system, including the rain-sensing activation module and associated control software. The system activates windshield wipers without any driver input under dry and clear conditions. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. Safety was compromised due to sudden and uncommanded wiper activation occurring during active driving conditions, including highway and nighttime operation. This results in temporary loss of visibility as the windshield is smeared by debris, requiring driver distraction to manually control or disable the system while operating the vehicle in traffic. Initial complaints regarding this issue were made by [XXX] during dealership service visits; however, those concerns were not consistently documented in the official repair records at the time they were reported and were initially dismissed or not formally recorded by service personnel until later intervention ensured the issue was entered verbatim on the service order. The issue has been reported and addressed during multiple dealership service visits; however, the condition has not been reliably reproduced and permanently corrected by the dealer despite documented repair attempts, including sensor replacement and manufacturer-level software (ODIS) updates. The malfunction has persisted after these interventions. The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Volkswagen dealership service department. No inspection has been conducted by police, insurance representatives, or independent third parties. No consistent warning lamps or dashboard messages were present prior to the failure. The activation occurs unpredictably and without prior warning indicators. The issue first appeared intermittently at lower mileage and has continued through recent operation. The defect persists after multiple repairs and manufacturer intervention, indicating an uncorrectable electronic system failure causing an unresolved safety risk. This vehicle, since January of 2025, has a screen that flickers and shuts off entirely multiple times per day. Sometimes, it is severe enough that the entire computer system shuts down and none of the safety features are available, such as collision warning, automatic braking, etc.. You also cannot control the heat or see the backup camera because of the screen being broken. This is a persistent issue that VW has no permanent solution for. The car has been in the shop multiple times for multiple weeks attempting a repair, but even the dealer has said to start the buyback process because they have dozens of people with the same issue.

am writing to formally report a serious safety issue with my Volkswagen Atlas. The SOS system is malfunctioning, and as a result, I am unable to use cruise control. The vehicle is displaying system errors, and I have been informed that this issue affects multiple driver-assistance features. This malfunction creates a dangerous driving condition. The SOS system is intended for emergency assistance, and its failure raises concerns about whether emergency services would be contacted in the event of an accident. Additionally, the loss of cruise control impacts safe operation, particularly during highway driving. Given that this is a safety-related system, I believe this issue requires immediate attention and resolution. Please advise: Whether this issue is covered under warranty If there are any known recalls or service bulletins related to this malfunction What steps will be taken to correct the problem promptly I request that this matter be treated as urgent due to the safety risks involved. I expect a timely response and a clear plan for repair.

Despite repeated repair attempts, months-long delays due to unavailable parts, and providing dealership technicians with clear video/audio evidence, authorized Volkswagen dealerships failed to properly diagnose/document defects causing severe safety hazards. My vehicle continues to suffer from persistent braking defects, defective sensors resulting in sensor failures, recurring software safety malfunctions from recall-related defects and safety hazards. Charges Related to repairs/replacements for Defective Sensors, Alignment Calibration for safety-assist systems & Software Safety Issues: Engine Cover (Battery adjacent), Engine Damage/Stalling, Untorqued Chassis/Brake/Suspension Bolts, Brake Master Cylinder, Passenger Air Bag Defect, Back Over Prevention / Camera., infotainment, software/engine safety issues. These charges stem directly from defects/malfunctions causing severe safety hazards associated with systemic recall-affected vehicle components. These severe defects have substantially impaired the use, value, and safety of my vehicle. Texas law requires a true remedy, replacing a defective vehicle with another year/model known to have the exact same safety recalls does not resolve the problem or cures the defect. Therefore, a replacement vehicle with ongoing systemic recalls across multiple safety systems with 2024–2025 Atlas Cross Sport models including braking, chassis bolt torque, camera visibility, engine cover fire risk, and airbag defects is not an acceptable remedy. Volkswagen’s failure to repair, dismiss complaints, and refusal to document safety defects constitute a material breach of warranty, breach of contract, fraudulent concealment, and fraudulent conduct under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and Federal laws. Waiting several months for parts due to recalls/defects, increasing hazards, and safety risks place me and my special needs child in grave danger creating extreme anxiety and fear of driving our vehicle.

The infotainment center on my 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport went fully dead today. I reached out to VW and this is apparently a widespread issue. Along with the infotainment being dead, many of the safety systems are down, and without access to the screen I have no access to the backup camera. I am unable to adjust the climate control as well.

I was driving on the interstate at 70 MPH with the cruise set when my brakes dropped my speed to 50 MPH without me touching the brake pedal. The only notice that came up was sharp turn and 50 MPH. The highway was straight and the exit had a 50mph exit speed. The car behind me had to change lanes quick to avoid me. I was in my lane and far enough not to read the exit sign. This is the third time this has happened, and VW dealer couldn't find anything wrong. They said to turn off the ADAS systems and not use them. This is not a fix just masking the problem.

I had the safety recall for the info system display fixed/updated on June 14, 2025. I have had no issues with the screen being distorted since up until this afternoon. I just came to turn my car on and the screen is distorted again, like how tvs used to look in the 80s if your antenna wasn’t in the right place. It is impacting the view when reversing. No lights or warnings prior to, and my car has been parked in the shade with the weather only 77 degrees today

Rear view camera visibility failure from Infotainment system reboots. Car undergoes frequent infotainment center reboots, which causes a loss of rearview camera video feed and loss of several assistance systems, such as the rear pedestrian cross walk warning system until the reboot finishes. Has occurred multiple times while backing up, Reboots have been documented from 3 times and up to 37 times during the same 19 mile / 40 minute drive home, on different days. There has been multiple near collisions from this.

my vehicle has a safety issue that is tied to the NAV system and its interaction with the vehicles drivers assist functions. Multiple times while driving the vehicle, the NAV system would decide the vehicle was on a different road than it was actually on. The first time it happened; I was on the freeway traveling at 70 MPH when the NAV system decided I was on a residential street several miles away with a 25 MPH speed limit. The vehicle immediately adjusted to what it thought was the posted speed. To be more specific, the vehicle slammed on the brakes and went from 70 MPH to 25 MPH quite aggressively. Luckily, no one slammed into me as I regained control of the vehicle. This has happened multiple times on different roads, different speeds, with or without using the NAV system for guidance. I have found that turning off all of the drivers assist functions stops the vehicle from slamming on the brakes but the NAV system still occasionally goes nuts. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership 3 separate times with no joy. The dealership has been unable to duplicate the defect to date however the last time in I was able to provide video evidence of the issue. The dealership did provide me (on 14 April this year) a copy of an older memo from Volkswagen identifying a potential NAV issue. According to the memo the issue should have been taken care of by Aug 2024. My issue extends well beyond that date. Of concern to me is the fact VW knew there was an issue but failed to tell the consumer to turn off the Adaptive Cruise Controls functions until this issue was fixed. As my vehicle still has the issue, I don't know if it's related to the memo or something different. I've attached the last 2 workorders, vehicle is still at dealership for 3rd time. I also attached the document I provided the service writer the first time I dropped the vehicle off. Also attached is the VW memo on the NAV system

Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. Did not see or hear any object strike windshield. Began as a 6 inch crack from roof to rearview mirror and crack continues to spread and extend across windshield without any cause. The weather has been warm and no frost or cold yet crack grows 3 inches a day. Windshield wipers do not come on, collision warning goes off for no reason but does not go off when I was nearly hit headon, driver assist and lane departure does not work at all. I attempted to get Volkswagen dealership to repair for warranty and extended "Platinum Protection" plan but they refused. I have filed an insurance claim with my carrier.
