As a result, the wiring could become damaged and cause the airbags not to work properly in a crash. Note: This problem would cause an airbag system warning message to display on the instrument panel. This is an expansion of recall 185 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-300). Safety Risk: An airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Winnebago will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorhome to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, re-route the seat wiring harness. If damage is found, the wiring harness will be repaired or replaced, as necessary.

Issue: On certain motorhomes, the wheel bolts for the spare tire may not have been included. As a result, you would not be able to install the spare tire correctly. If this happens, the spare tire could separate from the vehicle. Safety Risk: A wheel separation could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could create a hazard for others. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Winnebago advises that you shouldn't use the spare tire until the recall repairs are completed. Winnebago will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact Winnebago directly or a dealership to provide you with the correct wheel bolts and wrench for installing the spare tire.

NOTE: The VIN shows as a 4x2 Sprinter, but this vehicle is a 4x4. While driving, the engine suddenly caught fire. Within one minute, flames approximately 10 feet high were coming from the motor. This is the second Winnebago Ekko reported to catch fire in such a dramatic way. One fire extinguisher was not enough to put out the blaze. The fire was extremely intense and caused catastrophic damage. The vehicle is currently at Mercedes awaiting inspection. However, more than three weeks have passed and the inspection has not yet been scheduled. Mercedes will not allow anyone else to examine the vehicle, and they have not responded to my emails. I am requesting an independent inspection, as I am concerned Mercedes may seek to avoid accepting liability. Can anyone help with that? I am not sure what to do.

The contact owns a 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, however, the RV failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact noticed a burning odor in the interior of the RV. The RV was driven to the shoulder of the road. The contact and the contact's husband exited the RV. The contact stated that the RV burst into flames. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The contact stated that a fire report was filed. The RV was towed to a tow yard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that Winnebago is scheduled to complete an inspection in the next few days. The failure mileage was approximately 4,400.

Beginning in October 2025, the Kwikee electric retractable side steps on my Winnebago Ekko began deploying spontaneously while the vehicle was being driven at highway speeds. The steps are designed to retract automatically upon the vehicle being placed in gear and to deploy only when the vehicle side access door is opened via magnetic reed switch. The failure mode observed is the inverse of intended behavior: steps extend and retract outward while the vehicle is actively in motion, without any door opening event. The issue was first documented in October 2025 and formally reported to La Mesa RV, my authorized Winnebago warranty service center, beginning in November 2025. The vehicle has been returned to service a total of five (5) times for this identical complaint. Individual components have been replaced (door open reed switch, wiring for switch, and control board), but the failure has recurred following each repair. To date, no repair attempt has resolved the root cause, and the behavior continues creating a safately concern for this vehicle, other vehicles on the road, and pedestrians. Safety Consequences: The deployed steps extend beyond the vehicle's body profile, creating a physical road hazard capable of striking curbs, guardrails, adjacent vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians at speed. At highway speeds, a deployed step represents a significant aerodynamic and structural load not intended by the manufacturer, risking step detachment and road hazard. The driver has no reliable warning that deployment has occurred, meaning the hazard may go undetected for an extended period while driving. Other motorists and pedestrians cannot anticipate or predict the presence of an extended step on an otherwise moving vehicle. Component / System Involved: Lippert Kwikee electric side step system, including the step control module, door trigger switches, and retraction motor assemblies. Wiring should include an ignition interlock preventing deployment while in gear.

The Winnebago Ekko recall 200 (dually valve stem replacement) is completely unreasonable. It has turned my rig from one where I could easily check and maintain my inner dually tire pressure to one that is extremely difficult and requires specialized tools (and extended tire inflation wand). As a result, it is practically impossible for me to maintain proper tire inflation and impossible for me to solve pressure issues on the road (since most gas stations don't have an extended inflation wand). The Winnebago fix violates 49 U.S.C. § 30120(a) in that it swaps one safety defect (leaking valve stem) for another (improperly inflated tires). Proper remedies for this issue are either: (1) redesigned valve stem that allows for proper tire inflation, or (2) replacement wheels that have a proper dually valve stem setup.

Tires on this Winnebago EKKO 23B 2025 model year, purchased in April 2024 are the original tires, never removed or repaired. These tires are Hankook Dynapro AT2X all terrain tires, size LT215/85R/16. These tires have only 10,600 miles and from the photos you can see the tread is in excellent condition. The tires have a TPMS that showed accurrate recommended PSI before our trip from New Hampshire. Road conditions were clear, temperature in the mid-70s on Saturday, October 4th. We had traveled only 117 miles when the rear outside dual tire on the passenger side failed. No warning. A side wall blow out (see photos). We were able to pull into a gas station in Williston VT. Tire technician from local Town Fair Tire changed the tire to the spare and confirmed an unusual side wall blow out as pictured. All tires on this motorhome are the original and identical tires, with the exception of the driver's side rear outside dual tire which was replaced with an identical tire after the failure I reported in April of this year (VOQ#11657901). There were no warning sounds or TPMS signals before this most recent failure or the earlier one in April 2024.

This happened four times, including twice when attempting to pull out from stops, which could have resulted in a collision if traffic had been present—imagine suddenly stalling in an intersection with family aboard. The problem resolved at lower elevations (below 2,000 feet) or when maintaining higher RPMs before charging initiated, but it was reproducible every time the conditions were met at altitude. Despite diagnostics at a Mercedes-Benz dealership , where systems were cleared and no faults found (suspecting the Winnebago-installed secondary alternator), and repairs at the Winnebago Factory Service Center in Forest City, IA , where the Wakespeed regulator was unnecessarily replaced and the issue blamed on Mercedes (suggesting an unsubstantiated "learning mode" at elevation), the root cause remains unaddressed. Tire sidewall separated from the rim without any incident trauma. There have been a number of reports of Dynapro AT2 tire failures on Winnebago EKKO. The temperature of the tire was alerted to be high just before the failure. I was able to be parked immediately upon that TPMs warning so an accident was avoided. The tire is a Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme 215/85R/16. All tires were properly inflated and recorded correct PSI and temperatures on my TPMS before driving the 100 miles before the tire failure occurred. Outside temperatures were in the low 60s with some light rain intermittent. This was a highway drive, no back roads. NH to MA on major roadways.

Short Answer: Winnebago has not conformed to its obligations with respect to NHTSA Safety Recall # 24V-541 (Winnebago # 186). Our 2025 EKKO 23B was within the scope of NHTSA Safety Recall # 24V-541 (Winnebago # 186). Winnebago did not offer to us a remedy -- other than to disable for an indeterminate length of time the solar charging system to which the recall applies -- within a reasonable time of their discovery and announcement of the recall. Accordingly, we paid for a remedial installation that, in the opinion of the expert in solar charging systems who made the installation, rendered the previously unsafe system safe for use. When Winnebago finally published its proposed remedy, we timely exercised our option to seek reimbursement for the work we'd already commissioned to have the problem cured. Winnebago assigned "case number" 00* * * * 27 to our request. On November 21, 2024, we submitted detailed information to Winnebago in support of our request. On December 17, 2024, Winnebago's customer service representative informed us that Winnebago would not reimburse us for any part of the expenses we had incurred to cure the safety issues addressed in the this recall. To the best of our knowledge, Winnebago denied our request without having physically inspected the replacement system that we installed. We have attached to this complaint most of the documents that we provided to Winnebago by email and hard copy on 11/21/2024. We believe that Winnebago is factually and legally obligated to reimburse us to the extent of our 11/21/2024 request. We assert that Winnebago is not in compliance with its obligations to NHTSA and to us. We object to Winnebago's denial of our request and respectfully suggest that the NHTSA open an investigation into the adequacy of Winnebago's obligations with respect to NHTSA Safety Recall # 24V-541 (Winnebago # 186).

On December 17, 2024, Winnebago's customer service representative informed us that Winnebago would not reimburse us for any part of the expenses we had incurred to cure the safety issues addressed in the this recall. To the best of our knowledge, Winnebago denied our request without having physically inspected the replacement system that we installed. We have attached to this complaint most of the documents that we provided to Winnebago by email and hard copy on 11/21/2024. We believe that Winnebago is factually and legally obligated to reimburse us to the extent of our 11/21/2024 request. We assert that Winnebago is not in compliance with its obligations to NHTSA and to us. We object to Winnebago's denial of our request and respectfully suggest that the NHTSA open an investigation into the adequacy of Winnebago's obligations with respect to NHTSA Safety Recall # 24V-541 (Winnebago # 186).

ENGINE

The contact owns a 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, however, the RV failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact noticed a burning odor in the interior of the RV. The RV was driven to the shoulder of the road. The contact and the contact's husband exited the RV. The contact stated that the RV burst into flames. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The contact stated that a fire report was filed. The RV was towed to a tow yard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that Winnebago is scheduled to complete an inspection in the next few days. The failure mileage was approximately 4,400.

The solar panels on this RV are wired to the solar controller through a 30amp fuse. The fuse holder gets extremely hot during peak solar charging in the afternoon. In order to inspect the 30amp fuse I removed it and it appears to be partially burnt. I am concerned about the heat that is generated at this fuse and fuse holder and I am aware of other Winnebago Ekkos reporting similar findings. I will leave the fuse removed until further notice from Winnebago.

the fuse behind the Zamp solar controller on our 25 Ekko 23B melted and caused a fire inside the cabinet above the fridge. This resulted in significant damage to the solar controller, wires and the cabinet itself. Not to mention the strong and persistent smoke smell inside the vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The 30amp electrical fuse connecting the solar panels to the Zamp 40amp controller melted. Lichtsinn Motors, the dealer, was notified and sent pictures of melted fuse. CoachNet technical support was also called, spoke with technician and pictures of melted fuse sent. Detailed message left with Winnebago. Customer service agent said Sept 13th was the notification date for the recall however they have no solution yet.
