NHTSA RECALL 19V547 -- I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE WITH MY 2017 AUDI A4 IN WHICH THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM HAS BECOME FAULTY. AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE, MY PASSENGER AIR BAG WILL SHUT OFF AS IT IS NOT DETECTING A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE EVEN WHEN ONE IS PRESENT. I CONTACTED MY AUDI DEALER WHO TOLD ME THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. THIS WAS OVER A MONTH AGO AND REMAINS AN ISSUE. WITH NO OTHER FORM OF TRANSPORTATION, WE ARE FORCED TO DRIVE A CAR WITHOUT A PASSENGER AIR BAG INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A SERIOUS RISK TO OUR FAMILY. I BROUGHT THIS UP AGAIN TO OUR DEALER, THEY INFORMED ME THAT IF I WANTED TO TRADE THIS VEHICLE IN, THEY WOULD GIVE ME A $500 ALLOWANCE TOWARDS A NEW CAR. THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND EVEN NOW THEY WILL NOT SCHEDULE MY CAR FOR SERVICE AS THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO SUPPORT THE REPAIR. THIS IS A MAJOR RISK TO MY FAMILY. IT OCCURS RANDOMLY DURING MOTION. AT EVEN 30 MPH A COLLISION WOULD RENDER MY PASSENGER UNPROTECTED. I AM NOT SURE WHAT I CAN DO RIGHT NOW TO KEEP THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V547000 (AIR BAGS). AUDI OF STEVENS CREEK (3350 STEVENS CREEK BLVD, SAN JOSE, CA 95117, (408) 215-9341) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
NHTSA complaint #11245827 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I BELIEVE THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS RECALL #18V370000 BUT MY CAR IS NOT IN LIST OF RECALLED CARS. WITH AN ADULT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, A WARNING MESSAGE SAYS THAT THE BECAUSE OF A MALFUNCTION, THE AIR BAGS ARE TURNED OFF. A FEW SECONDS TO A MINUTE OR TWO LATER ANOTHER MESSAGE SAYS THE AIR BAGS ARE ON. THIS SEQUENCE CAN APPEAR MANY TIMES IN AN HOUR OF DRIVING OR NOT APPEAR AT ALL FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I HAVE VERIFIED WITH THE DEALER THAT WHEN THE MESSAGE SAYS THE AIRBAGS ARE OFF, THEY REALLY ARE OFF. SO MY PASSENGER SOMETIMES LACKS THE PROTECTION AFFORDED BY THE AIR BAGS.
NHTSA complaint #11205256 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON IN DASH AND CHIME CONTINUOUSLY GOES OFF AT VARIOUS TIMES (WHILE STATIONARY OR DRIVING) - WITH OR WITHOUT PASSENGER IN SEAT. BROUGHT CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE 'RE-HARNESSED'. ALSO STATED THAT UNTIL THE REPAIR IS DONE THE LIGHT AND CHIME WILL CONTINUE GOING OFF AND THE AIRBAG IS AT RISK OF NOT DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT. I AM OUTSIDE OF MY WARRANTY AND IT IS NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT WILL COST ABOUT $300 TO FIX.
NHTSA complaint #11183314 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON OCTOBER 11, 2018 IN BALTIMORE CITY. ANOTHER CAR MADE AN ILLEGAL LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I HAD THE GREEN LIGHT AND MY CAR HIT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE OTHER CAR. I WAS GOING AT LEAST 30 MILES/HR AND HAD NO OPPORTUNITY TO BRAKE OR SWERVE. MY CAR WAS DISABLED, THERE WAS ENGINE OIL LEAKING AND THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED DURING THIS ACCIDENT. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO AUDI USA AND RECEIVED A COMPLAINT # 181561250 THE CAR IS NOW AT GERBER COLLISION & GLASS IN JESSUP, MARYLAND.
NHTSA complaint #11140093 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
TAKATA RECALL OR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 14V66700 I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT JULY 13 2018. MY CAR'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, 3 OTHER CARS INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY. FIREMAN AT THE SCENE TOLD ME "THERE IS A RECALL ON YOUR CAR, DID YOU KNOW?" MY MARKET VALUATION REPORT AS MY CAR WAS TOTALED, STATES THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS CAR. IT STATES DUE TO AN IMPROPER ALGORITHM IN THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE, IF A CRASH NECESSITATES DEPLOYMENT OF THE SIDE AIRBAGS, A SECOND IMPACT TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE MAY NOT COMMAND THE FRONT AIR BAGS TO ALSO DEPLOY AND AS A CONSEQUENCE FURTHER STATES, IF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DO NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A SECONDARY IMPACT TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF OCCUPANT INJURY. TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY AND YOU COULD CLEARLY SEE BRAKE LIGHTS AND THE SLOWING OF TRAFFIC FOR QUITE A DISTANCE. I TRAVEL THIS AREA REGULARLY AND AM AWARE OF THE CONSTRUCTION THAT CAUSES TRAFFICE TO SLOW. THE TRUCK AHEAD OF ME STOPPED, I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR BEHIND ME STOPPED THEN A A CAR HIT ME FROM BEHIND, MY CAR WAS PUSHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE A CAR LENGTH AHEAD OF ME. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, MY HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. MY CAR WAS ALSO PUSHED SIDEWAYS INTO THE CONCRETE DIVIDER. WHEN I READ THE RECALL, IT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED IN MY CAR. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED OCTOBER 28, 2014. WHY DID THEY NOT DEPLOY? PLEASE ADVISE AS THIS WAS A SERIOUS SITUATION AND I AM DEALING WITH A BRAIN INJURY. THERE WAS A FATALITY AS WELL. *TT *DT

LATELY THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL COME AN AND I WILL GET A MESSAGE SAYING "SAFETY MALFUNCTION", I AM TAKING IT BY THE SHOP TOMORROW, BUT JUST IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM, IT WILL BE IDENTIFIED. WE WERE DRIVING AND IT CAME ON, THEN WENT OFF THEN CAME BACK ON. ALSO THE IDENTIFY UP BY THE LIGHTS WERE GOING BETWEEN PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF AND ON, AND MY WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.
