NHTSA investigations into the 2007 BMW 750LI

An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2007 BMW 750LI

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

United States — NHTSA

17V328000

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2005-2008 745i, 745Li, 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li, and B7 Alpina vehicles equipped with both the Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options. In these vehicles, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open.

Risk: The door may unexpectedly open due to road or driving conditions or occupant contact with the door. The sudden opening may result in occupant ejection or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

13V564000

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION

BMW of North America LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2006 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi sedans and 325xi sports wagons, model year 2007 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi sedans and 328i and 328xi sports wagons, model year 2006-2007 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, 550i sedans and 530xi sports wagons, model year 2006 760i sedans, model year 2006-2007 750i, 750Li, and 760Li sedans, and model year 2006 X5 sports activity vehicles, equipped with certain seat types. The front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure.

Risk: Should the system fail, in the event of a crash, the front passenger air bag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of personal injury.

12V504000

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

BMW is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 7-Series vehicles, equipped with both Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options, and manufactured August 23, 2004, through September 3, 2007. Due to a software problem, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open.

Risk: The door may unexpectedly open due to road or driving conditions or occupant contact with the door. The sudden opening may result in occupant ejection or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

12V502000

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

BMW is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 7-Series vehicles, equipped with the Comfort Access option, and manufactured August 23, 2004, through July 24, 2008. The affected vehicles have an electronic key and an electronic connection between the gear shifter and the transmission (shift-by-wire) that automatically shifts the transmission to Park when the driver presses the Start/Stop button to shutdown the engine. If the driver presses the engine Start/Stop button 2 or 3 times within a short time interval, the system may shift the transmission to Neutral rather than Park. If using the electronic key (Comfort Access mode), there would be no protection from the ignition interlock that prevents key removal if the vehicle is not in Park.

Risk: If the driver exits the vehicle with the transmission in Neutral and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may rollaway. Unattended rollaway incidents often result in a crash or cause injury to pedestrians attempting to stop or enter the vehicle or to other bystanders in the path of the vehicle.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

It is available for inspection! 2) For the obvious reason: unable to determine all safety measures such as speed, driving safety such as gas level, warning signals etc.! 3) The problem was the result of numerous visits to the dealership regarding the rain leaking into the car. Which they said they were unable to find a leak or leaks. Advised the of possible recall re: car latch issues where the water leaks into the car via trunk etc. They finally realized their error. But failed to repair. Said it was a recall issue. 4) As mentioned...Has been inspected numerous times by the dealership in Willoughby, OH! 5) Of course there were warning signs that there was a problem or would eventually be a problem when water starts getting into your car: when it shouldn't (doors closed, windows up sunroof closed etc. However, as I said previously, the dealership inspected the car enough times to find what the problem was and avoid the damage cause: (UNLESS IT IS/WAS AN ISSUE THAT WARRANT A RECALL OF THE CAR'S SEALING, SUNROOF, LATCH ETC. THAT WAS DEFFECTIVE!!! NOTE: The dealership indicated that the water was getting in to the car, but couldn't stop it from getting in didn't have the knowledge to fix? THE TRANSMISSION FAULT ERROR CAME ON AND I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A MINUTE AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE. IT DID THIS ONE MORE TIME BEFORE REACHING HOME. THEN THE FOLLOWING DAY ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE IT AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN REVERSE IT JUMPED BACK INTO PARK. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AS I HAD READ THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR BMW'S WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I HAVE SINCE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF OTHER BMW SAME YEAR AND MODEL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER JUST SAID IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER A RECALL AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE CARS AGE ISN'T WORTH THE VALUE OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION SO I HAVE THE CAR PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND CANNOT DRIVE IT. BMW NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THERE ARE PLENTY OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
