The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was making a clunking sound. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the rear draft shaft center bearing was not moving freely as the front shaft. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not under recall and could not be repaired free of charge. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the VIN should have been included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V281000 (Power Train); because of the similarities in the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,628.

While driving on the highway with my 14-year-old child as a passenger, the vehicle began shaking/jerking and losing power. I activated hazard lights and exited; the car continued to struggle and is now parked due to safety concerns. O’Reilly scan P0304 (Cylinder 4 misfire). This occurred 12,703 miles after a dealer-performed tune-up (spark plugs x6) at Cable Dahmer CDJR (Kansas City, MO). Same-day after that service I returned, reported drivability issues, and the dealer claimed ‘no problem.’ In Feb 2025 they recommended spark plugs again; in March 2025 management emailed that my ‘tune-up appears it hasn’t been done yet’ (contradicting the invoice). The dealer now refuses to treat this as a continuation without a $199 diagnostic. Vehicle is not being driven due to safety concerns.-Engine/Ignition System-cylinder 4 misfire (spark plug/coil) causing loss of power at highway speed

“Following a $4,960 transmission repair at Cable Dahmer Chrysler Dodge (July 10,2024), my vehicle has experienced serious safety concerns: 1. Immediate transmission performance issues after dealer service 2. Vehicle now diagnosed with : Oil leaking over transmission bell housing Transmission slipping Improper shifting, especially in reverse Loose engine mount These issues create unsafe driving conditions as the vehicle: May not shift properly during critical driving situations Could potentially stall or lose power while driving Has compromised transmission function Shows signs of potential transmission failure The dealership dismissed these safety concerns when reported immediately after their service. Vehicle’s condition has continued to deteriorate, making it unsafe for regular operation. “ “During operation, the vehicle: 1. Shows irregular shifting patterns 2. Has demonstrated unpredictable performance 3. Could potentially fail during operation 4. Leaking oil poses additional safety risks The dealership’s failure to properly address these issues after their service has left the vehicle in an unsafe condition for highway operation. “

Engine was ticking around 74k miles, it started off quiet and I was informed by a mechanic it should be fine as a lot of cars have a ticking sound. Couple thousand miles later the engine is nearly rattling and there's a thumping causing spaces of silence in the exhaust and there's also occasional hard shifting.

The transmission in my car completely failed. I was driving home from work. The check engine light came on. Then I noticed the transmission wasn't changing gears. I also noticed a burning smell as well. I towed the vehicle to the dealership. They discovered the transmission fluid was burned due to over heating. The transmission was locked into 2rd gear. That happened at the end of September with about 59,000 miles. The warranty company sent the dealership a used transmission to dealership. On Monday November 27 while driving home, the transmission failed again. I put about 2,000 miles on the vehicle. For my understanding, this is a known issue with Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM for the transmissions in their vehicles to fail. The manufacturer knows there's a problem. However, the manufacturer hasn't addressed the issue.

My car has been making a loud rattling sound. I had it checked out today and the mechanic is reporting that it's the power train. I see that this is listed a frequent recall problem. My mechanic said that he's seen the same thing. This is going to be over $4000 in repairs that I really believe should be a recall problem if it's fallen under it for other vehicles.

The drive shaft on my Charger started to make a clicking noise. At 56,694 miles I had to replace the drive shaft at an independent garage because the Dodge dealer could not see my car for 3 weeks. The drive shaft is at the garage and available for inspection. I called Dodge for any compensation, and they said they would not provide any.

THE UCONNECT 8.4 INCH SCREEN USED IN A WIDE VARIETY OF DODGE VEHICLES IS HAVING WIDESPREAD PROBLEMS WITH DELAMINATION. MY VEHICLE HAS RECENTLY SEEN BEHAVIOR MOVE FROM COSMETIC TO DANGEROUS FUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOR CHANGES. THE DELAMINATION EVENTUALLY WILL CAUSE "GHOST" OR "PHANTOM" TOUCHES ON THE SCREEN THAT OCCUR WITHOUT ANY ACTUAL USER INPUT. THIS SCREEN CAN ADJUST DRIVE MODES AND SETTINGS THAT IMPACT VEHICLE HANDLING AND POWER DELIVERY. AT WORST, THE CHANGE IN VEHICLE SETTINGS VIA GHOST TOUCHES ON THIS SCREEN COULD CAUSE UNEXPECTED CHANGES IN HANDLING DYNAMICS AND POWER DELIVERY WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AT SPEED. THIS SCREEN IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTROL OF RADIO AND CLIMATE, WHICH IS LIKELY TO CAUSE DISTRACTED DRIVING AS THE DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO NEGATE OR RECTIFY THE FREQUENT CHANGES BEING MADE WITHOUT THEIR INPUT. THE DEGRADATION OF THE SCREEN SEEMS TO BE A ADHESIVE MATERIAL DEFECT WHICH COULD DRIP ONTO FURTHER ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS BEHIND THE DASH, CAUSING A SHORT OR FURTHER MISBEHAVIOR OF IMPORTANT ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.

TOUCHSCREEN RADIO IS DELAMINATING. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE IS CONTROLLED BY THE RADIO. THE DELAMINATION CAUSES 'GHOST' TOUCHES ON THE RADIO. THIS CAUSES THE RADIO TO MAKE PHONE CALLS, TURN ON/OFF EQUIPMENT, BLARE MUSIC...ETC. IT'S EXTREMELY DISTRACTING TO THE DRIVER. AND YOU CANNOT TURN IT OFF. YOU ARE STUCK WITH THIS MALFUNCTION. THIS HAPPENS AT ANYTIME THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. WHEN PARKED OR IN GEAR.

NOISE FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AREA. WHEN GOING SPEEDS OF 65+ MPH THERE IS A HOWLING/WHINING NOISE THAT IS CONSTANT. WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS IT GOES AWAY. WHEN I GET BACK ON THE GAS IT COMES BACK. I HAVE HAD THE REAR DIFF REPLACED AND HAVE HAD IT IN MULTIPLE TIMES FOR DIAGNOSTICS/FLUID CHANGES WITH NO FIX IN SITE. FCA TOLD ME, TO BAD, THAT IS A NORMAL NOISE AND THERE IS NOTHING ELSE WE CAN DO TO FIX THE ISSUE. A BRAND NEW CAR WITH AN OLD CAR NOISE? UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE VIDEOS, REPAIR DOCUMENTATION SHOWING THE NOISE. *TT

MY 2017 DODGE CHARGER IS EXPERIENCING "HARD SHIFTING" WHEN I GET IN THE VEHICLE AND START DRIVING IT. I JUST GOT IT BACK FROM THE DEALER YESTERDAY (THE SECOND TIME I DROPPED IT OFF) AND THEY SAY THEY EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM BUT BECAUSE THERE WERE NO CODES, THEY ARE REFERRING THE PROBLEM BACK TO DODGE. THEY APPLIED COMPUTER UPDATES TO THE PCM AND TCM ON THE FIRST TRIP AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 6,700 MILES ON IT.
