**Subject:** Request for Investigation – Dodge Durango Taillight Water Intrusion and Safety Hazard To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally request that the National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA) investigate a widespread and potentially dangerous manufacturing flaw affecting Dodge Durango vehicles. Both my vehicle and a significant number of other Dodge Durango owners have experienced a recurring issue where water enters the taillight assembly. This intrusion causes the taillights to malfunction, resulting in the lights going out unexpectedly. This defect not only compromises vehicle safety by reducing visibility and signaling capability, but also poses a risk of further electrical damage. In some cases, owners have reported concerns about potential electrical failures and even fire hazards due to water exposure within the taillight housing. Given the prevalence of this issue among Dodge Durango owners, I strongly urge the NHTSA to conduct a thorough investigation and require the manufacturer to address this defect. Importantly, any corrective action should be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to affected vehicle owners, as this is a clear manufacturing flaw that impacts safety and reliability. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing appropriate action taken to protect consumers and ensure vehicle safety. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] . INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The rear bolt which holds the automatic lift for the rear hatch broke off and is stripped. The trunk door is no longer being supported by the arm and is quite heavy. Every mechanic is unable to address the issue and this seems to be very common among this model of the car. The broken bolt is flushed against the frame of the vehicle. Images of the issue are included. Here is a discussion post of consumers discussing this same issue for reference.. THE HEADREST ON THE PASSENGER SEAT JUST POPPED OPEN WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. THE REAR VIEW CAMERA OFTEN DOESN'T RESPOND IMMEDIATELY WHEN WE PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE OR JUST STAYS BLACK FOR AWHILE. NAVIGATION IS SLOW SOMETIMES. IT SEEMS TO BE THE THE SYSTEM KEEPS ON RESETTING BECAUSE MY RADIO STATIONS ARE ERASED WHEN I TURN ON THE CAR. THE REPROGRAM AND IT CONTINUES TO DO THAT. WHEN WE ARE DRIVING THERE IS A SOUND COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD. LIKE A RATTLELING SOUND. WE STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WHAT IT IS. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE ARE DRIVING AND IT SEEMS LIKE A GEAR IS SHIFTED WHEN WE DID NOT STEP ON THE GAS.

The passenger side headrest deployed (popped forward). The vehicle has not been repaired and is available for inspection. This is a major concern since this could happen to the driver as well while driving and potentially cause an accident. The manufacturer knows about this and has an active warranty to cover it. However, why is this not an active recall? It’s a major safety concern for drivers if this happens while driving the vehicle.

The power actuator for the rear lift gate broke free of its mount causing the actuator to damage the interior of the vehicle as well as causing the rear lift gate to slam closed. Luckily there was no one under the lift gate when this malfunction occurred, but if a child were in the way of the lift gate serious injury or death could have occurred. It is unacceptable that this powerful of an actuator is relying on one single bolt as its connection. When I took this to the dealership to get fixed, they told me they could not fix it and referred me to a local body shop. I live in a small town of around 65,000, and I was the forth Dodge vehicle in the last year or so they have seen with this same issue. I have contacted Mopar who makes these vehicles, and they were not interested in repairing this with the warranty and referred me to the NHTSA. If there are four of these issues in a town of 65,000 I can only assume there are plenty of others throughout the nation. I have attached a photo of the part that failed.

MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL WENT OUT, SO I REPLACED BOTH MY LEFT AND RIGHT TURN SIGNALS. MY VEHICLE NOW REGISTERS THAT MY RIGHT TURN SIGNAL IS OUT CONSTANTLY, EVEN THOUGH IT IS OPERATING PROPERLY AND MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL DOES THE SAME PERIODICALLY. SINCE MY PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE NAVIGATION NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE RADIO DISPLAY ITSELF HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN, THIS IS HOW YOU OPERATE MOST OF THE VEHICLES CLIMATE FUNCTIONS, BACK UP CAMERA, NAVIGATION AND RADIO. WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES ON, IT IS SUPPOSED TO TURN ON. HOWEVER MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, IT CHOOSES TO BE OFF, AND I HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO DECIDE TO TURN ON. IF I DO NOT HAVE THE A/C KNOW TURNED OFF WHEN IT DOES THIS, BOTH MY FRONT AND REAR DEFROSTERS WILL TURN ON FULL BLAST UNTIL THE DISPLAY CHOOSES TO OPERATE PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD THIS SYSTEM UPDATED WITH A USB DRIVE AT A DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED. OVERTLY, I AM NOT AT ALL SATISFIED WITH HOW THESE ELECTRICAL ISSUES CONTINUE AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO RESOLVE.

THE 2015 DURANGO THAT WE PURCHASED CAME WITH HEADRESTS THAT "DEPLOY" IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT (IDEALLY). BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HEADRESTS HAVE DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A COLLISION. IT IS UNCLEAR WHEN THEY DEPLOYED. IT IS AS THOUGH THE CLIPS HOLDING THEM TOGETHER INTERNALLY JUST GAVE OUT.

I MADE A COMPLAINT ON SATURDAY BUT DID NOT ATTACH PHOTOGRAPHS. WHILE WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2015 DODGER DURANGO I NEEDED TO PULL OVER TO CHECK ON MY CHILDREN. I WAS NOT IN ANY TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AS I WAS DRIVING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 35 ON THE STREET. WHEN MY WIFE AND I EXITED THE VEHICLE THE PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED. SCARED AND UNSURE WHAT HAPPENED, I ASKED MY WIFE IF SHE HAD TOUCHED OR PULLED THE HEADREST. SHE STATED THEY SHE DID NOT. WE WERE NOT AWARE NOR INFORMED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY FEATURE THAT DEPLOYS THE HEAD REST IN A REAR AND COLLISION. I BEGAN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR SEVERAL YEARS. WITH SOME CASES LEADING TO INJURY AND LITIGATION. SCARED, I TOOK IT THE FOLLOWING MORNING TO THE DEALERSHIP ON WHICH WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THEY HELD IT FOR THE DAY, INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, RAN DIAGNOSTICS. THE END RESULT WAS THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER A DEFECTIVE SAFETY FEATURE HEAD REST. NOW I HAVE TO PAY $970.00 DOLLARS TO REPAIR OR DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THIS SAFETY FEATURE. I AM CURRENTLY CALLING FCA THE PARENT COMPANY FOR DODGE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING I PULLED OVER AND MY WIFE AND I EXITED THE VEHICLE TO CHECK ON OUR TWO CRYING TODDLERS, WHEN MY WIFE EXCITED THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE A LOUD BANG OCCURRED AND THE HEADREST EJECTED FORWARD. I ASKED MY WIFE IF SHE HAD TOUCHED THE HEAD REST AND STATED SHE DID NOT. WE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND IT'S A SAFETY MECHANISM DESIGNED FOR REAR IMPACT COLLISIONS TO PREVENT WHIPLASH. WE WERE NOT IN AN ACCIDENT, WE WERE DRIVING AND PULLED OVER. WE PULLED OVER ON SURFACE STEERS. NO IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE. I FEEL FROM CONDUCTING RESEARCH THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPAIR THIS SAFETY MECHANISM.
