Owners have filed 454 complaints
about the 2006 Dodge Magnum with NHTSA between 2005 and 2025.
The largest single group is the fuel & propulsion.
Across this model's run it ranks 2 of 4 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 58
Against the median year of the Dodge Magnum. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 52
10.1% of these complaints
involved a crash, fire, injury or death, against a national rate of
9.7%.
Early failure — 23
13% of failures with a mileage on record happened under
36,000 miles, against a national rate of
29%.
NHTSA files every complaint against a named sub-assembly, not just a
system. This is the difference between knowing it was "the engine" and
knowing which part of it — the list to hand a mechanic.

NHTSA investigations into the 2006 Dodge Magnum
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. During PE13-016, Chrysler identified a condition in model year (MY) 2005 through 2006 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Magnum vehicles equipped with 5.7L and 6.1L 8-cylinder HEMI engines that may result in engine stall after refueling when the vehicle is stopped or travelling at low speeds. According to Chrysler, the multifunction control valve (MFCV) fuel shutoff float integrated into 19-gallon fuel tanks can swell in a stuck open position allowing an overfill condition. This condition causes fuel to enter into the purge line which may result in engine stall after refueling.Chrysler's investiga...
Recalls on the 2006 Dodge Magnum
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 2016265459,492 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.
Recall 2015228374,508 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Note: This recall supersedes special service campaign 2015-003. Correction: Dealers will replace airbag inflators. All vehicles having received a replacement inflator as part of the previous special service campaign will have a replacement inflator installed.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Canada is conducting a voluntary Safety Improvement Program involving Takata driver and/or passenger airbag inflators installed in certain vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in certain high humidity areas of the United States. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) will replace the driver and/or passenger inflator on affected vehicles, depending on the vehicle involved. Owners who believe their vehicles may have been originally purchased or registered in Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands should contact a Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) dealer. This action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Note: For the 2003 model year Dodge RAM, only the passenger side inflator would need replacement. Additional Note: This special service campaign was replaced by recalls 2015094 and 2015228. On certain vehicles, the gearshift cable may become disengaged from the steering column mounting bracket and cause an incorrect transmission gearshift position display. This could allow the vehicle to move inadvertently, resulting in a crash causing property damages and personal injuries. Correction: Dealers will install a redundant locking mechanism to ensure proper retention and shift linkage function.
Recall 2006102654 units in Canada
Brakes
On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.7L engine, the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube may contact the brake tubes, which may result in a brake fluid leak and potential engine compartment fire. A brake fluid leak may also result in extended stopping distances. Correction: Dealers will inspect the brake tubes for damage and replace if necessary. A clip will also be installed to secure the brake tubes to the right front shock tower in order to maintain proper clearance to the EGR tube.

vehicle engine codes were all corrected properly in hopes of fixing the stalling issues. the vehicle was seemingly better for a few days. upon driving the vehicle on the highway at normal highway speed, the vehicle suddenly began flickering and shutting off and on. the vehicle would shut off and on rapidly. each time the vehicle turned back on it would accelerate causing the vehicle to jolt forward and stop rapidly. the car would not allow me to brake safely. the vehicle behind was within inches of a collision but their quick response to slam on their brakes and swerved to the shoulder thankfully missed. this is not an isolated event. speaking to other hemi 5.7 vehicle owners this is a very common issue. I had a baby in a carseat in the backseat who was jolted around slamming the back of his head into his car seat. this is so dangerously unsafe. not dealership can find the problem even after replacing every part possible on these vehicles.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
This is the second time I have been stuck on the side of the road showing that my car has a quarter tank of gas and it just dies on me. I was rescued with some fuel and it started right back up again. Upon checking for recalls for this issue, I came across some 2005 to 2006 Dodge magnums or chargers with fuel tank recalls. I called Chrysler and they are saying my vin does not apply to the fuel tank recall. How is it, I am having the same exact issue as those vin’s affected by this recall. I think it is something to look into. I have gone on Dodge forums and read people’s stories about the same issue as I am having and I am sure they are unaware of the steps they can take with the NHTSA to file a complaint where an investigation could be imminent. Please advise. This has happened more than once so now I consider an empty tank when I am at a quarter tank reading on my gas meter.

The engine in my 2006 dodge Magnum has begun stalling out after fueling precisely as described in NHTSA action number PE13016. The first time it happened I was in the middle of a U-turn at a busy intersection. The engine died and I lost power steering and power brakes. I was able to brute-force the steering wheel and narrowly avoided hopping the curb and hitting the light pole on the corner. This light pole might have just as easily been a pedestrian. I called my local Dodge dealer (Ontario Dodge, Ontario California) to explain the problem and arrange to bring the car in. I let them know that I was aware that this issue was addressed under NHTSA action number PE13016 and should be covered under the lifetime warranty extension. I was told by the service adviser that I am required to drop off my car and that it would be 7-10 days before they would look at it. I suggested that they put me on a list and I could bring my car in 7-10 days at a time when they were able to look at it. They were unwilling to do this. They're insisting that my car sit in their lot for 7-10 days before they will even look at it. This isn't a scheduling issue. I can go on their website today and schedule my car for any other service tomorrow. No, this is a punitive action. Clearly they don't want to do the repairs and they're hoping I'll just go away by making it unreasonably difficult; not to mention expensive considering that a rental car will now be required. Chrysler and their dealers are not acting in good faith with regards to their agreement with the NHTSA and PE13016. In my experience and opinion they're doing whatever they can to evade these repairs. I'm a little disappointed that a full recall wasn't ordered. The agreement the NHTSA made with Chrysler left them with a little too much wiggle room in my opinion.

I HAVE OWNED THIS 2006 DODGE MAGNUM SE V6 2.7L FROM NEW, BOUGHT IN APRIL 2006, THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING IS WITH THE CAR STALLING, WITHOUT ANY NOTICE, HAPPENING TODAY WHEN TURNING LEFT AT A STOP LIGHT AND STARTING UPHILL. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AFTER PULLING TO THE RIGHT WITHOUT POWER, COMING TO A STOP, PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTARTING. I MADE IT BACK HOME, BUT THE CAR HAS BEEN CRANKING OVER AND NOT STARTING WHEN IN MY GARAGE, THIS AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS. I'VE HAD THIS ISSUE HAPPEN BEFORE FROM 2006 ONWARD TO TODAY, ONLY A FEW TIMES A YEAR, AND CHANGED OUT THE FUEL PUMP RELAY EACH TIME AND THOUGHT THAT WAS THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CAR HAS NEVER STALLED WHILE DRIVING BEFORE NOW, ONLY WHEN SITTING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK. THE CAR ONLY HAS 73,000 MILES NOW AFTER 13 YEARS, I ALWAYS BABY THE CAR AND IT STILL LOOKS NEW. THANKS FOR ANY HELP WITH THIS MATTER
