Recalls on the 2006 Fleetwood Discovery

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2008246 11,692 units in Canada

Other

On certain motorhomes, conventional travel trailers and fifth wheel travel trailers equipped with a Dometic Corporation refrigerator, a fatigue crack can develop in the boiler tube. This could allow the release of pressurized coolant solution into an area where an ignition source is present, which could result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will install a secondary burner housing.

Recall 2006046 28 units in Canada

Electrical

On certain motorhomes, the electric entrance step control unit may develop a short which could ignite its plastic case. If this were to happen, personal injury and/or vehicle and property damage could result. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the step control unit.

Recall 2006029 1 units in Canada

Label

On certain motorhomes, the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin, Federal Certification Tag and the Cargo Carrying Capacity Tag state the incorrect Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). An incorrect GVWR value of 31,000 lbs rather than 28,000 lbs was applied to the labels. Overloading a vehicle could negatively affect its handling characteristics and may result in a crash. Correction: Fleetwood will mail new certification labels and installation instructions to owners of affected vehicles.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

FLEETWOOD USED CHEAP SE-GI WINDOW IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE DISCOVERY MOTORHOMES. AS A RESULT THE DUAL PANE WINDOWS ARE ALL FOGGING UP. THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDER WINDOW IS SO FOGGED UP THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF AND INTO THE MIRROR. REPLACEMENT OF THIS WINDOW IS ABOUT 700.00. THIS MOTOR HOME IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WILL NOT BE REPAIRED BY FLEETWOOD.

ALL THE WINDOWS ON MY COACH HAVE FOGGED BETWEEN THE PANES, I HAD TO HAVE MY DRIVER SIDE REPLACED ON MY OWN FOR SAFETY CONCERNS, THE REST ALL SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED AND THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH SUCH A HIGH PROFILE VEHICLE , I BELIEVE FLEETWOOD SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL AND REPAIR!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE MMDC (MULTIPLE MODULE DATA COMPUTER) WENT HEY-WIRE. ALL GAUGES TURNED OFF. NO SPEEDOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, TEMP, OIL ETC... ALSO THE RV "JAKE" BREAK (ENGINE BREAK) FAILED TO ENGAGE. SEARCH OF THE INTERNET INDICATES THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ON-GOING ISSUE WITH FREIGHTLINER'S MMDC THUS PUTTING MANY LARGE TRUCKS ON THE ROADS, AND THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM, IN DANGER. THE UNIT IS MADE BY MEDALLION INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEMS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THE NUMBER OF MMDC FAILURES (AFTER MARKET SALES) TO SEE IF IT WARRANTS A RECALL. I HAVE A FLEETWOOD RV BUT APPARENTLY THESE THINGS ARE IN A LOT OF RV'S AND POSSIBLY BIG RIGS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

AFTER OWNING MY FLEETWOOD RV FOR ONLY 4 YEARS, AND KEEPING IT HOUSED INDOORS, ALL OF THE DOUBLE-PAINED WINDOWS HAVE FAILED AND FOGGED OVER. IT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A CLEAR LOOK THRU THE SIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS BECAUSE OF THE DETERIORATION OF THE WINDOWS. THIS CREATES A VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION WHILE DRIVING AND WILL LEAD TO NEEDLESS ACCIDENTS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO FLEETWOOD BUT TO NO AVAIL. IT WILL COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO HAVE THE FAULTY WINDOWS REPAIRED. A QUICK SEARCH OF THE INTERNET INDICATES THAT THIS ENDEMIC OF FLEETWOOD RV'S PRODUCED FROM 2000-2010. IT SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FLEETWOOD TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE BUT THEY REFUSE. PLEASE LOOK INTO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS MADE BY THE MANY RV OWNERS WHO HAVE COMPLAINED ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE SPECIFIED THAT THEY WERE FILING COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA. THANK YOU

THE WINDOWS ON MY CLASS A MOTOR HOME ARE FOGGING TO THE POINT WHERE I AM NOT ABLE TO CLEARLY SEE MY OUTSIDE MIRROR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE MOTOR HOME IS A 2006 FLEETWOOD DISCOVERY. FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE THIS APPEARS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM FOR FLEETWOOD. THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO REPLACE THESE WINDOWS AT THEIR COST. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
