NHTSA complaint #11749506 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
In 2019, I purchased a Jaguar Land Rover vehicle. Over the past four to five years, the Y-pipe for the coolant system has repeatedly cracked and broken after being replaced by the Jaguar dealership. This is a significant safety concern that leads to coolant leakage, triggering a warning light and causing panic to remove the vehicle from the road to prevent overheating, head gasket failure, or potential fire. The Y-pipe is not available upon request, and I was informed that it is made of plastic. Because it goes from hot to cold, it will always be a recurring problem as long as it is manufactured as a plastic component. Another year passed, and the problem reoccurred. The dealership informed me that they are now replacing the Y-pipe with a metal version, but only for the current third iteration. With many YouTube videos and Google searches online from hundreds of people with the same problem, I am shocked that a recall has not been issued yet. This part is clearly defective and should be added to the recall list immediately.

I have a 2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged with 65,000 miles that has a knocking noise and is in restricted performance mode. The timing chain and tensioner were replaced by a shop, but that did not fix the issue and I’ve been told there is internal engine damage. The internal engine damage has not been identified. The car itself is in excellent shape, but I don’t know how to proceed to address the internal engine damage as the shop is recommending replacing the engine with a used engine from the salvage yard, but that concerns me as I don’t know the history of the engine from the salvage yard. I've done some research and apparently this is a common issue. Does anyone have any insight on how to proceed with an Arizona recall as this is not normal? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The engine has issues where there is a jerk while accelerating at times. I was told of a misfire issue that Jaguars have and have not been corrected. I was driving my 2012 Jaguar XJ on the interstate when it started slowing down. The engine light than appears on the dash and it starts to jerk as I try to speed up to get off the highway it goes from 60mph to 45mph. I take my foot off the gas and press the gas again for the car to jerk and accelerate slowly back up to 60mph. Not only was I almost hit from behind but almost crashed trying to get over and off the road for my safety and others. I was told by a mechanic the car needed a new gas treatment, fuel cap, and tune up all this money paid and no results. The 2012 Jaguar xj still stalls when accelerating. The buttons are melted into a gummy substance and a barely used sunroof wont close has a loud noise when button is touched to try and close it. Worse experience ever with my 1st and last 2012 Jaguar XJ.

The contact owns a 2014 Jaguar XJ. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the low coolant warning light would appear on the instrument panel. The contact stated that she had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak. Despite the repair, the failure immediately recurred. The vehicle was next taken to a dealer where the damaged coolant hose was replaced. Several other unknown repairs were performed on the vehicle; however, the failure returned soon after the repairs. The contact then took the vehicle to two other independent mechanics where they both confirmed the coolant leak failure; however, the failure remained after each repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

A SERIS OF ISSUES PLAQUE THIS MODEL. CHANGED THROTTLE BODY TWICE BUT CAR KEEP SHOWING STABILITY CONTROL NOT AVAILABLE, THROTTLE BODY ACTUATION ISSUES WITH P2119,P2118 CODES AMONG SEVERAL OTHERS. CAR SHAKES AND SHUTS DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. AT IDLE, THE CAR REV METER GOES UP AND DOWN AND THEN SHUTS OFF. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO GALPIN JAGUAR OVER 5 TIMES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND EACH TIME THE PROBLEM REMAINS THE SAME. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC TWO MORE TIMES PAID THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE PARTS AND STILL THE PROBLEM EXISTS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR LITERALLY MONTHS. EVERYTHING I HAVE BEEN TOLD, I GOT IT FIXED YET, THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. THESE SET OF ISSUES HAPPENS AT IDLE, WHEN DRIVING ON FREEWAYS, AND CITY STREETS. I HAVE CALLED AAA SO OFTEN I HAVE NO MORE. ANOTHER ISSUE- THE CAR WILL STUCK IN DRIVE GEAR AND STOP AND SHUTS OFF. I HAVE EVEN REPLACED EMC COMPUTER. THE ISSUE STARTED LAST YEAR MARCH BUT STOPPED WHEN I CHANGED THROTTLE BODY AND LASTED ABOUT 6 MONTHS, THEN STARTED ACTING AROUND SEPTEMBER AGAIN AND ITS AT THE MECHANIC NOW AND THEY CANT FIND THE ISSUE STILL.

I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS REPAIRING THE SUEDE LINING ON THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. NOW, I CAN'T EVEN FIND ANYONE THAT WILL TOUCH IT! THE WOOD GRAIN HAS FADED AND THE VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT. THE HORRIBLE BUTTONS WERE MADE OF A MATERIAL THAT LITERALLY BECAME GUMMY. I SPENT HUNDREDS HAVING THEM REPLACED. SUNROOF HAD TO BE REPLACED/MOTOR MORE THAN ONCE, THE CLEAR COAT ON THE BACK PANEL OF THE ROOF HAS PEELED. I HAVE HAD OTHER CARS WITH ALMOST 200,000 MILES THAT HAD PERFECT PAINT WHEN TRADED. THE PAINT ON THIS VEHICLE IS TERRIBLE. THIS IS ONLY TO NAME A FEW OF THE ISSUES. I COULD HAVE PURCHASED A NEW VEHICLE FOR WHAT I HAVE SPENT ON THIS CAR. I LOVE THIS VEHICLE BUT MOST LIKELY WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER JAGUAR.

THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS"UNUSUAL" ISSUES FROM "STICK-TO-YOUR-FINGERS" CONTROL BUTTONS THAT WERE CHANGED UNDER WARRANTY TO A FAULTY ALARM SYSTEM THAT GOES OFF RANDOMLY ONCE ACTIVATED,TO EXCEPTIONALLY SLOW TOUCH SCREEN FUNCTIONS THAT CAN ONLY BE CONTROLLED VIA TOUCH SCREEN;PLACING DRIVER IN HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS DISTRACTED BY THE SIGNIFICANT DELAY IN RESPONSE' NOT KNOWING IF COMMAND WAS RECEIVED AND PROCESSED.TO INTERIOR UPHOLSTERY:CEILING,HEADLINER COMING UNGLUED AND UNDONE IN A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME (5 YRS) WITH PARTICLES COMING FROM GLUE/FOAM POLLUTING THE INTERIOR AIR CAUSING BREATHING PROBLEMS;WHILE THE MANUFACTURER DESTINED THE VEHICLE TO A HOT & HUMID DESTINATION.TO THE MAJOR 2 CATASTROPHIC GAUGE/SENSOR FAILURES:THE WATER PUMP BREAKING ,WHICH MAYBE OK, BUT WHEN THE CAR TEMPERATURE GAUGE DOESN'T SHOW AN INCREASE IN OPERATING TEMP AND STAYS DEAD CENTER AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND YOU DRIVE IT SO YOU CAN GET TO SAFETY OF YOUR HOME SINCE IT IS NOT "OVER-HEATING" AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZES ON YOU. YOU ASK THE DEALERSHIP AND A VAGUE COVER-UP ANSWER RIDDEN WITH HESITANCY,GUILT & A SENSE OF "OH,ITS NORMAL FOR THE CAR!" AND NO REMEDY OFFERED OR ISSUED (MAYBE I SHOULD TOUCH THE ENGINE TO MAKE SURE ITS NOT OVERHEATING?!). AND NOW THIS EPISODE:THE 2ND CATASTROPHIC GAUGE FAILURE:THE VEHICLES OIL IS AT 25% CAPACITY (ONLY 25% FULL) NO OIL POOL UNDER THE CAR AT ANY TIME JUST A FEW LIQUID DROPS OF WHAT SEEMED TO BE AC CONDENSATION. THE CAR DOESN'T SHOW AN OIL PRESSURE DROP WARNING OR OVERHEATING OR ANY RELATIVE WARNING. MIND YOU THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A "DIP-STICK" TO CHECK OIL LEVELS. THE ONLY WARNING IS A SERVICE REQUIRED STATEMENT THAT IS PRE-PROGRAMMED AT CERTAIN INTERVALS BY THE MANUFACTURER. EVEN IF I DID NOT CHANGE THE OIL EXACTLY ON TIME AND I'M A BIT LATE,NO WARNING ABOUT LOW OIL CONTENT/LOW OIL PRESSURE. DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE.

I WAS CALMLY DRIVING SLOWER THAN 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEN I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS I HEARD A BIG EXPLOSION-LIKE SOUND. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED TO WHAT SEEMS LIKE OVER 100 MPH AND THE BREAKS DID NOT WORK DESPITE ME PRESSING THE BREAKS SEVERAL TIMES. I SHOT INTO 3 CARS AHEAD OF ME THAT WERE AT THE RED LIGHT. THE OTHER CARS RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE; I SAW THAT OTHERS WERE INJURED. MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED/CRUSHED IN THE FRONT AND A FIRE HAD BROKEN OUT. THE AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED AND I WAS PRETTY MUCH PINNED TO THE SEAT. I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE DEALER BRAND NEW AND HAD IT REGULARLY SERVICED AND MAINTAINED. I WAS THE ONLY DRIVER AND IT HAD ONLY 30000 MILES OVER 3 YRS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 JAGUAR XJ. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE LOW COOLANT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THE GAUGE APPEARED NORMAL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS IT STALLED AND SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
NHTSA complaint #11276939 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN ALIGNMENT. AFTER CHECKING UNDER THE CAR, THE MECHANICS REALIZED THAT THE COOLANT TUBING WAS MADE OF PLASTIC AND BROKE. THEY STATED THAT IF I DROVE THE CAR, I WOULD BE IN DANGER OF THE CAR SMOKING AND MAYBE CATCHING FIRE. I HAD TO REPLACE THE COOLANT. I WAS INFORMED THE JAGUAR HAS CHANGED THEIR ENGINEERING OF THIS RISK DUE TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND REPAIRS. I ALSO HAVE A 2012 XF AND IT HAS THE SAME ISSUE WITHIN THE SAME WEEK WHICH IS COSTING ME $2200 TO REPLACE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE IF THE COOLANT ISSUES RESULTS IS SMOKING AN POTENTIAL FIRE OF THE ENGINE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JAGUAR XJ. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERHEAT AND THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD IT TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO JAGUAR FREEPORT (146 W SUNRISE HWY, FREEPORT, NY 11520, (516) 771-9700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW WATER PUMP AND COOLING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTERCOOLER PIPE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,903.
NHTSA complaint #11141806 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
PROBLEM INVOLVES INTERCOOLER PIPE THAT WAS MADE FOR THE CAR DURING PRODUCTION AND JAGUAR NOW MAKES A NEW INTERCOOLER PIPE DIFFRENT FROM ORIGINAL THAT DOES NOT COME IN THE CAR ORIGINALLY THAT CAUSES CAR TO OVER HEAT AND CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE AS WELL AS RUINING YOUR WATER PUMP WHICH IN TIME IF NOT TREATED CAN CAUSE A FIRE AND ENGINE DAMAGE ALSO REAR SUSPENSION HAS FAULTY BUSHINGS AND AIR SUSPENSION IS LEAKS CAUSING SUSPENSION TO BREAK DOWN EASILY AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT NOT TO LAST MAY CAUSE SUSPENSION TO COLLAPSE MAKING IT HAZARDOUS ON THE ROAD
