SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK

The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, a burnt odor was emitting from the interior of the vehicle.  No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact noticed flames were emitting from the brake caliper assembly, and the brake rotor was red on the front passenger-side tire. The contact used a giant water bottle to extinguish the flames. The contact, her mother, and her daughter were not injured.  The insurance company was contacted, and the contact requested a tow truck. However, the contact called roadside assistance. The driver, from roadside assistance, disconnected an unknown wire from the brake caliper. When the vehicle was restarted, the parking brake lever was engaged but failed to function as intended, and the ABS warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive very slowly and took the vehicle to a family member's residence. The contact noticed that smoke was emitting from the front driver-side tire. The contact took the vehicle to Pep Boys, where it was diagnosed that the front brake calipers failed. However, the mechanic refused to repair the vehicle. The contact called the insurance company to have the vehicle towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power brake booster was faulty, the vehicle had no brakes, the hydraulic control unit failed to build pressure, and an unknown internal leak was found. And the hydraulic brake system had a leak; the left front wheel had caught on fire, which caused damage to the left front brake caliper, the rotor pads, and the brake hose, and the rear rotors were glazed.  The contact was informed that the brake booster, ABS module, brake caliper, brake line, gaskets, front brake pads, front rotors, rear brake pads, rear rotors, and adapter plate needed to be replaced. The DTC codes the diagnostic showed were C0050-00, which i

SERVICE BRAKES

We were accelerating from a stop light and reached about 50 mph when the brakes activated and large red letters saying “BRAKE” were displayed on the drivers dash screen and an alarm sounded. The vehicle slowed rapidly and suddenly. Fortunately we were around no other traffic so there was no collision. There were no impediments on the roadway which might have reasonably caused the brakes to activate.

I was driving on the NYS thru way with my family and my rear suspension coil came out while we were driving. The part was not rusted or looked defected. When I took it to the dealership they said a recall for this issue had been repaired in June of 2023 prior to me owning it. I purchased the vehicle on October of 2024. I called corporate and they said there is nothing they will do for me. I paid $500 to fix an issue that should have been completed properly. This is now a safety concern for me and I fear driving it will happen again.

SERVICE BRAKES

Was driving the vehicle normally, roughly 33,300 miles. All of a sudden, multiple malfunction lights came on, I believe the ABS and something else, can't remember which one. When we applied the brakes , there was no assist, we had to depress the pedal all the way down and basically stand on it to slow down and still ended up stopping partway through an intersection due to the lack of power brakes, we were extremely fortunate there was no other vehicles driving through or stopped in front of us, it could have killed us and/or other people. As the vehicle is out of warranty (by time) we looked into it ourselves and determined there were two DTCs, U0418 (invalid data, brake system control module) and P057B (Brake pedal position sensor circuit range/performance). We looked at the brake pedal and determined that a primary component of the "brake pedal simulator sensor" which is a part of the entire brake booster assembly. The retaining cup for the spring and internal components had come separated from the main body and caused the sensor to go out of range and the computer to disable power brakes entirely relying entirely on the backup hydraulic master cylinder. As this required replacement of the brake booster we decided to have it towed to the dealership to deal with. It was a few weeks before we had it towed and while it sat in the driveway the module not going to sleep resulted in both the main and aux batteries being fully drained and ruined, requiring replacement. The dealer replaced the power booster and provided the old component at our request for the purpose of filing this report in case it is requested for an investigation. The total cost was $1800. We consider this a severe safety issue and thus am filing this report with all documentation and have the part on hand if requested.

SEATS

I am experiencing two serious issues with my Jeep that have raised significant safety concerns. First, the front passenger seat's lumbar bladder repeatedly inflates on its own, making the seat extremely uncomfortable and causing severe back pain for anyone sitting in it. I have been informed that this is a known issue affecting many Jeeps of this model. The dealership previously deflated the lumbar bladder under warranty, but now the problem has returned. I was told I must pay for the repair out of pocket because the previous deflation supposedly voided or disqualified the warranty coverage. I do not believe I should be responsible for paying to fix a recurring defect that was previously addressed under warranty. Second, the Electronic Brake System (EBS) warning light comes on randomly, and when it does, my vehicle unexpectedly slows down or comes to a stop. This creates an extremely dangerous situation while driving. I have been fortunate to avoid a collision so far, but I am very concerned for my safety and the safety of my four children, who regularly ride in the vehicle with me. I am requesting that these issues be thoroughly investigated and repaired at no cost to me, as they involve recurring defects and serious safety risks. I also request a written explanation of why my warranty claim for the recurring seat defect was denied after the dealership's previous repair.

New Orleans, LA

SUSPENSION

The coil spring on the rear passenger side has become detached from my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited. I was unaware that it had happened when I started to drive and could hear something kind of bouncing around. When I got out of the vehicle to see what was going on, I could see that the rear of the car seemed unusually low. That is when I looked under and saw the spring dangling next to the tire. It could've caused a bad accident if it had gotten caught up in the tire or if it had completely detached and either hit another car or caused another car to hit it. The vehicle had a recall for this in 2023, before I owned it, and the status says "inspected" but not repaired. There was another recall early in 2026 for this same issue, but at this time, my vehicle is not part of that recall. However, it should be as this is a dangerous, scary issue that isn't immediately evident. I'm just grateful that I was in my neighborhood when it happened and not driving on the interstate at a high rate of speed, as there was nothing to indicate that it was imminently happening. It hasn't been inspected yet as it just happened but I will have it towed tomorrow to get inspected and repaired. It is underivable in its current condition.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The starter/starter solenoid and related engine oil sealing have failed three times. Most recently on 6/18/2026, and previously in 2024 and 2025, the vehicle would not start: the dashboard illuminated but the engine would not crank. The engine then began smoking and a burning electrical smell entered the cabin. My wife and young child were in the vehicle. The vehicle was rendered completely inoperable and had to be towed each time. Safety risk: an engine that smokes and emits a burning electrical odor upon attempted starting presents a fire hazard to occupants. On the most recent occurrence the failure happened at a fuel station with my family present, over 1,000 miles from home, stranding us for seven days. Dealer confirmation: yes. On the two prior occasions a franchise dealer diagnosed a defective starter solenoid and replaced the starter. Both repairs failed and the identical failure recurred. On the most recent occurrence, a different franchise dealer found that a plug sealing an unused opening on the engine block was missing, allowing engine oil to spray onto and saturate the starter, destroying it. The starter and the plug were replaced. All failures were documented on dealer repair orders, which are available on request. Inspection: the vehicle has been inspected and repaired by franchise dealers on all three occasions. No police or insurance inspection. The manufacturer has been notified through its customer care department, which has open case records on this vehicle. Warning indicators: none. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to any of the three failures. The vehicle simply would not crank, followed by smoke and a burning electrical smell. This vehicle has spent approximately 60 days out of service since purchase and has had persistent electrical problems documented since 2023. Despite repeated dealer repairs the same failure mode continues to recur. I am reporting this as an unaddressed safety defect.

The rear right coil spring and is available for inspection upon request. Spring failed while car was parked in driveway on flat ground, the car was driven with me and my 1 year old at highway speeds of 75mph. No warnings were displayed on dashboard. Never received an update of a recall and will not pull up when VIN is searched. Upon VIN search on MOPAR website original recall repair was done in 2023 which has failed. We did not know of this spring failure until arriving home and seeing it lie where I was parked. Earlier in the day a loud metal noise was heard but figured it came from passing traffic on highway. No one has inspected the vehicle yet, working on trying to get it towed since it is no longer safe to drive. Vehicles rear right tire is now pitched in at top towards rear wheel well. POWER TRAIN

While driving, the vehicle displayed a "Service Shifter" warning with no prior warning lamps or symptoms. The transmission then dropped out of Drive into Neutral on its own while the vehicle was moving, causing it to roll before the vehicle automatically shifted itself into Park and applied the parking brake. The vehicle could be shifted back into Drive but repeatedly slipped out of gear into Neutral again within about a minute each time. After parking, the gear indicator display (P/R/N/D) stopped illuminating entirely and has not returned. The vehicle is now unresponsive to the rotary shifter and is stuck in Park with no way to shift into any gear. This failure matches the description of open recall 30D (shifter module software defect causing loss of transmission gear position display), though my vehicle was not part of the currently identified population when checked against the VIN lookup. The vehicle is currently undriveable and has not yet been inspected by a dealer or independent shop.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

SUSPENSION

The rear passenger side suspension coil fell out of my car in my driveway at less then 2 mph. The spring and rubber piece holding the spring in both fell to the ground with no damage done. The vehicle was towed to a jeep dealership where they confirmed there was no damage to any part of the vehicle, and it just fell out with no explanation. The dealer insists that we cannot reinstall the same sping, even though there is no damage to the vehicle or spring. If this would have happened at highway speeds, it could have been very dangerous for me or others around me. The dealer is currently making the repairs, but at my cost. There is currently a recall for this exact issue for my make/model/trim but for vehicles produced earlier in the year of 2023 (my vehicle is not covered). There was no warning lamps, messages or any symptoms of any failure prior to the spring falling from the vehicle.

SUSPENSION

Rear passenger coil spring popped out and became lodged in the tire while driving. We were driving on the Whitestone expressway and the car came to a resisted halt. This could have caused severe injury if I had not been in the lane and came to a slowdown to allow a car to merge in front of me. The highway traffic patrol man dislodged the fully intact coil from between the tire and tire well. There were no warning lamps, indicators, signs or symptoms. Initially I thought the tire popped which was strange as there was no pot holes or obstructions in the road.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited has had an issue since I purchased it in March 2024 that has a loud booming sound that comes out of the speakers when you turn it on. It exceeds 70 dBA when it happens and causes me ear pain. My dealer has reported it numerous times and it is known to Jeep but they still have not come up with a fix. You can see this issue documented in a reddit post: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
