Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 106 - Brake Hoses. The air tube expander fitting, a components of the air brake system, is designed for a burst pressure of 800 psi instead of the required 1,200 psi. Expander failure would cause an air leak to occur when the foot brake or trailer hand brake is applied. Should this occur in conjunction with compressor failure, the resultant air loss would release pressure on the park brake springs. This could set the brakes on the rear axle, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the expander fitting with a compliant version.

On certain vehicles, the trailer cable mounting bracket has a "U-shaped" cut-out that only partially supports the trailer cable connection. This may allow the moulded boot and electrical ground pin to partially or completely pull away from the 7-way socket. Partial or complete detachment can cause reduced water resistance and potential loss of electrical ground. There is also a possibility the trailer lights may fail to illuminate without the operator's knowledge. The air lines were incorrectly constructed with only four layers of extruded nylon material, instead of the specified five layers. Should the air lines develop a leak, while the vehicle is in motion, it could cause the air brake system to fail, which would engage the rear spring brakes, slowing the vehicle to a stop, and preventing it from being driven. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the air lines.
