When owners complained

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

Recalls on the 2025 Porsche Macan

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2025182 1,020 units in Canada

Visual System

Issue: Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the rearview camera not to work when the transmission is shifted into the reverse gear. Additionally, on certain vehicles, water could leak into the rearview camera. As a result, these issues could cause the rearview camera image not to display correctly or at all. Note: This recall only affects certain electric models. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display correctly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Porsche will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the reversing camera control unit software. Additionally, the dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the rearview and surround view cameras.

Recall 2024722 10 units in Canada

Lights And Instruments

Issue: On a small number of vehicles, a software problem could cause the high beams to be too bright. Canadian regulations specify a maximum brightness for high beams. Safety Risk: High beams that are too bright could cause glare for oncoming drivers and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Action: Porsche will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the headlamp control unit.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

While slowing to a near-complete stop and preparing to shift into Park at a low-speed private property location, the vehicle suddenly and violently accelerated without any driver input. The operator, a [XXX] experienced driver, had no time to react. The vehicle travelled approximately 200-300 meters uncontrolled, narrowly missed a grounds keeper operating a tractor on the paved road, left the paved road, drove over a fallen log and between trees, and stopped autonomously just before hitting a tree directly ahead. The driver did not brake at any point. The vehicle stopped itself. Physical evidence at the scene shows deep tire marks dug into soft ground consistent with autonomous emergency braking activation directed straight toward the tree. Four witnesses were present including a bystander who nearly was struck by the vehicle. A formal safety case has been opened with the manufacturer's corporate office. Federal safety complaint also filed with Transport Canada. A nearly identical sudden unintended acceleration incident involving a 2023 Porsche Macan while parking is already on record with NHTSA. This appears to represent a pattern on the same platform and warrants formal investigation. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STEERING

I had a red sign on dashboard saying:*chassis failure, park the car carefully.* the car was towed to Porshe. And, was released after one week as safe to drive and dismissed the sign as a glitch. The second day of releasing the car, I had a major accident while parking the car in the garage. The accident resulted in damage to the outer wall and to cabinets. I requested an investigation of the car and the results from Porshe weren’t convincing. I know I pushed the brake twice but the car jumped with acceleration twice and stopped because of the wreckage in front of it.

Yesterday, I viewed photos of a Macan EV that was significantly damaged when the hood flew open while the vehicle was in motion. This caused me to investigate the safety of my vehicle. I have found that there is no secondary "mechanical only" safety latch on the hood of this newly designed car. This means a single button push on the key fob, or inside the vehicle's control panel will rapidly eject the frunk open, with no human physical intervention with a safety latch. While a car's software is programmed to prohibit hood opening while the car is in motion, a software glitch/fail could still cause unplanned opening. As I understand CFR 571.113--Standard 113 Hood Latch Systems, the lack of a "mechanical only" secondary latch requiring human intervention to open--is not consistent with the intent of Section 113.

On XXX, while at a residential complex in [XXX], I got into my 2025 Porsche Cayenne and gently closed the door. Upon closing the door, the rear window spontaneously shattered completely. The conditions at the time were as follows: • Outdoor temperature: approximately 85°F — well within normal operating range • No prior chips, cracks, or visible damage to the glass before the incident • No external impact, projectile, vandalism, or theft attempt of any kind • No vehicles or people were in the immediate area at the time of failure • The only action taken was a normal, gentle closing of the car door This was not a minor crack. The window shattered completely and without warning. Flying glass debris posed a serious safety hazard to myself and anyone nearby. We were fortunate no injuries occurred. Door failed to open from inside. Vehicle was used to travel approximately 6 miles from my home to a store. Upon arrival, the vehicle was placed into park. The door would not open from the inside and I was unable to exit the vehicle. Attempts were made to lock and unlock the door, in addition to pushing on the door with my body while holding the door handle in the open position. Only after placing the car into reverse and back into park did the door open normally. At the next stop, the door opened from the inside, but only after a few seconds and two attempts. The problem has not repeated itself in the 5 to 10 trips since.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I was driving on the highway at 60mph on a 4 month old 2025 Porsche Macan Ev 4S. I turned off the AC for both driver and passenger. I suddenly started seeing increasingly larger clouds of black smoke coming out of the passenger side of the cabin, and a clear and increasing smell of something burning. I had to roll down my windows because of the smoke. The cabin filled with black smoke. I tried different things to see if something was broken, and as part of my troubleshooting I turned the AC back on. That got the smoke to clear. There was no warning indicator, no message and no service required indicator on my dash. I did not receive any recall notices. I brought the car in to the Porsche Bellevue Service Center to get it serviced. The service attendant insisted that as the car was not reproducing the issue at that exact moment there was nothing they could do more than a visual inspection. I insisted and they agreed to investigate. They found an active Porsche bulletin for my vehicle, SY 828055 'Smoke and or a burnt odor from vents in the passenger compartment'. The service center did replace the passenger ac unit and this has not happened since. The attendant was clearly not trained on these bulletins as they kept denying anything could possibly be wrong with the car telling me 'we can't just take your car apart for a problem that happened once'. When this was in fact what needed to happen. A electric car that's 4 months old catching fire at 60mph on the highway is not normal. It's a major safety issue. If I hadn't lucked into turning the AC on I imagine this would have been a major fire on the freeway. Can you help bring this to Porsche's attention? I'm surprised this was not part of a recall.

POWER TRAIN

When pressing the PARK button the vehicle does not always engage the parking brake and instead stays in gear. This can occur if the vehicle is in D or R, and occurs even if there is an audible “click” to register the press of the parking button. In 3000 miles, this has happened at least 6 times. A video is available on request, as you can’t show this in a still photo.
