Porsche dealers are not fixing this recall. They offer service appointments 6 months in advance, and then cancel at the last minute. I've been trying to get this recall done for 18 months, with no success.

Open status is confirmed by the manufacturer's own lookup at [XXX] as of XXX. The recalls cannot be completed because the manufacturer's authorized network refuses to confirm or schedule the work. The vehicle originated in the US and is now registered in [XXX]. In December 2025 the authorized dealer (Winner Porsche Center Kyiv Airport) refused, stating recalls are performed only for vehicles originally sold on the local market. I escalated to Porsche AG in XXX; the case was reviewed by Porsche Central and Eastern Europe and the official importer. After inspecting the vehicle in XXX, the dealer tried to condition recall work on my acceptance of unrelated paid repairs, and in XXX stated in writing that it reserves the right to refuse manufacturer campaigns due to "existing defects," without identifying any technical dependency between the cited findings and the recall work (brake-hose replacement and battery inspection/software are unaffected). A final written request with a 10-business-day deadline expired in XXX with no response from any Porsche entity. Safety risk: a battery fire risk and reduced front-brake performance remain unremedied on a vehicle in regular daily use. No warning lamps or symptoms; the risk arises from the unrepaired recall defects themselves. My 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S (VIN [XXX]) has a recurring, dangerous brake failure that remains unresolved after multiple dealer repair attempts. At low speed, the automatic emergency braking system activates on its own and begins decelerating the car. As the car slows to roughly 5 mph, the brake pedal drops, braking pressure disappears, and the vehicle keeps rolling forward. Pressing the pedal as hard as I physically can does not bring the car to a stop. On more than 5 occasions I have had to steer around the vehicle in front of me to avoid a collision. The failure is intermittent and unpredictable, which makes it especially hazardous. The problem has existed since early in my ownership. On [XXX] (16,631 miles), Porsche Livermore found multiple brake booster faults and replaced the brake booster assembly, re-bled the brakes, and recoded the PSM control unit (RO [XXX]). The dead-pedal emergency-stop failure continued. I returned on [XXX] (40,904 miles) for the same problem; the dealer recoded the PSM unit and reset the brake pedal value but classified the pedal travel as "normal" (RO [XXX]). I returned again in May 2026 (46,585 miles) reporting that the dead-pedal emergency-stop failure still remained. The dealer could not duplicate it and called it "operating as designed" (RO/Invoice [XXX]). No crash or injury has occurred only because I was able to take evasive action each time. The defect is unresolved and creates a serious risk of a crash, and I am reporting it so it is on the federal safety record. When the forward collision warning activates, the braking pedal loses its effectiveness and causes the car to brake much more slowly than it should, which actually increases the chance of a collision occurring. The tungsten carbide coating on the PSCB (Porsche Surface Coated Brake) rotors has failed at 44,000 miles. This is not normal wear. The Taycan’s regenerative braking system handles the substantial majority of deceleration under normal driving conditions, meaning the mechanical brakes on this vehicle have seen a fraction of the use they would on a comparable internal combustion vehicle at the same mileage. Coating failure under these conditions is consistent with a material or manufacturing defect. Porsche has issued Technical Service Bulletins addressing PSCB disc replacement on the 2020 Taycan, indicating this is a known issue. Porsche Cars North America was contacted twice requesting goodwill consideration and denied both requests, citing warranty expiration without addressing the vehicle’s braking profile or the existence of related TSBs. The cost of OEM PSCB rotor replacement is approximately $7,500–$10,000 including labor. No safety-equivalent aftermarket replacement exists for this proprietary system, leaving owners with no practical alternative to the full OEM repair cost.

My Porsche Taycan unexpectedly applies the brakes on its own while traveling at highway speeds and flashes a red warning message instructing me to take control of the steering wheel, even though both of my hands are already on the wheel. This is extremely dangerous because sudden braking at high speeds creates a major risk of rear-end collisions and loss of control. When It Occurs: This issue started recently and has happened multiple times under normal driving conditions (clear weather, open road, both hands on the wheel, no imminent obstacle). It appears to occur without warning and without any legitimate reason for emergency braking. Approximately 3 times in 1 month. Dealer Response: I reported the problem to my Porsche dealership. They claimed this behavior is “normal,” but also acknowledged that many other owners have experienced similar issues. Despite this, they offered no fix and did not classify it as a defect. I strongly disagree that this is normal—this is a critical safety hazard. I have another upcoming appointment for an additional check June 29, 2025. Safety Risk: Unexpected braking at highway speeds could lead to a rear-end crash, loss of control, or serious injury. This is not driver error. The vehicle is misinterpreting conditions or malfunctioning, and the warning to take control of the steering wheel despite both hands being on the wheel suggests a possible sensor or software failure.

I brought my vehicle in to a Porsche dealer on May 24th 2025 for a noise coming from the front right wheel area. There were some other issues but those were not safety related. They stated the vehicle has an open recall campaign for a brake hose. That there is a risk it could break. It is now July 18th 2025 and the dealer has had the car the entire time since May 24th 2025. They are saying they can't complete the safety recall due to no parts. Porsche has issued a STOP order for dealers selling affected vehicles. Porsche has issued a STOP order for dealers to use affected vehicles as loaners. It seems I should STOP driving the car as well yet the dealer indicated it is to give it back to me unrepaired.

On April 23, 2024, while decelerating gently at a traffic light, I heard a loud “thump” sound from the rear of my 2021 Porsche Taycan. Immediately, the vehicle lost access to the Reverse (R) and Park (P) gears. I was able to slowly coast into a nearby parking lot, but then all gear positions (Drive, Reverse, Neutral, Park) became completely unresponsive. The vehicle was immobilized and had to be towed. At the time of failure, the vehicle had just under 45,000 miles and had received routine maintenance and a recall inspection at a Porsche Center in March 2024. The factory warranty expired only one day earlier, on April 22. Porsche is refusing to cover repairs or provide a loaner vehicle, even though the failure clearly occurred at extremely low mileage and immediately after warranty expiration. The failure pattern matches the symptoms described in TSB #2209 (NHTSA ID: 10210797) for the 2022 Taycan, which identifies a known defect where the vehicle unexpectedly shifts from D or R into N or P without driver input. While my vehicle is a 2021 model, the behavior is nearly identical — sudden loss of drivability, unexpected gear disengagement, and major safety risk in traffic. This incident could have resulted in a serious accident had it happened in moving traffic. I am submitting this complaint in hopes that NHTSA will investigate whether this known transmission defect also affects 2021 Taycan models, and to ensure Porsche takes responsibility for latent safety defects, regardless of narrowly expired warranty status.

Accelerating away from a stop sign, and going about 25 mph, the car slammed on the brakes, even a couple of ABS jerks, and said “Engine Control Issue; Park in a safe place.” (It might have said Engine Control Error). After stopping, was unable to move the car, as all drive power had been shut off. All instrumentation was still powered up. I then shut off power to car, waited 15 seconds, and car powered up normally and was able to drive normally with no warning indications on instrument panel.

Driving on a major roadway with no traffic or obstacles in front of me the car went into emergency braking mode and the engine shut down. The dashboard warning said “Engine Control Issue, Park in a Safe Place”. I could not restart the car for about 15 minutes, then it finally restarted and acted normally. The danger was the car braked violently and stopped in the middle lane of a busy street and I was unable to restart or move the car for about 15 minutes.

On September 5th I was driving my 2021 Taycan 4S on my way to the Gym at 4:15 am, at that time there hardly any traffic. As am merging on the 101 southbound at the nearest on ramp everything seemed ok, as am driving along at 60-65 mph, I came to a downhill and the car was gaining speed, I stepped on the brake pedal to slow it down and to my surprise the brake pedal went all the way down to the floor! I had no brakes and gaining speed, my first thought was if the brakes had failed I would either crash the car against the freeway sidewalks or try to find a place where I can crash without hurting other drivers, fortunately I kept on pressing the brake pedal and it built up some pressure to slow it down but not to stop it, I kept my cool, but I was shaking knowing that I had no brakes! after a few miles the car was slowing down and was able To get off the freeway and pulled into my gym’s parking lot that luckily has an uphill and it helped to slow it down to a complete stop. At this point there was no warnings or error on the dashboard until it came to a complete stop, the message read “PSM failure” and to visit the workshop, nothing about the brake failure that had just happened! And it was after 2 hours, the failure occurred at 4:15 am and that did not show up until 6:12 am. I went into my gym to calm myself down after this horrible experience and after an hour or so I went back to my car and that is when I saw the warning, after a while I called Porsche road assistance and left the car where it was because Porsche road assistance couldn’t send a tow truck quickly, I revived a call from the tow truck company at 9:00 am and met them at the location, I explained to the driver what had happened and as he drove the car out of the parking spot brake fluid started to spray,out of the driver side font caliper, and there was a poodle of brake fluid under the car.

Car has collision detection and remedy system that detects for impending collision and activates braking. Incident occurred when the car in front abruptly brakes and my car detected collision and applied brakes, however, the brakes were not fully applied and would not completely stop to avoid colliding with the rear end of the car. Most importantly, the car would not respond to me pushing the brakes. I tried a couple of times in the short time before I had to turn into the next lane to evade collision. Luckily there were no car next to me. Also the pedal sometimes need to be pressed hard for the brakes to work effectively, and feel the brakes are soft. This happened a few times and both instances were reported to Porsche dealer. This is very dangerous as it occurs when you least expect, and leaves no error code. Dealer found the pedals to be ‘soft’ and adjusted but brake fading issue still persist. This car is a death trap with many recalls including battery bricking on the highway rendering the car immobile in the middle of traffic. Porsche should be forced to buy the car back.

The contact owns a 2023 Porsche Taycan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 MPH in stop-and-go traffic a second vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of a third vehicle. The contact stated that during the incident the braking system had malfunctioned and the vehicle did not immediately stop while pressing the brake pedal causing the rear end collision. No injuries were reported. A police report was taken at the scene. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 3,000.

I was driving N/B 101 freeway w my wife at approx 70 mph. I felt the rear end slip ever so slightly and thought maybe I somehow lost traction w the road. I continued driving and it occurred twice more in the span of a few miles. I then realized it was unlikely I continued to lose traction with the road. I told my wife something felt wrong and began to maneuver from the #1 lane to the shoulder. I slowed to 50 mph and continued straight w my foot off the accelerator and the brake with both hands on the steering wheel in a straight (non turning) position. Suddenly, the rear end of the vehicle came out and we went into a massive spin. It ultimately caused us to crash into a median wall. I have been through many driver's courses. I have been through many skid pad trainings. I have also been through Precision Intervention Technique (PIT) training. I have been in both the receiving end of a PIT and the giving end of a PIT. The force of this spin was greater than any spin I have felt. It felt like one side or perhaps both rear wheels locked up. I have no other explanation that could cause any vehicle to just spin out of control while driving straight at 50 mph.

The car is being inspected by the dealership. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? It is being inspected today. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The Porsche Taycan's brakes have always been soft. Recently, at slow speeds, I have had to pump the brakes to stop. The last time, I had to turn off the road to prevent an accident. The tow truck driver, who brought my car to Englewood NJ Porsche stated I had no brakes. Porsche of Englewood called me after their evaluation stating the car was fine and could not find a brake problem. I told him that the internet had multiple complaints that the Taycan brakes would not work at slow speeds and that it was found to be the brake booster that was malfunctioning. At slow speeds, the Taycan brake pedal pushes all the way to the floor but the vehicle does not stop. This happens when approaching a stop sign, other vehicles, pedestrians, etc. The problem has been reproduced. The Porsche dealer confirms it is a problem with Taycans and acknowledges the potential for accidents. The dealer says Porsche Germany has not provided a fix. Vehicles and pedestrians in front of the vehicle are at risk of being hit. The vehicle is available for inspection.
