NHTSA crash tests

The agency crash-tested this model year itself. These are its own photographs and star ratings.

These stars come from the pre-2011 crash test programme. NHTSA rebuilt the programme for the 2011 model year and states that ratings either side of that change are not comparable — so do not read these against a 2011-or-newer car's stars.

When owners complained

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

NHTSA investigations into the 2007 Buick Lacrosse

An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2007 Buick Lacrosse

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

United States — NHTSA

15V519000

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.

Risk: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

14V355000

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.

Risk: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

STEERING

DORMAN IS RECALLING 979 STEERING KNUCKLES, DORMAN P/NOS. 697-902 AND 697-903, SOLD UNDER DORMAN'S "OE SOLUTIONSTM" BRAND NAME, AND NAPA P/NOS. 7-8502 AND 7-8503 WHICH WERE SOLD FOR REPLACEMENT USE ON THE VARIOUS VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.

Risk: A BROKEN STEERING KNUCKLE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

06V419000

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE

ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE FUEL TANK IS MISSING THE ADHESIVE LAYER THAT BONDS THE BARRIER LAYER TO THE OUTER SHELL OF THE FUEL TANK.

Risk: WITH THIS CONDITION, FUEL AND/OR FUEL VAPORS COULD SEEP OUT BETWEEN THE LAYERS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A FIRE.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS CAN GO OUT AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT 7/2013. WOULD ONLY DRIVE DURING DAY/ HAD MODULE REPLACED A YEAR AGO WHEN RECALL NOTICE CAME OUT AND HAD LIGHTS FOR A ABOUT 6 MONTHS WITH NO PROBLEM. WAS DRIVING GOING AROUND A CORNER A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, LIGHTS WENT OUT AND I WENT INTO DITCH CAUSING A BAD FENDER DENT AND BREAKING MY WINDSHIELD. LIGHTS CAN COME AND GO AT ANY TIME. THANK GOD, NO ONE WAS HURT. THIS COULD BE A MAJOR PROBLEM. YOU CAN USE BRIGHTS, BUT THAT WOULD CAUSE BLINDING THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

I WAS GETTING OFF OF WORK AND AS I TRIED TO OPEN MY CAR I NOTICED THE REMOTE WASN'T WORK. AS I APPROACHED MY VEHICLE I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNT. FIGURED IT WAS COMING FROM THE ALLEY. I NOTICED MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE UP. I MANUALLY OPENED THE CAR AND IT SMELLED WORSE OF BURNT. NOTICED THAT NOTHING WAS WORKING INSIDE MY VEHICLE. I CALL SECURITY TO COME AND HELP ME AND AS WE OPEN THE HOOD IT SMELLED JUST AS BAD. WE NOTICED THAT THE FUSE BOX HAD A MELTED HOLE IN IT. ONCE IT OPENED SEVERAL FUSED WERE BURNT. I HAVE READ THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I WISH U LET US UPLOAD PICTURES OF THIS INCIDENT. WHAT IF WHILE DRIVING MY CAR HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE OR SOMETHING WORSE COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ME OR MY CHILD. LUCKILY I WAS OUT OF MY VEHICLE WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. THIS ISSUE HAS TO BE LOOKED AT. NOW I HAVE TO TOW MY CAR OUT OF MY WORK GARAGE PAY FOR THAT AND THEN PAY FOR MY VEHICLE TO GET FIX WHICH WE SHOULD DEFINITELY GET REIMBURSED FOR IT BECAUSE IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE THAT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. IT CAN TURN OUT TO BE A BIG LAW SUIT AGAINST BUICK. I HAD THE SAME ISSUE ALSO WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. I WOULD BE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND OUT OF NO WHERE MY LIGHTS WOULD JUST SHUT OFF. HAD TO REPLACE THAT ALSO. . .UPDATED 07/21/15 *BF UPDATED 11/9/2015
