The worst model year for it is 2020.
I was driving in a highway going at highway speed and the car suddenly just shut off and all the alert lights were reflected at that time the car was not responding completely, shut off, then within seconds after the lights flashed it started on it's own. It was the first time this happened. I was concerned that the car would not respond and maybe could have cost an accident.
NHTSA complaint #11762586 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The vehicle has had breaking issues since I purchased it in September 23, 2023. On April 26, 2025 the car completely shut down while driving it for no apparent reason. Took it to the certified Cadillac dealer (see picture). Said, it was fixed. May 11, 2026 started doing it again while driving, turning, backing up or at a light. Breaks keep saying need to be serviced too. Had it towed in to Cadillac dealer they can’t get it to repeat problem or get codes to find out problem. I got Cadillac involved to help. Case number 98248412. Had to pick car up today spoke again with service manager at Cadillac dealer. He said, car has major issues and it’s rearing its ugly head (car is defective). He can’t get the codes because whatever is going on with car it’s not talking to the computer. I’ve been on a major highway and the car just shuts down. I’ve asked Cadillac to repurchase the car because I am afraid of being in a major accident and killed because I never know when the car will shut down. Cadillac told, me to keep driving the car until it showed up again and they would not repurchase it. If I get rear ended on a 4 line highway by a semi truck because the car just shut down myself and family could be killed.

2025 CADILLAC XT6 AWD SPORT, VIN [XXX] , PURCHASED NEW FROM [XXX] [XXX] ON FEBRUARY 20, 2026. THE VEHICLE'S AUDIO SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATES ALL SPEAKERS WITHOUT COMMAND WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE CONDITION OCCURS UNPREDICTABLY AND PRODUCES A SUDDEN LOUD AUDIO EVENT INSIDE THE CABIN THAT STARTLES THE DRIVER AND CREATES A DRIVER- DISTRACTION HAZARD. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO DEVELOPED A PERSISTENT DASHBOARD RATTLE, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED TO THE SAME UNDERLYING BODY- CONTROL-MODULE OR WIRING ISSUE. I HAVE REPORTED THESE CONDITIONS TO CENTRAL [XXX] . THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY OUT OF SERVICE FOR AN UNRELATED CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE (SEE COMPANION NHTSA COMPLAINT FILED BY THIS CONSUMER). I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT SO NHTSA CAN EVALUATE WHETHER OTHER 2024–2026 CADILLAC XT6 VEHICLES HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME UNCOMMANDED AUDIO ACTIVATION AND WHETHER THE CONDITION WARRANTS INVESTIGATION. NO CRASH HAS OCCURRED. NO INJURIES HAVE OCCURRED. THE RISK IS DRIVER DISTRACTION FROM AN UNEXPECTED LOUD AUDIO EVENT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. Cadillac XT6 – VIN: [XXX] echanical Failures, Ignored Transmission Recall(s), and Dealer Negligence I write this letter to formally place General Motors Company on notice of a pattern of serious mechanical failures, ignored safety recalls, and dealership indifference involving my Cadillac XT6, referenced above. This vehicle has been presented to Sam Leman Cadillac of Champaign on multiple occasions for mechanical issues, including—but not limited to—cooling system failures, thermostat defects, persistent check-engine warnings, and abnormal vehicle operation. Service records confirm repeated interventions, temporary fixes, and diagnostic acknowledgments without meaningful long-term resolution. More alarming, however, is the dealership’s failure to appropriately address and disclose known transmission recalls and other safety recalls applicable to this vehicle. Despite GM’s documented awareness of widespread transmission issues affecting similarly situated vehicles, the dealership elected to either minimize, ignore, or defer corrective action—placing convenience and cost avoidance above consumer safety. This conduct raises serious concerns, including: •Failure to act on known manufacturer defects •Failure to honor GM’s recall and safety obligations •Repeated return of a vehicle to service despite unresolved defects •A pattern of repairs that suggests systemic failure, not isolated incidents •Improper shifting of financial responsibility to the consumer for manufacturer-caused defects Consumers do not purchase Cadillac vehicles with the expectation of serving as unpaid beta testers for unresolved engineering flaws. Nor should they be forced to navigate a maze of denials and deflections when defects arise that GM already knows exist. This is not a maintenance issue—it is a manufacturer and dealer accountability issue. NHTSA complaint #11716802 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The vehicle was previously recalled for an intermittent backup camera failure. Prior to me purchasing the vehicle, the recall was completed and documented as repaired. I went in to the Myrtle Beach Cadillac dealership for reoccurring issues with the camera failing exactly as disclosed in the recall. It will randomly cut to a black screen with a camera icon crossed out in red. It is a true safety issue that leaves my family as risk of a collision or injuring someone else.It cannot be recreated on request as it is happening intermittently. The dealership refused to inspect the safety recall repair for proper operation and only stated that the recall repair was completed.

WHEN TRYING TO BACK IN GARAGE, TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE AT ALL AND CAN ONLY MOVE FORWARD, AT TIMES, THE NAVIGATION DISPLAY SCREEN WILL TURN OFF OR FREEZE BEFORE OPERATING NORMALLY, AND THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN SQUEEKING EVER SINCE IT WAS DRIVEN OFF THE CAR LOT WHEN PURCHASED NEW; GM SAYS THAT'S NORMAL.

RECALL FOR CABLE FOR VISION SYSTEM REPAIRED 5/28/2025. ON 6/29/25 SAME ISSUES OCCURED. TOOK TO DEALER 7/18/25. DEALER CONFIRMED CABLE REPLACED. ATTEMPTED TO REPROGRAM VIDEO PROCESSING CENTER SEVERAL TIMES ( I WAS AT DEALER 7 HOURS). DEALER INDICATED THAT THE VIDEO PROCESSING CONTROL MODULE IS NOT ACCEPTING RE-PROGRAMMING. INDCATED THAT PART MUST BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $973.00. SYMBOLS APPEARED ON DASHBOARD SCREEN : TRIANGLE WITH EXCAMATION POINT, AND BOX WITH "X" THRU A CAMERA. CAR IS DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF WHEN BACKING DUE TO PILLAR PLACEMENT IN REAR. RELY ON CAMERA(S) ON 4 SIDES OF CAR TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON. I SEE THAT SEVERAL OTHER GM MODELS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM.
NHTSA complaint #11674734 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
There is a known problem, which Cadillac refuses to recall, regarding a steering assist reduced warning. The warning light disables the air conditioning system and steering assist. When the light comes on, reduced power to the steering system occurs. I took the vehicle in to be serviced, but the service light was off, and Cadillac refused to fix it; intentionally trying to run the timer out on the 5year/70,000 powertrain warranty. It's a known issue, all over the internet. In fact, they recalled several models due to the same problem. "19V-086 / N182182760 Recall Summary If the steering assistance is not available, extra effort would be required to steer the vehicle, and this would increase risk of a crash. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Cadillac CTS, and 2017 Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet Camaro, and Chevrolet Corvette vehicles." I've reset the light several times, and it usually stays off for several days before returning. This sounds like a software problem, but Cadillac has not taken any steps to fix the issue. It is dangerous for any reduction in steering, especially during winter or at highway speed. It's also dangerous to disable air conditioning, as during the summer, the temperature can reach above 140 F inside a vehicle. If a driver were to have a medical event in a parking lot, or fall asleep with the vehicle on while simply waiting for somebody -- while assuming the air conditioner would keep them cool and comfortable -- within 10 minutes the temperature could reach 130+ degrees, and into the 150s in California or Las Vegas. Software should never reduce steering assist, or disable the air conditioner automatically. I would like a recall to be issued regarding this problem. I don't know if they have designed the system to fail right at the warranty or just after, but it certainly appears that way. Please look into the matter. Cadillac has refused to repair under warranty. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.

Car started and ran at idle for 5 minutes. 10 minutes later when attempting to restart, the engine churned for several seconds then ran for about 2 seconds and cut out. "Press to Start" button remained showing green and would not respond to being pressed. The car was stationary in my garage; this would have been extremely dangerous if it happened on the highway. It seems to be a complete failure of the fuel system on a 2021 model with under 27,000 miles

While driving the dashboard screen goes blank including the radio. If using adaptive cruise control it also shuts off. After five or six minutes the cadillac symbol will appear on the radio screen and the dashboard screen will begin to sign back on. You must reset the cruise control. Everything on the dash is black including the speedometer and gages. This has occurred numerous times and the dealer informed me that there is no recall and no solution to the problem. My son has a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe with the same problem. The first time it happened was on an isolated road at 10:30 PM. I pulled over, not understanding what was occurring. I consider this dangerous not know what’s going on how long if will last

I was waiting for a light to change to green and the vehicle shut down because of the auto-stop feature, after a couple of seconds the car turned on again and this message came on "stability track off" and this happened like that like 3 times until I turned off the auto-stop. I took it to the dealer the next day and they scanned it for issue and told me there's nothing wrong with the vehicle.

I purchased a 2023 Cadillac XT6 .the issue is when I SHIFT into reverse at night the back up camera get very dim and it is very hard to see anything thru the rear display. Cadillac say's it is working as designed. .They are correct. I tried this on other Cadillac XT6 car and same issue. There is a safety issue it is VERY dim. I tried a Buick,, and Chevy and they both worked great I could see at night in a dim Garage .All ALL they say is "it is working as designed". This answer does not fix a safety issue that is required to work in ALL cars. It is very hard to see what is behind me. The dealer has seen it and admits there is a design issue. However they can only tell Cadillac that "it is working as designed

The back up camera is intermittently non functional when placed in reverse gear. A red triangle and red camera icon appear on the screen with a circle and slash through it. GM has posted a Bulletin #PIC6420 that offers a solution stating that it is likely a connection concern and recommends replacing a coax cable which can be ordered through the WPC. There have been multiple complaints about this serious problem on the Cadillac Owners Forum. I make deliveries to senior citizens homes (Meals on Wheels) with this car and need my backup camera to work. I no longer feel safe driving this car. I have contacted my dealership (Lafontaine Cadillac in Highland, Mi) and they will not accommodate a service appointment and supply a loaner car until July 22, 2022.
