Had to get engine replaced 2 months after I bought it in May 2022, warranty covered the replacement. Ongoing issues with catalytic converters, O2 sensors, check engine light coming on due to those reasons for approximately almost 2 years now. Powertrain (Stablitrak, ABS & ECO) stopped working 6 months after purchase - stablitrak warning light came on, took to dealer that I bought it from, quoted almost $900 to fix it, then took it to a private shop then had them fix it due to affordable cost, but somewhat still having some issues. Now Equinox is burning through oil fast. I can bring it in upon request via TEXT ONLY as that I'M DEAF. Those issues have put my children's and my safety at risk because the powertrain caused my Equinox to shut off in the middle of the highway going uphill and other times as I was driving with my kids. All of those need to be fixed by the manufacturer or totaled and I get reimbursed for it. Can provide receipts of repairs & quotes to repair upon request via email.

Engine went into limp mode with now warning. I recieved a reduced engine power warning and the vehicle lost acceleration on the highway almost leading to an accident. I had the car towed to Coggin GM for diagnostic and was told that my throttle body has to be replaced. I was advised that this is common issue with this engine and notify due to a recall of older equinoxes

Safety Complaint: Engine Stall/Loss of Power at Highway Speeds – 2014 Chevy Equinox Incident Details: • The Failure: While driving, the vehicle suddenly stopped responding to the accelerator. I was forced to navigate through highway traffic to the shoulder with no engine power. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. • Warning Signs: Leading up to the event, the Check Engine light and Battery light flickered intermittently. • Diagnostic History: Prior to the breakdown, a technician replaced the starter and checked the battery, yet the Check Engine light remained on. The engine exhibited high RPMs (reaching 3,000+) during normal acceleration before the total failure. • Safety Risk: This defect caused a complete loss of propulsion in high-speed traffic, placing myself and my infant in immediate danger of a high-speed rear-end collision.

Service Stabilitrak, Power Steering light, Check Engine light. Door locks lock and unlock continuously. Randomly has No acceleration, causes jolting at a low speed. Available for inspection asap. The code “UO101” comes up in a diagnostic test. Overall, the car basically shuts down while driving at no specific speed. Safety of myself and others is at risk because this can cause an accident resulting in being rear ended/collision with car and other vehicles as it randomly happens when driving. I took my car to the dealership on 3/5/25 and expressed this issue and they could not diagnose it as it was not physically happening after I dropped it off to them. They had the car for 4 days and couldn’t duplicate the issue. They gave back the car and told me there was no issue with the vehicle and it is continuing to happen again. They told me to get proof of the incident on video when it happens again. (I was able to get a video today 4/3/25) There is no warning before this event happens. It will go away and not happen for a few days and then the next day it is not drivable. I am concerned for the safety of myself and others and would like to find the cause of this once and for all. I’d like for the dealership to not send me away without a reason why this is happening or fixing my vehicle.

I was driving in busy traffic with no warning signs, no check engine lights when all of a sudden my engine lost power an would not restart. I had to get a tow from Kentucky to Michigan to a near by Mechanic where he ran a boroscope. The timing chain failed which then valves hit the pistons. I know this has been a big problem for this year equinox.

While driving down the interstate at approximately 70 mph the equinox would locks would start to cycle and at the same time the service stabiltrak and service power steering line would come on and the vehicle would drastically slow to around 30-40 mph, almost causing an accident. This is a well known issue with Chevrolet and they have not tried to resolve the issue. This is going to cause major issues when someone gets in a wreck. There is no definite fix out there for this issue and Chevrolet needs to be held accountable for this and fix this issue.

high oil consumption, plugged/damaged PCV valve. This is a known problem with 2010-2014 chevy equinox and a special coverage was issued in 2015, but not all affected vehicles were included in this special coverage, but my vehicle was not included even though the model, year, mileage, and specific issue are all the same as other equinox's that do fall under this special coverage. The special coverage needs to be extended to additional vehicles and Chevy will not address this complaint from me directly. The safety issue is that this problem was going on for months, but the check engine light did not go off to alert me of an issue. I noticed a sound when the vehicle was idling and when my car was suddenly not making it to the next scheduled oil change without being extremely low on oil. Had I not noticed the sound or checked my oil level on the spot (which the average consumer may not due) my engine would have seized up on the highway because it was down 3 quarts even though I had a recent oil change. The car does not make it between standard oil change time frames of 3,000-4,000 miles due to the heavy oil consumption from the defective pcv valve.

Service Stabilitrak & Power Steering light comes on after initial start up or in the middle of driving intermittently cause car to jolt back & forth while driving which can cause an accident if someone or car is near, could hear that car was attempting to lock & unlock doors while errors appear on dash. When changing gears a jolt and loud knock sounds occurs, now check engine light appears, this has caused a new issue now code states to replace transmission valve body assembly…Unable to locate part anywhere & I’m not clear what may be causing issue since it happens intermittently. Changed battery, msgs stopped appearing on dash for a week. Boom hopes were high now msgs are there again….Total nightmare. I just bought this car!!!

At 129,000 miles the car threw a p0420 code for the catalytic converter being bad. Yes, it is available for inspection. The car burns up oil like it gets paid for it at about the rate of a quart every other week or so which is a known issue for this type of vehicle but Chevy refuses to issue a recall for this year for some reason. The catalytic converter failure is directly related to the excessive engine oil consumption. The check engine light is illuminated.

2014 CHEVY EQUINOX WILL STALL WHEN ACCELERATING. THIS HAPPENS AT ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING YOU GO TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR TURNS OFF, THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN NUMEROUS TIMES AND SPENT OVER 2K ON REPAIRS. CURRENTLY MY VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, NO CODES. IT APPEARS THAT EVERYTHING IS OPERATING NORMALLY. IT IS NOT, I WILL NOT LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE I AM WORRIED THAT SHE COULD BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I RECENTLY FOUND THAT GM HAD IDENTIFIED THAT THIS VEHICLE CONSUMES A LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL AND IT CAUSING ISSUES SIMILAR TO WHAT I AM REPORTING. ONLY ISSUE IS THEY ARE REQUIRING A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST REQUIRING MULTIPLE VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. WHICH I HAVE DONE AND THEY STILL SAY ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. IN THE MEAN TIME I AM GOING TO CONTINUE TO STALL PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, PUTTING MY LIFE AND OTHERS LIFE AT RISK. THERE NEEDS TO BE A MANDATORY RECALL AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE. MY LAST TWO OIL CHANGES I HAD LESS THAN 2.5 QUARTS LEFT. THERE IS NO LEAK ON MY VEHICLE, AND I CHANGE MY OIL ABOUT EVERY 5K MILES PER MANUFACTURER SUGGESTIONS.

VEHICLE SHAKES WHEN DRIVING, ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAY, SLUGGISH TO ACCELERATE, MAKING HIGHWAY DRIVING FEARFUL. VEHICLE ALSO IS ROUGH AT IDLE, WITH POSSIBLE DYING OF ENGINE AT STOP LIGHTS. 8 REPAIRS SINCE JULY, 2017 - ALL RELATIVE TO SAME ISSUE - CAMSHAFT/EXHAUST. THIS CURRENT REPAIRS HAS BEEN FOR THE BALANCING SHAFT/WATER PUMP CHAIN, TENSIONER AND GASKETS, SEALS, ETC. I HAVE DONE A TIMELINE OF ISSUES/REPAIRS TO TRY TO TAKE ON GM. GOOD LUCK I REALIZE. FROM THE 7 DEALERSHIP TRIPS IN THE LAST YEAR THEY APPEAR TO ALL HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE INITIAL DAMAGE TO THE EXHAUST/CAMSHAFT REPAIRS AS EACH AND EVERY TIME SINCE THEN, EITHER THE EXHAUST OF THE CAMSHAFT HAS BEEN REPAIRED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. THE INITIAL ISSUE WAS SLUGGISH ACCELERATION, ENGINE LIGHT ON. REPAIRED EXHAUST AND INTAKE CAMSHAFT ACTUATORS. THEN THE ALTERNATOR/BELT WENT OUT (NOT COUNTED IN THE 7 - HAD REPAIRED ELSEWHERE). I DIDN'T KNOW THEY FAILED FROM OIL ALL OVER THEM UNTIL THEY STARTED TO FAIL AGAIN AND LOOKED UNDER HOOD AND SAW OIL ALL OVER THE THING. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED R+R SEAL, PULLEY, BELT AND BALANCER. SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD THE BALANCER 2X, TIMING CHAIN 3X, TENSIONER 3X.

YOUR GM BULLETIN 14882 SHOULD BE A COMPLETE RECALL FOR ALL EQUINOX'S. THIS PART IS HAZARDOUS, AND HAS COST WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE ALOT OF MONEY. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE ONLY HAD 1 YEAR AND NOW BECAUSE OF YOUR "SPECIAL" BULLETIN AND BULLCRAP THAT IT WASN'T BUILT IN A SPECIAL PLANT I HAVE TO SPEND MORE THEN WHAT THE TRUCK IS WORTH TO PUT A BRAND NEW MOTOR IN MY SUV. IT WAS A VERY COLD MORNING AND I WAS DROPPING MY DAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL ON MY WAY TO WORK ON A STATE RT. MY ENGINE STARTED MAKING A WEIRD NOISE AND THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND INSTRUCTED ME TO TURN THE CAR OFF. I PULLED OVER AND WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR I NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT OF MY CAR ONTO THE GROUND. LUCKILY, MY HUSBAND WAS OFF WORK THAT MORNING AND ABLE TO COME AND PICK ME UP BEFORE I FROZE TO DEATH. A TOW TRUCK TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP THAT WORKS ON OUR CARS. THEY WANTED NOTHING TO DUE WITH IT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THE YEAR MAKE A MODEL OF MY VEHICLE. THEY GAVE US A COPY OF A BULLETIN THAT WAS SENT OUT BY GM, REF # 14882, STATING THE EXACT SITUATION THAT OCCURRED WITH MY VEHICLE. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED US THAT MY VIN # WAS NOT COVERED. HOW COULD THIS BE OK? IF THERE IS A FAULTY PART INSTALLED INTO A VEHICLE, HOW CAN THE CUSTOMER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS? IF YOU SEARCH THIS EXACT SITUATION ON THE INTERNET, YOU WILL FIND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE. ON THURSDAY, 31 JANUARY I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 CHEVY EQUINOX HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 60-62 MPH AND HEARD A POPPING NOISE FOLLOWED UP WITH MY CAR MAKING A LOUD NOISE AND THE DISPLAY STATING THE CAR WAS LOW ON OIL AND THE ENGINE WAS POWERING DOWN, TO STOP THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A LOCAL MUFFLER SHOP BEFORE MY CAR DIED. THEY WERE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AFTER SOME DIAGNOSTICS AND STATED THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS SAME ISSUE RECENTLY WITH MULTIPLE CHEVY EQUINOX'S. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME OF A TSB DATED JAN 22, 2016. THE REF # IS PIP5093B. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE AND RECOMMENDED THAT I CONTACT CHEVY ABOUT A POSSIBLE RECALL AND TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. AS SOON AS I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, I TOLD THE GENTLEMAN I HAD A CHEVY EQUINOX WITH A MAJOR OIL LEAK. HE IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME IT WAS THE REAR MAIN SEAL. I ASKED HIM HOW HE KNEW THAT AND HE STATED THAT WITH THE COLD WEATHER WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THAT HE HAD A FEW OTHERS IN THE SHOP CURRENTLY THAT WERE GETTING REPAIRED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY TYPE OF RECALL OR ANYTHING AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT. I CONTACTED CHEVY AND ASKED ABOUT THE ISSUE. I TRIED TO STRESS MY CONCERN WITH THE FACT THAT THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SO MUCH RECENTLY WITH THE HOPES THAT THIS WOULD BE LOOKED INTO BY CHEVY. A CASE WAS IMMEDIATELY CREATED, AND I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSED BY A CHEVY DEALERSHIP BEFORE ANYTHING COULD BE DONE. SO I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP SINCE IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. WHILE THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR WAS LOADING MY CAR FOR TRANSPORT, HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD RECENTLY TOWED MULTIPLE EQUINOX'S RECENTLY DUE TO THE SAME MASSIVE OIL LEAK. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED ME AND CONFIRMED THE ISSUE WAS THE REAR MAIN SEAL. I WAS TOLD THAT THE COST OF REPAIRS WOULD BE $2,184.00 + TAX.

VEHICLE HAS 66,000 MILES ON IT AND IS A 2014. BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED. ALWAYS HAD OIL CHANGED ON TIME AND TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING ON A MORNING IT WAS -5 DEGREES OUTSIDE THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. A MINUTE LATER, THE MOTOR SHUT OFF. THE CAR STARTED BACK UP BUT WAS TOWED TO OUR MECHANICS GARAGE. OUR MECHANIC COMPLETED A DIAGNOSTIC AND RULED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE PCV/REAR SEAL. I CALLED GM MOTORS BECAUSE I SAW A GM BULLETIN STATING THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT OUR VIN WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE THE CAR'S PARTS WERE NOT MANUFACTURED IN A SPECIFIC FACTORY. I REQUESTED AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THAT MATTERS IF IT IS STILL HAPPENING TO OUR VEHICLE. GM REFUSED TO GIVE ME AN ANSWER. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I TOW MY VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP TO GET THE DIAGNOSTICS FROM THEM. I DID SO. IT COST $95. GM ESCALATED MY ISSUE WITHIN THE COMPANY. I WAITED 3 DAYS FOR AN ANSWER AS TO IF THEY WOULD HELP PAY FOR THE COST TO FIX THIS PROBLEM-WHICH THE DEALERSHIP STATED WOULD COST $1800.00. GM CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THEY CANNOT HELP AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS ISSUE AND FILE MORE COMPLAINTS.
