Our 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty diesel with the 6.7L Power Stroke engine has a well-known, massive fuel system concern involving the Bosch CP4 high-pressure fuel pump. This pump failed and it sheds metal shavings throughout the entire fuel system. Repair cost $13k. Per other consumer and google results: The CP4 Fuel Pump Issue. The Defect: The Bosch CP4 pump is designed for European diesel fuel, which has more lubrication than American diesel. When it lacks sufficient lubrication, it can score itself and self-destruct. The Damage: Metal debris floods the fuel rails, lines, and injectors, requiring a complete replacement of the fuel system components.

My wife reported a strong smell fuel in the passenger compartment of my 2018 F350 6.7L Diesel vehicle while returning home from work. Upon inspection under the hood when power was turned on I discovered a strong stream of fuel from the filter cap.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH and coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled in the middle to the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was pushed to side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the high-pressure fuel pump had exploded, causing metal shavings intrusion in the fuel system. The dealer determined that the entire fuel system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.

Unknown component that failed. Suspicion, the fuel system located at the back of the fire wall on drivers side. The fire started in that location and was extremely hot and fast moving. The truck was fully engulfed within 1.5 minutes then burnt the attached 5th wheel trailer and contents. It was a total loss of 3 vehicles 2018 Ford F350, 2021 Dutchman Voltage 5th wheel trailer, and a 2013 Polaris RZR side by side UTV. All was reduced to rubble within 15 Min. Our safety and lives were at risk, we had 30-45 seconds from smelling and seeing smoke to flames. We were traveling on Interstate 15 at highway speeds and had to stop as safe as possible on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle has not been inspected as far as I know, the frame is all what is left. There were no warning lights and all gauges read normal,

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Engine Power reduced" message was displayed on the instrument panel before the vehicle lost automotive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously towed on several occasions for the failure and the fuel system was replaced. The vehicle was recently towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V957000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

This issue is connected with the 6.7L diesel engine. When sitting and idling it starts to idle really fast and the exhaust has an odor and strong fumes. It did not use to do this. I took to my Ford dealership and they say it's normal and there is nothing wrong. I have talked with other people that own the Ford diesel and they have experienced the same issue and been told the same thing by their dealership. No warnings or anything come up when the vehicle does this. If you enter the vehicle and touch the brake or accelerator it will then idle back down.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the odor of diesel fuel was present inside and outside the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the diesel fuel was leaking from the fuel filter inside the engine compartment and onto the ground. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.

I developed a diesel fuel smell coming from under the hood. They traced it down to the engine fuel filter on top of the engine. The filter housing is made of plastic. The filter housing failed and the top came loose/cracked spewing fuel all down the drivers side of the engine. I was afraid it cause a fire and was able to get it in to the dealership. Because it's considered a " wear / replacement item " they charged me for it. My issue is if the housing failed with no distress from an outside source, why isn't Fird addresing this issue? Obviously the integrity of the top fuel filter is in question and should be considered a serious safety concern!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES AND POWER STEERING FAILED TO OPERATE AS NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED HE CONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL HE REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MAC HAIK FORD JACKSON (6130 I-55, JACKSON, MS 39211) AND THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED WITH CONTAMINATED DIESEL FUEL. THE CONTACT STATED HIS INSURANCE COMPANY SENT AN INSURANCE ADJUSTER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS WITH THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
