The contact owned a 2021 Ford F-450 Super Duty. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH on an 8 percent decline and pulling a trailer, the vehicle slightly responded upon depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, the transmission failed to downshift and was stuck in 10th gear. The contact pumped the brakes; however, the failure persisted. The contact drove into the shoulder of the roadway, and the vehicle was able to stop. The contact noticed smoke, and upon inspecting underneath the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear brakes were on fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's friend, where the trailer was detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the contact was informed that no failure was found. The vehicle was taken back to the residence of the contact's friend. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal to start the vehicle, the brake pedal travelled all the way to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and traded for another vehicle. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

My 2021 Ford F 450 will not actuate the electric over hydraulic brakes on my gooseneck trailer. I was hauling my tractor to one of my hay fields when a car pulled out in front me. I apply my foot to the brake pedal and the truck and trailer did not slow down liked it use to and I almost rear ended the vehicle that pulled out in front of me. After this I try to apply just the trailer brakes using the brake actuator on the dash and the trailer brakes never operated. I check my fuses and they were good and I checked the trailer using another truck and they worked. I then checked the trailer wiring connections on my truck and they were good. I have done a manual reset on my trucks programming and the truck still will not activate the trailer brakes. Please help.

Gatormade gooseneck trailers equipped with electric over hydraulic disc brakes will loose trailer connection to ford trucks model years 2022+ and some newer GM trucks upon restart of the vehicle resulting in the loss of trailer brakes. Also randomly while driving the trailer will loose connection with the tow vehicle and loose trailer braking ability. Gatormade is aware of the problem, but refuses to tell customers of the issues and are still selling them with the compatibility issue. They are advising me to try and add resistors to remedy the issue.

04/2022 F-450 with 13,000 miles (garaged over winter) no boat towing. Reporting the first incident/time connected to trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes is 18 months after purchasing the truck. The F-450 has intermittent power to the #5 pin (+Batt) of the 7-way trailer connection. This pin is for powering the electric over hydraulic brakes. There is also an intermittent triple chime and a visual warning of "Trailer Disconnected" when the brakes are released. When first connecting the trailer 7-way, the #5 pin has power. However if you turn the vehicle off and restart the truck without first disconnecting the 7-way, the #5 pin will not have power and the trailer does not have any brakes. In order to correct this, you need to leave the vehicle running, exit and disconnect and reconnect the 7-Way. There are no fuses blown. The wire has continuity from the Trailer Brake Control Module to the 7-Way connector in both the bed and bumper locations. There is no corrosion on the terminal ends of the wires or the 7-way connector. Di-Electric grease remains on pins/connector. Seekins Ford (Dealership) replaced the Trailer Brake Control Module on 14 November, 2024. I asked them to look into Recall 22V193, but there was nothing about it on the repair order and the service writer didn't know. Though the module was replaced, the problem persists. I took the trailer a 2024 Diamond C F-Max 212 with Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes to a servicing dealer who verified the brake system nominal. I connected the trailer to 3 other vehicles to verify the brakes operate. A 2023 Tacoma, 2006 F-250, and a Kubota Farm Tractor. The trailer brakes operated on all vehicles. I have deadlined the truck from pulling a trailer until this problem is resolved.

I was driving the truck and applied the brakes to slow down for a turn, the anti-lock brake system activated and I lost the power steering and power brakes. There is steering fluid all over the engine so apparently either a line broke or the reservoir broke. This truck has the hydro boost brake system which is why I lost the steering and the brakes.

Trailer brake controller will randomly announce "trailer wiring fault" and lose all brakes. Brake power will momentarily show requested power then cut off. Trailer has been confirmed ok, works 100% on two other trucks, ground continuity is 100% via plug only, brake wiring and resistance all in spec for 3 Dexter 7000# axles (electric drum) Will randomly cut out after working for days. Usually when needed most. Dealer claims "cannot duplicate" had been to dealer 4x for it, to include a software update. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering Automotive Concentration from what used to be GMs in house engineering school. (GMI/Kettering) To say I'm intimately familiar with how this should work is an understatement. Also, the manual slider control should just provide requested power to brakes, bypassing any BXM/TCM interlocks. In aviation, if I use a backup brake it bypasses antiskid, anything else. Towing a 21,000 pound trailer in the Mountains when this thing decides to not work is sketchy. It will eventually cause an accident given that it's a widespread issue known to people but magically no recall. If this was an Airbus 321 or Boeing 737 we'd have an Airworthiness Directive at a minimum.

Vehicle does not remember its previous settings: The following features may or may not be on, even if you have actively went through and turned them off or on. Local dealership has had this truck over 4 times and for days at a time. Nothing has been resolved of these safety functions. Rear automatic emergency braking Engine brake Lane departure warning (which actually jerks steering wheel if it is on and you get close to the edge of the lane) Lane centering assistance These safety sensitive functions turn themselves on and off, no matter the amount of computer updates through the dealer. Dealer has not been able to resolve this issue and the technician has not been able to get Ford to give her any answers as well.

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-450 SD. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the electronic brake control became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer, Ray's Ford Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram 385 Bypass Rd., Brandenburg, KY 40108, and was informed that the vehicle was not covered under a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V193000 (Electrical System). The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

2022 F450 King Ranch will not recognize an electric over hydraulic brake system on the trailer. It will recognize it if you connect while running. Once you shut the engine off and turn it back on it disconnects and will not recognize the trailer until you get out and go back to the plug and unplug and plug it in again. The 2021 F450 will work with the trailer. The dealer tried hooking up (4) different 2022 F series and they all did the same thing. Have been emailing every email address I can get ahold of at ford. Field service engineer came out on 6/8 and he cannot figure out the issue. This truck was taken in after the brake controller recall on 4/18/22. First attempt updated software on 4/20/22. Supposed to fix. Still not fixed as of 6/13/22. Also had our 2021 Gator Trailer inspected for any issues. There were none. The fact that Hardy Ford hooked up 2022 F150, F250, F450 to the trailer and none of them would recognize and electric over hydraulic brake trailer system.

Towing 18,000 trailer and truck disconnects trailer breaks. This is risking somebodies life… if this is an active recall why arent we being notified about it when we are purchasing a brand new truck to haul. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen

The trailer brakes fail after a random period of time. Though the trailer works fine with other controllers, the entire trailer was rewired with new brakes and a new 7-pin connector, the problem did not changed - there are no shorts, grounds, opens in the brake circuit, and the ground circuit is OK. There previously were and are no intermittent problems with the trailer. The trailer brakes will start off the trip working, but stop working at random times. I've often noticed that they'll fail shortly after sitting in traffic. After the failure, I remove and reinstall fuse #62 in the under hood fuse box, and the trailer brake operation will be restored for a while. Being aware of this problem, and the dealers being no help (this is a common topic on groups and forums), I regularly manually test trailer brake operation, especially before descending a hill, but sometimes even shortly after confirming proper operation, the trailer brakes will not work. After the failure, I will pull over, then again confirm that they're not working, then R&R the fuse without disturbing any other circuits or connectors, and the trailer brakes will resume operation. Turning the truck off and on does not fix the problem even temporarily. I experience this problem about every hundred miles or so of driving. The truck currently has about 2,500 miles, but the problem was noticed at about 1,100 miles during the first tow. I'd estimate I've experienced the trailer brake failure about seven times.

COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE WITH ONLY 830 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. ON JULY 19, 2019 WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION ON E. CAUSEWAY APPROACH IN MANDEVILLE, LA. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SLOWING ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLES AHEAD OF ME AT THE INTERSECTION. I RAPIDLY DOWN SHIFTED THROUGH THE GEARS TO REDUCE SPEED AND ALSO APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE TO HELP REDUCE SPEED. WHILE THE VEHICLE DID SLOW DOWN IT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING THE TRAFFIC AHEAD, SO I VEERED OFF TO THE RIGHT AND MISSED THE OTHER CARS. AFTER SLOWING TO A ROLL I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK TO BRING IT TO A COMPLETE STOP. ONCE I GATHERED MY THOUGHTS I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE MAIN ROADWAY AND CONTACT FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER A TOW TRUCK ARRIVED AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT ONE WEEK EARLIER. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED IN THE ENGINE BAY BY THE MASTER CYLINDER AND RUNNING DOWN THE FRAME AND POOLING UNDER THE VEHICLE. I ALSO OBSERVED THAT THE FLARE NUTS AT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD BEEN GALLED UP AND ALMOST ROUNDED AS IF A WRENCH HAD BEEN SLIPPING OFF DURING ASSEMBLY. THESE GALLED UP FLARE NUTS WERE ON THE LINES THAT APPEARED TO BE LOSING BRAKE FLUID.*DT *DT*JB CONSUMER STATED HE RECIEVED TRUCK BACK FROM DEALERSHIP. ISSUE ON FORD'S END DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. LOOKS LIKE THE FACTORY HAS MISALIGNED ONE OF THE HARD BRAKE LINES AT THE MASTER CYLINDER. WHEN THEY TIGHTENED THE FLARE NUT THEY STRIPPED IT OUT IN THE MASTER CYLINDER HOUSING. THE LINE HAD ENOUGH FASTENING TENSION TO HOLD THE FLARE MATING SURFACES TOGETHER. APPARENTLY WHEN I APPLIED HARD BRAKING PRESSURE THE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED NUT ALLOWED THE BRAKE LINE TO SLIP BACK AND LOSE FLUID & PRESSURE CONTAINMENT. BRAKES WERE FINE.

THE A/C COMPRESSOR JUST WENT OUT FOR THE SECOND TIME AND FROM WHAT IT LOOKS TO ME IS WHY THE SECOND FAILURE HAS OCCURRED IS BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT REPLACE THE CONDENSER AS WAS REQUIRED AND ALSO PAID FOR BY ME. THE TRUCK HAS THE "DEATH-WOBBLE" EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REINFORCED THE STEERING IN GENERAL AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. HOWEVER, DUE TO JUST THESE TWO ISSUES AND THE OTHERS IT HAS HAD WHICH ARE FAILED WATER PUMP, TURBO, STARTER AND HYDRO-BOOST BRAKE BOOSTER WITH THE WATER PUMP GOING OUT AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES AND THEN THE TURBO AT ABOUT 82,000 MILES WITH THE WORK PERFORMED AT TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS AT A VERY POOR QUALITY I REPLACED THE STARTER MYSELF AND THE HYDRO-BOOST. YOU CANNOT TRUST A DEALERSHIP WHEN THE WORKED PERFORMED IS AT BEST NO BETTER THAN WHAT I CAN PERFORM. JUST LIKE RIGHT NOW OR FOR QUITE A LONG TIME IT HAS HAD THE TWO FIELD SERVICE ACTION ITEMS BEING NUMBERS: 15M02 AND 18M01 AND AFTER READING THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT AND OR AFTER A DEALERSHIP HAS PERFORMED THESE TWO FUNCTIONS ON OTHER SUCH PERSON(S) VEHICLES, I MOST LIKELY WILL NOT LET A DEALERSHIP TOUCH MINE.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH A TRAILER AND A LOAD CONNECTED TO THE TRUCK THE CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM MESSAGE SUDDENLY APPEARED WITHIN THE MESSAGE DISPLAY, AS WELL AS THE ABS LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT. IMMEDIATELY WE ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS NOT TOO CONGESTED AROUND US AND WE WERE DRIVING ON A RELATIVELY FLAT ROAD AT THE TIME. THE VEHICLE HAD LOST VIRTUALLY ALL BRAKING POWER AND THE WE BASICALLY HAD TO COAST TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE IS A 2016 FORD F-450 SUPER DUTY CREW CAB TOWING A 25' GOOSENECK TRAILER WITH ONLY 71,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AN ABSOLUTE CATASTROPHE HAD WE BEEN HAULING A HEAVIER LOAD AND DRIVING DOWN A DOWNHILL GRADE! THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITHOUT ANY KIND OF WARNING WHATSOEVER! FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT RESULTS IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY! *DT

VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY NOT RUNNING AND IN DRIVEWAY. THERE HAD BEEN NO PRIOR INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEM, AND NO ISSUE NOTED WITH ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. VEHICLE HAD RECENTLY BEEN SERVICED AT LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR OIL/FILTER CHANGE. DEALER INSPECTION NOTED NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS CRANKED UP AND PUT INTO DRIVE. VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN, IMMEDIATE, AND TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKE CAPABILITY. VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. EXTREME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO BRAKE PEDAL BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. POWER STEERING WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL CAUSING EXTREME DIFFICULTY IN STEERING VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY PUT INTO NEUTRAL UNTIL IT SLOWED ENOUGH TO PUT INTO REVERSE AND STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. VEHICLE ALMOST HIT ROAD SIGN BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. BRAKES AND POWER STEERING WERE NON FUNCTIONAL. VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY MOVED BACKWARD TO GET IT OUT OF THE ROAD PATH USING REVERSE/NEUTRAL POSITIONING. VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND CHECKED FOR POSSIBLE LOSS OF POWER STEERING/BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM FLUID. FLUID LEVEL WAS JUST BELOW MAXIMUM LEVEL MARK, SO NO LOSS OF FLUID IN POWER STEERING/POWER BRAKING BOOSTER SYSTEM HAD OCCURRED. UPON RESTART, POWER STEERING SYSTEM WAS MARGINALLY FUNCTIONAL WITH GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM POWER STEERING/POWER BRAKING BOOSTER SYSTEM WHEN STEERING WHEEL TURNED OR BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED. PULSATING FEEL COMING FROM BRAKE PEDAL WHEN PRESSURE APPLIED. POWER BRAKES WERE STILL NON-FUNCTIONAL. VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING FUNCTION AND ONLY MARGINAL STEERING FUNCTION. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO FORD DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. AFTER 4 DAYS, DEALER HAS STILL NOT LOOKED AT VEHICLE.

TRUCK WAS PULLING MY 16K 5TH WHEEL CAMPER OVER THE PASSES BETWEEN MONTANA AND IDAHO IN TOW HAUL MODE UP AND DOWN. THESE ARE ONLY 4,200 FOOT PASSES BUT STEEP. USUALLY IN 6TH GEAR BUT SOMETIMES 4TH GOING 50-55; OIL TEMPS SHOW AS 220 TO 239 THEN THE BIG FAN KICKS IN TO COOL IT. ON ONE OF THE SMALLER PASSES, SHORTLY AFTER I CRESTED THE HILL THE TRUCK SHARPLY DOWN SHIFTED (I THINK IT SKIPPED 4TH AND WENT INTO 3RD. IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON, ?TOOL? EMBLEM SHOWED ON DASH, "LOW POWER" NOTICE SHOWED ON DASH, AND I BARELY HAD TIME TO GET HALFWAY OFF THE ROAD BEFORE I LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A HORRIFIC DISASTER ON JUST ABOUT ANY OTHER INTERSTATE HIGHWAY LOCATION, LET ALONE TWO LANE ROADS THAT WE HAVE BEEN WITH OUR TRUCK/TRAILER. AS IT WAS, IT WAS ONE VERY SCARY TEN SECONDS. I HAD NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. LATER I LEARNED THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN THAT I SHOULD KEEP IT ABOVE 5 MPH TO GET OFF ROAD AND LINED UP, THEN STOMP ON BRAKES BECAUSE YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE. ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, "?CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT IS RED, BUT NO OTHER WARNING LIGHTS NOW. I CAN GET NO REVS OUT OF ENGINE. I TURN OFF KEY AND SHUT DOWN. CHECK FLUIDS UNDERNEATH, AND UNDER HOOD ALL IS WELL. TRY PHONE - NO COVERAGE. CLOSEST TOWN IS 16 MILES. RESTART ENGINE AFTER 5 MINUTES. IT WAS ABOUT 60 OUTSIDE AT THE TOP OF THE PASS, AND I CAN NOW REV ENGINE, BUT ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. HEAD TO TOWN, GET CELL COVERAGE ON NEXT RISE AND CALL AHEAD TO NEAREST FORD DEALER FOR DIRECTIONS. ANOTHER PASS IS BETWEEN US - 4TH OF JULY, A TALLER ONE THAN THE SHUTDOWN EVENT. IDAHO DEALER ([XXX], LAKE CITY FORD) KINDLY SQUEEZES ME IN. SEE ENGINE LIGHT ON. TECH [XXX] SEES LIGHT AND RUNS SCAN AND SEES NO RECORD OF ANY CODES IN ANY SYSTEMS. WHAT THE?? NEXT MORNING, FORD TOLD DEALER THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT A CODE DID NOT REGISTER IF THE LIGHT WAS ON. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I TRAVEL FOR WORK AND DRIVE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF RENTAL CARS. I HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING OCCUR IN MORE MODELS THAN I CAN REMEMBER. VEHICLE ACCELERATES WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES. ROOT CAUSE: THE ELEVATION / SPACING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR. OPERATOR ERROR CONTRIBUTES TO THE PROBLEM ALSO. PEOPLE HAVE A TENDENCY TO ROLL THEIR FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. DEPENDING ON THE ANGLE OF THEIR FOOT, THE EDGE OF THEIR SHOE WILL HANG OVER THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN THEY APPLY THE BRAKE THEY ALSO APPLY THE GAS. THE ENGINE TORQUE OVER COMES THE BRAKE FRICTION AND THE CAR ACCELERATES. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THIS HAPPENS I CAN REMOVE MY FOOT, RELOCATE IT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SAFELY STOP. SEVERAL TIMES MY SITUATION REQUIRED ME TO HOLD THE BRAKE / GAS PEDALS IN POSITION AND QUICKLY USE MY LEFT FOOT TO APPLY THE BRAKE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. WEARING MY HEAVY BOOTS WITH A LARGE SOLE INCREASES THE FREQUENCIES OF THESE INCIDENTS.
