an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 100
Against the median year of the Ford Maverick Hybrid. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 13

29%.
How 2022 compares with every other Ford Maverick Hybrid
NHTSA files every complaint against a named sub-assembly, not just a
system. This is the difference between knowing it was "the engine" and
knowing which part of it — the list to hand a mechanic.

NHTSA investigations into the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Loss of Motive Power
On January 31, 2024, The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24002) to investigate loss of motive power allegations in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. Consumers reported a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure either while driving or after stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. The vehicles generally could not be restarted, and the incidents were commonly diagnosed by dealerships to a failed 12-Volt (12V) battery. On April 12, 2024, Ford issued safety recall 24V-267 covering 456,565 MY 2021-2024 Ford Bron...
Recalls on the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

STEERING
While driving at normal speeds. Car completely stopped working. Dashboard flashed to get to safe area. I could not shift the car neutral. Steering became stiff. The lights and infotainment was still on but the car had no power to accelerate. Had this been on the highway I would have been in a collision since my car went to the right very quick. Once car was stopped could not shift to neutral.

BACK OVER PREVENTION
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while reversing from the driveway, the backup camera display had malfunctioned and the image suddenly froze. During the failure, an inaccurate image was displayed which caused the driver to crash into a small tree. The vehicle sustained rear-end body damage and the tree was damaged. No injuries were reported and no police report was filed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V684000(BACK OVER PREVENTION) but the remedy was not yet available. The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced that same failure listed in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 32,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

SEATS
Front passenger seat, seat heating element malfunctioned - created a small fire and smoke produced. Dealership diagnosed as 'a couple of hot spots that burned through the cover.' It is available for inspection. Fire hazard caused burn on passenger, smoke inhalation. Smoke/fire started while driving at 55mph, resulted in sudden breaking and pulling off the road. Yes, the dealer found hot spots that caused the burning - but take no responsibility for the issue as that car has 56000 miles. No, it has only been inspected by Ford dealership. No warning lamps, no symptoms until physical burning sensation prior to the smoke/fire.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
On 7-2-26, my 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid was brought to College Station Ford to receive the remedy for mandatory Safety Recall 24S59 (NHTSA Campaign 24V684000) regarding the frozen Rear View Camera display image. Prior to this service, the vehicle’s electrical, starting, and hybrid systems functioned flawlessly without error.Immediately following the completion of the recall service, which required a software flash of the Connected Touch Radio/Audio Control Module (ACM), the vehicle suffered a catastrophic module network failure resulting in a permanent no-start condition. The vehicle's Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Body Control Module (BCM) have glitched into a permanent High-Voltage System Isolation Lockout loop.Independent professional laboratory load-testing has certified that the vehicle's low-voltage 12V auxiliary battery is healthy, fully charged, and completely functional. However, the vehicle can currently only be turned on by attaching an external 12V jump-pack directly to the battery system. This external voltage spike manually overrides the corrupted software communication loop, forcing the vehicle's electrical relays to close. The dealership has refused to remedy this botched recall programming, claiming the physical hybrid high-voltage lines have suddenly failed. Because a low-voltage 12V jump-pack cannot power or repair broken high-voltage traction lines, the vehicle is suffering from a software-induced safety lockout directly caused by the failed execution of Recall 24S59.This presents an active, extreme safety hazard. A hybrid powertrain suffering from un-remedied module communication failures and high-voltage isolation fault lockouts risks a sudden, unexpected, and catastrophic loss of motive power while operating at highway speeds on public roads.I am filing this report because the manufacturer's official recall remedy has introduced a dangerous, debilitating safety flaw to the vehicle's primary powertrain loop.

Driving on highway, approximately 65mph when all of a sudden the "door ajar" symbol on instrument panel lit / sound dinged, and the passenger who had their elbow on the door screamed. The passenger side door unlocked and "opened" as in it unlatched. It did not open all the way for her to fall out, but it was no longer fully closed. This is a 2022 vehicle. This happened for the first time in 2026 after 34k miles. There is an active recall for the same make / model but for some reason my VIN is not included. I'm pretty sure it should be after this experience.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 55-65 MPH, the vehicle shut off. The driver was unable to pull over to the side of the road. The driver was able to jumpstart the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred while pulling into a parking lot. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be picked up due to safety concerns. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that a new 12-Volt battery cable overlay was needed, and the current battery cable needed to be disabled. The dealer related the failure to the Ford Customer Satisfaction Program: 22B39 (2022 Maverick HEV No Start Condition), but the contact was informed that the Customer Satisfaction Program had expired. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied assistance. The failure mileage was 80,000.

My 2022 ford Maverick is constantly sometimes several times a day and sometimes several times a week , but since 6 weeks after purchase I have been getting powertrain fault , engine fault and hybrid battery fault alerts from my ford pass my check engine light comes on my s service wrench light comes on also and my vehicle has reduced power. As well as my battery is constantly needing to be jumped. The dealership says my Battery is fine although I’ve already replaced it twice at my exspence. I’ve had to pay for diagnostics and pcm updates supposedly to fix these problems but no resolve. My vehicle goes into reduced power while driving 75 mph up the interstate and will not excellerate causeing the vehicle to coast to a stop. After sitting a while it can be started and driven. Today I received all three faults at 10:20 am so I went to my ford.com and done a health check and it says my vehicle is healthy with no engine or power train faults. But my ford pass alerts , my dashboard warning lights , and the performance of my vehicle says otherwise. I have been put in many situations on high speed roads and my vehicle will not accelerate. Often times it is necessary to jump my battery for I can move my vehicle. These issues are a constant safety hazard to all the drivers on the road when a vehicle suddenly loses power at high speeds. After 4 years of fighting with ford for a resolve I need help. I have seen numerous recalls issued addressing these very issues but they are not issued for my vin although the data on the recall states the recall pertains to vehicles made at the hermacillo Mexico plant . Which mine was on Dec 2021. I feel like my vin somehow is being overlooked and I’m not recieving the recall for the repairs. I also believe that due to the electrical issue my truck can not retain the obd codes. I have taken my vehicle to several dealerships all telling me different resolve which I pay for and no resolve. Just picked up vehicle after having a new battery installed. Was getting pop up on dashboard every few seconds that electrical saving mode was active. Then all of a sudden the truck shut off while driving about 45 mph on a busy road. Dash said switch to neutral to start vehicle which i tried but nothing happened. Truck coasted to a stop and would not start or even shift into neutral to push it off of the road. The dashboard was flashing pretty much every warning possible including stop safety, shift system failure, parking brake , battery saver active etc. The truck continued to not start or shift. Tow truck was called and it was towed home.

I received the 2022 Hybrid Ford Maverck XLT on March 2023, and had first 12V battery replacement on August 2023 as it was dysfunctional leading to car stalling. On 01/11/2026, the truck suddenly got stalled during drive due to the dysfunction (8.0V) again of the 12V battery, which triggered several error codes. The 12V battery was replaced again on 01/12/2026. I drove the truck home and found later that system alert with "Electrical Power Saver Active". The truck stalled again on 01/13/2026 at traffic light near school zone. The police had the truck towed to Tire Express per SOP. The truck was then diagnosed at local Ford dealer as: "multiple accessory / entertainment modules have software level that may be contributing to 12V battery drain / degredation". Obviously, this is the truck defect can may pose catastrophic risk to driver and surrounding drivers. I searched Google and found more 2022 Maverick with such serious issue! My total cost of repair and towing from this defect is $1145.11. Thank God that my family was safe during the sudden stalling while driving. I know there is no such recall but Ford should be responsible for the recall to avoid future risks and paying off my cost. Please consider this as a recall! Thank you!!!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Fuel tank failure at 18,000 miles and less than 3 years of ownership. I noticed that the vehicle had a strong gasoline smell when I was around it. When looking under the truck, I could see that there was a fuel leak coming from the fill pipe inlet into the fuel tank itself. Took the vehicle under warranty to the ford dealer, and was told that the hose clamp was loose connecting the fill pipe into the fuel tank itself. Was sent on my way with the vehicle, and noticed a smell of gasoline and fuel not even two months later. Took it back to the dealer and was told that they were unable to replicate it. Once the weather got cold again, took the vehicle back after noticing a much larger leak and smelling fuel, and am now being told by ford that the fuel tank does in fact need to be replaced as the tank is leaking from the fill pipe inlet. I am no longer under warranty and was quoted $1100 for this repair. Not only do I find this to be a safety concern as leaking gasoline is extremely dangerous and flammable (plus there are vapors in the air in my garage) but felt that my dealership did not do their due diligence to resolve this issue properly, and now I am on the hook for an $1100 repair that should’ve been taken care of when the vehicle was under warranty. No warning lamps were lit alerting me to this problem, I noticed it by smelling gasoline in my garage near the vehicle.
