When owners complained

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

NHTSA investigations into the 2021 Genesis G70

An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

1 investigation is still open.

Hyundai and Kia ABS Module Fires

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received eight Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) and eight Kia America, Inc. (Kia) Part 573 Recall Reports between 2016 and 2023. The combined 16 safety recalls all involve the antilock braking system (ABS) modules or Hydraulic Electronic Control Units (HECU) manufactured by the equipment supplier Mando. The Part 573 Recall Reports contain varying defect descriptions and differing remedy descriptions for the same or similar equipment supplied by Mando. Safety recalls included in this Audit Query (AQ) review include: Hyundai recalls 20V-520, 20V-543,...

Recalls on the 2021 Genesis G70

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2024403 7,579 units in Canada

Fuel System

Issue: On certain vehicles, the high-pressure fuel pump could fail. If this happens, the engine may run rough and the check engine light may turn on. This could also cause a sudden loss of engine power while driving. Note: For the Elantra, Kona and Veloster models, this recall only affects the N performance versions. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the engine control module software. The high-pressure fuel pump will be replaced, if necessary.

Recall 2024158 2,943 units in Canada

Engine

Issue: Under certain conditions, the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly could become damaged. If this happens, oil could leak onto hot components. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 3.3 L turbo (T-GDI) engine. This recall replaces recall R0159 (Transport Canada recall number 2019-350). Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety Risk: Oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly.

Recall 2021134 123 units in Canada

Brakes

Issue: On certain vehicles, a problem in the control module for the antilock brake system (ABS) could cause it to short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create a fire risk. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace fuse for the ABS module. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Recall 2020447 123 units in Canada

Fuel System

Issue: On certain vehicles, there could a problem with the low pressure fuel pump assembly. As a result, the flow of fuel to the engine could be partially blocked. Under certain conditions, this could cause the engine to stall. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the jet nozzle of the low pressure fuel pump assembly, and repair it, if necessary.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

Parked my car at home at 3pm on 11/20/25. At 3:07 my neighbor banged on my front door & told me my car is on fire. The fire was under the hood with flames emerging in front of the windshield. Called 911 as we got to safety. Within minutes, the car was engulfed in flames & we watched as it went up in flames, with popping sounds, glass breaking, alarms going off, & the siding melting off the house, etc until the FD got there. They put out the fire, & checked the home- the car was a total loss, & the front of the house needed major repairs. We had a fire investigator come within days seeing that the fire was hottest on the drivers side. A report was submitted for insurance, as well as claims to car and home. No warning lights, or problems appeared prior to. My insurance company did not report anything to Genesis, so I reached out on 1/3/26, & they sent me a letter offering a $1500 good faith settlement but wanted me to exclude/release myself from any further future claims, actions, etc.  They claim they were not given the option to do their own investigation (the car was in my driveway for 2.5 weeks). The insurance company said they'd reach out the them- so we did not. We looked at the pile of ash, & smelled chemicals for weeks. I countered their offer (as Genesis cars from this year (& more) have had fires & mine could potentially be included). They were reviewing my offer for a month & asked if I retained a lawyer, or just got guidance (I just got guidance). They declined my counter offer, & four days (2/17/26) later they overnight-ed their initial offer, stating I had 5 days to accept, or my case would soft close on 2/25/26. I recently asked to have the case reopened. Genesis continues to issue multiple recall notices affecting various models, increasing the risk of fire. I am now reporting this in the hopes someone else doesn't have to go through what I did. I have more documents if needed.

Summary of Reported Behaviors Lurching: Commonly reported, often deemed a software/adaptive issue. Brake Issues: Commonly reported, often attributed to pad-to-rotor deposits, or in some cases, the recalled ABS module. I started my car in my work parking lot. When I put into Drive the car lurched forward aggressively. I immediately applied the brakes and they pulsated but did not stop the car. My car continued moving forward across the parking lot and right over a large railroad tie. I am very afraid of driving the car. If someone were coming across the driveway they would have hit me or if someone was walking to their car I could have hit them. I have not driven the car again since the incident so no one has inspected the vehicle. The front collision warning started coming on the day before. I did not notice it on during this incident. This car is only 5 years old and I am now terrified to drive it!

2021 Genesis G70 engine shutting off at stops, often linked to the Idle Stop and Go (ISG) system or, in some cases, unexpected stalls. Possibly the automatic transmission's calibration leading to rough stops, or needing to restart the car if the ISG fails to restart the engine upon releasing the brake. 2.24.26:The vehicle stopped running and would not restart a busy intersection which involves my safety and other drivers. This has happened a couple times and I have replaced the fob batteries several times just in case that was the problem. It has not been inspected because it was just involved in another incident yesterday and I have been only making it to work as I am afraid to drive it. The warning came up on the dash after the car shut off. The vehicle can be picked up and inspected at any time. I do not have another vehicle or rental option.

ENGINE

The problem occurred while the engine was on, but I was idle in the drive thru of a local pharmacy. The car had been placed in park, but engine still running while waiting at the window. Suddenly, the car began to shake and multiple indicator lights illuminated then the car completely died. No indicator light was illuminated before this issue. I had driven the car on the interstate to and from a doctor’s appointment in a different part of town that morning with no discernible issues. The car smelled strongly of gas. I was able to restart the car to move it to a safe location for towing, but the engine struggled to start and the car continued to shake violently and more gas smell came from the car. It was turned off as soon as possible and it is now at the dealership for diagnostics and repair. There was a recent recall on my vehicle for a faulty high-pressure fuel pump. My car did not have a check engine light on and did not display the appropriate code to have the fuel pump replaced, so I only received a software update. Because the issue with the recent recall was sudden loss of power that could potentially cause a wreck, I feel that this issue is likely related to the same fuel pump problem but was missed under the previous guidance for repair. In this case, I was lucky it happened while sitting still instead of while I was on a major interstate, or I could have been seriously injured.
