NHTSA complaint #11751472 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2017 GMC Acadia Clarkston, MI

TIRES

Tire size is P235/65R18 I purchased these tires in December of 2024. I am concerned that these tires were built without the correct compound to be qualified as an all-season. I have never had tires this bad in snow, even though they are all season brand-new tires with full tread. I immediately bought a set of snow tires for the vehicle. I again tried these tires in snow in November of 2025 after they had roughly 10,000 miles on them, and again found them to be the worst tires in snow that I have ever driven. I am concerned these were a mis-build.

TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10-15 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormally loud blower motor sound while accelerating, before the vehicle lost motive power. The transmission was shifted to neutral(N) and pushed to the side of the roadway. The TPMS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that the transmission clutch had failed, and the transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed there was no recall coverage or warranty coverage on the VIN for the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

2019 GMC Acadia Milford, MI

TIRES:SIDEWALL

After roughly 7000 miles of use the 235/55R20 102V Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tire has a bulge in the sidewall. There are no scuffs or scars on the tire to indicate an impact caused the bulge, it appears there is some sort of separation within the layers of the sidewall. I asked a Goodyear retailer to inspect the tire and they said it's automatically considered impact damage if the bulge is in the sidewall and Goodyear would not warrant such damage even though there is no evidence such as cuts, scuffs or scars. The tire inflation is to manufacturer's specifications and the tire isn't loosing pressure. DOT 1M78AJA5R purchased Oct 22, 2023 date code 3622

TIRES

Michelin Premier LTX 235/55R20 Premature wear First set was replaced 12/11/2019 with 27,952 miles on vehicle. Complaint is the second set checked on 7/23/2023 with 49,122 miles on vehicle or 21,170 miles on tires showing premature wear measuring 6.1 to 5.9 /32nds groove depth. Tires are not going to make the 60,000 miles wear rating expected for such an expensive tire. Tires are rotated when vehicle is serviced, alignment was checked before installing new tires.

NHTSA complaint #11567153 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2014 GMC Acadia Midlothian, VA

TIRES:TREAD/BELT

10/6/2023 The vehicle shakes all over the vehicle when driving at highway speeds the shop I brought it to says that the tire tread is slipped and you can see the tread is wavy when running on the lift and is most likely the cause of the vibration. It is actually all 4 tires but a couple of them are the more worse than others. P255/55R20 is the tire size and were bought 9/9/2021 but only have 20K miles on them. I just wanted to report so if there is other complaints about this with the same tire something may be able to be done to resolve this in case this issue gets worse.

NHTSA complaint #11548668 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2021 GMC Acadia Romeo, MI

TIRES

Driving at 70mph on Interstate 69 near Charlotte Michigan at around 10 pm on Wednesday 8/23/2023. Passenger side front tire suddenly deflated. Limped the SUV into a store parking lot at interchange. Continental 235/65R18 106H tire was changed by road side service and spare installed. This morning , while examining tire and rim , found two long radial cracks approximately 50 to 75 mm in length on the outboard surface of the tire. The cracks are about 90 degrees apart. The vehicle has just under 34000 miles on the OEM installed tires. The reason I am contacting NHTSA is that the cracks do not look like road hazard/debris, rather a split in the sidewall. I have not taken the tire back to the dealer or a tire store. I did photo document the failure and cracks.

2017 GMC Acadia Mount Prospect, IL

TIRES

235/65R18 all 4 tires worn down after 27,000 miles, suppose to have 60,000 mile tread life. took my Acadia into the dealer for regular oil change and was informed all 4 tires were worn passed the safety margin. He told me there was a service bulletin about the tires but since my warranty had run out there was nothing he could do. He never mentioned the service warranty or that the tires were wearing severly.

2008 GMC Acadia at 161,043 miles Chunchula, AL

TIRES

BOUGHT FIRESTONE ALL SEASON TIRES DOT V60M AL1 . TIRES WORN DOWN VERY VERY QUICKLY ALL THE WAY ACROSS IN LESS THAN 5K MILES. VEHICLE ALIGNMENT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN DONE A FEW MONTHS PRIOR. DEALER TRIED TO CLAIM IT WAS ALIGNMENT , ALIGNMENT SHOP SAID IT WAS A TIRE ISSUE. I BELIEVE THE TIRES RUBBER HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPOUND FORMULA. FIRESTONE REFUSES TO COVER THE TIRES. SAID THAT EXTREMELY FAST TREADWEAR ISN'T COVERED. IMAGINE THAT! PAID $657.00 FOR A SET OF TIRES THAT WITHIN 5 MONTHS NEED REPLACING . HAD MY WIFE GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT AND BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. I WOULD OF MADE ANOTHER EXAMPLE OUT OF FIRESTONE LIKE WHAT WAS DONE IN THE 90S WHEN FORD EXPLORERS WERE TURNING INTO CRASH DERBY CARS DUE TO DEFECTIVE TIRES MADE BY THIS COMPANY FOR ODDLY A COMPARITIVELY SIZED VEHICLE.

2015 GMC Acadia at 2,101 miles Mcdonald, PA

TIRES

I HAVE GOODYEAR FORTERA HL TIRES ON MY ACADIA AND STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEM JUST AT 1 MONTH AFTER I LEASED MY CAR. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THAT I ENDED UP WITH A MAJOR FLAT TIRE & IT WAS JUST A BIG HOLE IN THE LARGE TREAD. SINCE THEN THE TIRES NEVER HOLD INFLATION...ALL OF THEM. I HYDROPLANE WHEN TURNING ON ROADS THAT ARE ONLY SLIGHTLY WET AND THE ENTIRE CAR SLIDES SIDEWAYS. I NOW NEED TO REPLACE THESE TIRES AT JUST 30,000 MILES WHEN THE SUPPOSED MILEAGE WARRANTY IS 60K. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT TIRE BUT THE PRODUCTION RECALL ENDED AT JUST TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO WHEN MINE WERE PRODUCED. HOWEVER, MY TIRES ARE DOING THE SAME EXACT THINGS THAT THE RECALLED TIRES DID AND THESE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AS WELL. THE TREADS HAVE CRACKS, SPLITS AND PITS IN THEM JUST AS THE RECALLED TIRES AND HAVE ISSUES WITH PSI/INFLATION AS WELL. THEY ARE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ON AND NEED REPLACED ASAP.
