My 2019 HR-V paint started peeling. Unfortunately 2019 is not one of the recall years for this problem. The white paint has started to peel and keeps getting worse and worse. I have read stories of others with my year HR-V getting the paint taken care of since it's obviously the same problem that is happening with the 2018 white HR-V's that have a recall. I am hoping Honda will also recall the 2019 to have this issue rectified. It is quite embarrasing driving around with chipping paint on the roof of my car.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a catastrophic CVT transmission failure in my 2019 Honda HR-V at approximately 97,500 miles. In May 2026, while driving in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, my vehicle suddenly experienced a complete loss of propulsion. Multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard simultaneously. Although the engine would rev and the vehicle could be shifted into gear, it would not move properly and became unsafe to operate. The vehicle left me stranded away from home and required towing. I incurred significant expenses for towing, diagnostic fees, transportation, lodging, and related costs due to the breakdown. After diagnosis, I was informed that the CVT transmission had failed and required replacement at an estimated cost of approximately $10,000. I later learned that Honda had issued Service Bulletins 21-046 and 21-047 concerning CVT belt deterioration and transmission issues in 2016-2020 Honda HR-V vehicles. These bulletins acknowledge that an incorrect PCM value could cause excessive pressure on the CVT belt, potentially leading to partial or complete belt breakage and sudden loss of acceleration. Honda also extended warranty coverage on affected vehicles due to premature CVT belt deterioration. My vehicle falls within the affected model years and experienced symptoms consistent with those described in Honda’s service information. Despite this, Honda denied my request for goodwill assistance, even though the failure occurred at relatively low mileage for a modern transmission and only shortly after the warranty extension period expired. I am concerned that this transmission defect creates a safety risk because it can result in sudden loss of acceleration or vehicle propulsion while driving, potentially placing drivers and passengers in dangerous situations. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate the CVT transmission failures affecting Honda HR-V vehicles and determine whether additional action is warranted.

Sunroof caused a leak in the vehicle cabin, under the front driver rug. So the water was coming up from the floor. This was after a heavy rain. I was told by Honda the drains were clogged and paid $1k for repair 5 months ago. I just recently noticed more water pooling on the rug after another heavy rain and now they say the seals on the sunroof are failing. I rarely use the sunroof. I purchased the car new. This is another $1k repair. It seems as if this is a manufacturer defect.

All of my braking/abs lights intermittently go on and off. My 2019 Honda HRV runs fine but when dealer looked at it they said it was the VSA and to replace would be over $4k. Dealer said eventually my vehicle may shut down if not taken care of. I am wondering if this is a common problem and if will be a recall?

The digital instrument cluster in this 2019 Honda HR-V suddenly failed, resulting in the loss of the speedometer, odometer, and dashboard display functions. The failure occurred without warning and is not due to wear, misuse, or routine maintenance. Operating the vehicle without a functioning speedometer or odometer presents a serious safety risk, including potential speeding, traffic violations, and accidents. Other warning indicators integrated into the digital display may also be inaccessible, further compounding the safety hazard. Honda has diagnosed the problem and quoted a repair cost of $2,166.08. Goodwill assistance was previously denied in my case, citing that the vehicle is out of warranty and not subject to a recall. The vehicle is regularly used to transport family members, including a pregnant passenger (due March 2026). Continued operation in this condition is unsafe and unacceptable. *Multi-use camera for safety fails Honda HRV 2019 due to overheating and or other malfunctioning reasons. Known failure, but Honda refuses to recall the cameras. Causes lights on light up LKAS, Collision Mitigation, Road Departure, Adaptive Cruise, Auto High-Beam. (Of course battery checked first, but battery in good condition) Firestone and Christian Automotive Brothers diagnosed nothing wrong with car apart from camera. Honda refuses to accept 3rd party diagnostic report. Honda refuses to inspect known defect without price gouging customer upwards of $2K. Right Honda of Scottsdale AZ refuses to reset/recalibrate and insists on all customers with this known issue pay $200 diagnostic PLUS new part $1,232.15 + tax (part 36160-T7A-A04) PLUS labor in excess of $1,000. No warning, etc prior to the lights going on associated with defective camera. This is unethical car sales, price gouging for defective safety feature, and puts driver and others at risk. This is a safety feature of the car and Honda's respsonbility to recall and resolve at no expense to customers. Please formally open an investigation to inform me swiftly if this $2K + malfunctioning safety feature will be recalled and resolved. Thank you. The fuel gauge on the right hand side malfunctions in cold/wet weather, causing information such as distance until empty, to become illegible. 2019 HONDA HRV paint began to come off the car at 3 years old. Now the car is 5 years old and the area of concern is growing. The paint is pealing off down to the base of the car structure. This is a safety issue because when it begins to rust, the car parts will fall off. The area around with windshield is pealing decreasing the structural soundness of the car. When it rusts the windshield will not be held in place. Honda USA: Anthony at 800-999-1009. EX: 88024 was contacted and reported that even thought this same make and model car was recalled in 2016-2018 they will not fix the defect they knowingly manufactured. I have had the car inspected by Fisher Honda Colission Center in Boulder, Colorado. They said it is the same paint issue they saw on the cars in 2016-2018. Where Honda did recall the vehicles.

Not sure of the cause, but my vehicle burst in the flames unexpectedly. Prior to fire, the vehicle was running very well and up to date on maintenance. We were driving and smoke started coming from the hood. Suddenly the screens/monitors turned off on the vehicle. We pulled over, off the street as quickly as possible. Heard popping sounds, exited the vehicle. Then it burst into flames. Police showed to the scene first. Fire department arrived shortly after to put out the fire.

I am not sure what part of the system is failing. While driving on the high the car just stopped no warning just stopped it went from 55- 60 miles an hour on 287 all the way to 20 and then stopped. This was all random. Then it was taken to a independent service who ran the codes and none of them stayed so i drove the car again and all that happened before happened once again. The independent service told me its the transmission and they are not sure why its happening he noted that these hondas have transmission issue

I have had an issue with my 2019 Honda HRV Sport. Black display on the odometer/fuel/oil gauge at start up, then went to gibberish then to display as normal once the car warmed up. Sometimes it would flash or not come back at all. I live in the Northeast and it started when temperatures started getting cooler. This is the first year. Dealer (Keeler Honda) says they have heard of this and wanted to charge me $1800 to replace it. They said they’ve heard of it happening in the HRV and the Fit. It’s dangerous when you can’t see how much gas you have. Also wondering if accurate mileage is being calculated.

8/9/24 was the first time we noticed the gas/mileage gauge disappearing. It would do this almost everyday for no apparent reason leaving the driver (usually my teenage daughters) not knowing how much gas they had left. This particular disappearance happens on a regular basis which is quite concerning not knowing how much gas you have left. Also on 8/23/24 a light came on that said check fuel cap along with the yellow check engine light, yellow parking brake and flashing park symbol. These lights stayed on minus the fuel cap light for about 3 weeks. They have disappeared with now with only the issue of the disappearing fuel/mileage gauge remaining an off/on issue (but as stated above usually on a daily basis.) We replaced the fuels cap in case there was an issue and also took it to a Honda dealership on 9/27/24. They didn't check diagnostics as the other icons had turned off, but the gas gauge was still missing. They said it wouldn't show codes since the icons were missing. I also called the Honda corporation regarding this safety issue as there are multiple reports of this happening to others on several Honda forums with Honda HRV ranging from 2016-2020. It usually happens in this manner with the fuel gauge disappearing first then other icons coming off/on.

Odometer/fuel gauge goes black and shows nothing on it. Has caused risk because I can not see how much gas I have and have to wait till the gas light turns on. It does it when it gets below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. I am unable to see my mileage, the temperature, level of gas I have, the time, etc. It will go back on when it is warmer out but will not when it gets cooler.

I was parallel parking and when I put the car in reverse and barely touched the gas it suddenly accelerated into the car behind me. It was so fast it shot backwards like a rock into the car parked behind me. This was not driver error. It is now with an independent mechanic so I do not know at this point if they can reproduce the incident. I did not take it to Honda as I wanted an independent an unbiased report on the car. No warning lights, etc. before hand. The car behind me had somebody sitting in it and he hurt his hand. BUT if there had not been a car parked behind me I would have shot out backwards into a very busy street. Or had somebody been walking behind the car the would have been killed. The body damage to both cars shows that the speed had to be high at impact, and given the small space between cars when one is parallel parking I would have had to put the "pedal to the metal" to cause the kind of damage that was sustained.

Failure of my Odometer/fuel gauge/ outdoor temp. This dial seems to go blank/black screen! This seems to happen in colder & wet weather. This could be a real SAFETY issue if my car ran out of gas on a 4 lane highway due to not being able to see fuel gauge! Also NOT being able to track mileage for oil changes or mileage for replacing tires! I am willing for NTSB or Honda to inspect my car!

The speedometer doesn't work in the cold which has happened more than once. This data on the cluster gives data for fuel (miles) amount of fuel in the tank, actual miles driven, percentage of oil… It needs to be addressed as a recall since too many others with the same make and model have this issue…

- My back windshield spontaneously shattered. - Yes, my safety and the safety of my passenger was put at risk. We were driving on the freeway when the glass spontaneously shattered. IF I had a child in the backseat of the car, they would have been covered in shards of glass. -The problem has been confirmed by the dealer AND by Honda themselves. They issued a Priority/Action notice in May 2023 addressing spontaneously exploding back windshields in 2023 Honda HRV's (my model). There has even been one other person report the SAME issue at my Honda dealership. Honda is not agreeing to repair my back windshield, even though they publicly acknowledged the issue. - There were no prior warnings before the event happened.
