NHTSA investigations into the 2021 Honda Hr-V
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Rear Differential Seizure
On November 29, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE 22-011 after reviewing field reports alleging rear differential seizure in 2018-2022MY Honda CR-V and HR-V vehicles equipped with all wheel drive. To date, ODI has not received any consumer complaints. Some of the field reports received alleged the vehicle’s wheels locked up with no warning while the vehicle was in motion. These vehicles were towed to a dealership. Examination of these vehicles showed the driveshaft had broken and the differential unit was completely damaged. The field reports cited a lack of oil due to...
Recalls on the 2021 Honda Hr-V
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the weight sensor for the front passenger seat may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the passenger-front airbag and knee airbag could deploy in a crash that doesn't require them to. Note: This recall is an expansion of Transport Canada recall no. 2024-059. If the weight sensor fails, the SRS warning light would turn on in the instrument panel. Safety Risk: An airbag system that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the passenger-front seat weight sensor.

Issue: Under certain conditions, the battery voltage could drop when starting the engine. If this happens, the display audio system may not start. As a result, the rearview image will not appear on the display screen when reversing. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2023-041. The software update completed by a Honda dealer during recalls HP35 and HP36 (Transport Canada recall no. 2023-041) may not have been effective. As a result, a second repair is required. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the display audio software.

My husband and I were driving down the road on the way home from dinner in the rain when the car suddenly started braking very hard but very quickly. I thought at first that my husband had braked a little too hard all of a sudden, but he said he did not. Before he could tell me that though the dash started lighting up. Brake system failure, electronic parking brake failure, hill start assist problem, power-steering problem, and many others - pretty much every safety sensor that could come on. I then worried we would not be able to brake when needed, but luckily we made it home. As soon as we were able to this morning, my husband brought it to the Honda Service to be checked out. We have to heard from them yet other that $230 to diagnose the problem. We were very lucky there were not others close to us when it happened. This could have been a very serious wreck if we were in traffic or going an even higher speed on the interstate(which we had been doing earlier).

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The forward-facing windshield lane assist monocular camera ceased working after only 44000 miles. This resulted in numerous hazard warning lights being activated in my dashboard. I went to the dealer where I bought the car, and they gave me an estimate for almost $2200.00. They are charging me $1649.00 for the part. I found the part (OEM) online for half that price. A search on the internet finds thousands of complaints about this part prematurely failing. I bought a new car for the safety features and now if I want to keep them I have to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a replacement part that Honda knows is bad. I feel I am being price gouged and that my safety as well as the safety of others on the road are being negatively impacted. NHTSA and Honda need to recall this part and replace it asap. thx

An electrical issue with the right-hand side gauge cluster. This contains the fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, temperature, & clock. Parts of the instrument cluster functions intermittently or shows scrambled, incorrect information. More recently it has turned completely off all together. The fuel gauge, odometer, and trip meter portion of the instrument cluster functions only intermittently. In most instances, the display turns on but shows scrambled, incorrect, or misleading information. This defect has created multiple situations in which we were unaware that the vehicle was close to running out of fuel, placing us at risk of becoming stranded in remote areas of our state (New Mexico). Although the low-fuel warning light does illuminate, depending on our location, it may not provide sufficient warning to reach a gas station safely. This issue was confirmed by a local Honda dealer and has existed since approximately one year after the vehicle was purchased.
