Electrical System across every Hyundai Tucson year
The instrument cluster malfunctioned suddenly leaving the control panel completely black (no odometer, speedometer, speed range, turn signal indicators, etc.). The driver was therefore unable to know what speed they were driving, how much fuel remained, and lacked any sort of signal that turn signals/blinkers were on or off. It was unsafe to drive and impossible to accurately comply with legal speed limits. Local Hyundai dealership inspected the car and confirmed that the cluster had to be replaced, which they did (required 11 total days of being unable to use the car).

COMPONENT: Infotainment main display screen. Still installed and available for inspection. FAILURE: The screen intermittently flickers, then goes blank with static. Occurs at unpredictable intervals including while driving. Ongoing and unrepaired. SAFETY RISK: The display is centered in the dashboard and houses the backup camera and vehicle controls. Flickering and static while driving creates a visual distraction, and the backup camera is unavailable when the screen goes blank. The malfunction now occurs often enough that it interferes with normal driving. REPRODUCED BY DEALER: Not reproduced during any service visit. Reported to three Hyundai dealerships: Pedder Hyundai, San Diego (May 2025): could not replicate, but accepted my video evidence and ordered parts. I relocated before the repair was completed. Hyundai Mountain View, CA ([XXX]): could not replicate. Declined to perform a diagnostic or open a warranty claim despite the same video evidence. Stevens Creek Hyundai, Santa Clara (Invoice [XXX], Aug 18-20 2026): road tested, unable to verify. Found stored code c2a2397, history in front camera menu. Infotainment software at current level. Road tested 94 miles without recurrence. Technician wrote: "If issue re-occurs, we recommend returning the vehicle to us for further diagnosis." No cause identified, no repair performed. Charged $315. I have provided video of the screen failing while driving to the dealerships and to Hyundai Motor America. INSPECTED BY MANUFACTURER: Inspected by the three dealerships above. Case opened with Hyundai Motor America Consumer Assistance in June 2026, unresolved with no written determination. Not inspected by police or insurance. WARNING LAMPS: None. No dashboard messages accompany the failure and it occurs without prior indication. First observed approximately May 2025, within weeks of delivery (delivered [XXX]). Current mileage 21,389. The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) warning light was intermittently illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and attributed the issue to inclement weather. The contact stated that while stopped, the vehicle was rear-ended because the brake lights failed to illuminate. The contact sustained lower back and shoulder injuries, was transported by ambulance to the hospital, and required ongoing injection treatments. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and repaired for rear-end and passenger-side damages; however, the cause of the brake lights' failure was not determined. Additionally, the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled and was struck on the front driver's side by another vehicle. The crash caused the vehicle to spin, and the front end detached. The air bags failed to deploy, and a system failure message was displayed. The contact sought medical attention the following day. The contact sustained a dislodged left thumb bone which required surgery, a cast, and injections for left arm pain, as well as shoulder, neck, hip, and aggravated lower back pain. A Police report was filed. The second failure had occurred at [XXX]. The vehicle was towed to the auto body shop at the dealer and repaired; however, neither the dealer nor the insurance adjuster determined the cause of the vehicle stalling. The contact associated the failure with an unknown recall notification. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was unknown. I bought my car in for recalls and they performed service. I got down the road when the HUD started going out over bumps. They could not duplicate it when I bought it back after picking it up. This was yesterday 7/16/26. They have had this car for a total of 18 days not including other issues that I have bought it in for. Today I am having issues with the instrument cluster and HUD going out randomly over bumps still. This is exactly what I explained when dropping it for the repair. This is resulting in me not being able to read the instrument cluster since it displays no signal on cluster or goes completely black.

I purchased a 2025 Hyundai Tucson in March of 2026. Shortly after the purchase the screen began to malfunction. The screen glitches continuously while driving and there is no way to turn it off. This creates a significant distraction and raises serious concerns about driver safety. Especially driving at night. The screen turns completely dark then all of a sudden comes back in super bright. Because of the glitching there is no way to get to the setting to possibly turn the brightness down. It also creates a loud noise for about 10 minutes then resets itself and start all over again. I notice there was a recall about the screens glitching previously and I reached out to Hyundai and they informed my VIN wasn’t apart of the recall so there was nothing that could be done. Because the vehicle is over 60K miles I am not able to use the factory warranty. I believe it is unreasonable for a vehicle that is only a 2025 model to experience a major electronic failure after such a short period of ownership. Regardless of warranty limitations, consumers should be able to expect that critical vehicle systems, particularly those affecting safe operation, will function properly. I respectfully request that Hyundai and/or the selling dealership review this matter and provide goodwill assistance by covering the diagnostic fee and repairing or replacing the defective infotainment screen. I believe this would be a fair resolution considering the age of the vehicle, the timing of the failure, and the potential safety implications. I have taken a few screenshots of the video I recorded to show what is happening. I am not able to upload the video so you can hear the loud noise it makes.

The head-up display and the digital display cluster turn off and on while driving. The digital display cluster seems to lose connection and will show a "NO SIGNAL" message. This will happen for minutes at a time. When this happens, the display is black and does not show speed or other important safety information. The vehicle has been inspected twice by the dealership; they are not able to replicate the issue. This problem began within weeks of purchasing the new vehicle.

Good morning the problems I am having with my 2025 are very discouraging. Started October of 2025, my tire light illuminated stated the tires were low when they are all at correct specs when using an air guage to check. November of 2025 while driving at night the headlights suddenly shut off briefly then came back back on. January of 2026 while leaving work the transmission would not shift, held accelerator pedal to floor but could not go above 20 mph all the way home for 3 miles. April of 2026 the right side of navigation screen went completely black, shut vehicle off twice and on third restart the screen reilluminated. June of 2026 same thing with the screen going black. I have had my Tuscon at the local dealer here in my town for supposedly a repair that they state was a "coaxel cable" behind the dash that was fixed that was causing this issue. I also had the recall performed for the front view camera software update but it is still showing not completed. This is very frustrating to be having experiencing these kind of issues on this new of a vehicle. Clearly something is going on with the software or something and the dealer keeps telling me they are not finding anything wrong. I am a service advisor myself at a small independent shop so I understand the terms they are using but something needs to be addressed to correct the issues that I am having. It is scary when driving and the screen goes black or driving at night and losing the headlight functions. I would appreciate if somebody will look into this and reach out to me to get some kind of remedy for why this is happening. I am paying alot for this vehicle and to say I am satisifed is an understatement. I have purchased Hyundai as my choice of vehicle due to the quality, great warranties and good reviews from other consumers however I am seriously thinking of exploring alternative makes as I do not want to keep going through this. Plus the engine consumes oil. I have attached p/w for review as well

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while in reverse, several warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel, and the vehicle suddenly reversed without depressing the accelerator pedal and crashed into a light post. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries sustained. The contact sought medical attention after being overwhelmed by the experience. A Police report was not filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the front-view camera was updated; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to Imperial Body Shop to repair the body damage. After the software update was performed, the contact became aware that the vehicle failed to turn off immediately, and several attempts were needed to turn off the vehicle. On another occasion, the contact was able to turn off the vehicle; however, the engine continued to run. Several attempts were needed to turn off the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer opened a case for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500.

On 5/14/2026, while driving southbound on I-95 with my pregnant wife and young daughter, my 2025 Hyundai Tucson (approx. 7,500 miles, purchased new 10/2025) experienced multiple critical safety failures. Two days prior, the heads-up display (HUD) intermittently failed to activate. On 5/14, traveling at 65-70 mph near [XXX] , the brakes auto-applied without driver input. Simultaneously, the instrument cluster and HUD went completely black, eliminating all speed and vehicle status information. This recurred intermittently. Near [XXX] , the brakes auto-applied with full force, locking all four tires and bringing the vehicle from approx. 70 mph to a complete stop on the active interstate. Two trailing vehicles spun out and left the travel lane to avoid rear-ending us. A multi-car pileup was narrowly avoided. The vehicle was taken to Pearson Hyundai in Midlothian, VA. They diagnosed and replaced a faulty wiring harness. Immediately after the repair, driving northbound on I-95 back to [XXX] (5/16), the lane keep assist/lane departure system began pulling the steering wheel into the adjacent lane without driver input, repeatedly and unpredictably at highway speed. The dealer repair did not resolve the all defects. Within a three days this vehicle exhibited: (1) total instrument cluster/HUD failure, (2) uncommanded emergency braking at 70 mph causing two other vehicles to take evasive action (3) uncommanded steering input into an adjacent lane. These failures created immediate risk of serious injury or death. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The cars speedometer screen and radio screen go black and sometimes flicker on and off. This makes it impossible to see the speed. Also the car stalls sometimes when this happens in traffic. The autonomous braking applies the brakes even when there is a large distance from other cars and objects to the point where it has almost caused me to get into an accident on numerous occasions. The driver attention alert comes on and off over and over again even though I’m fully focused on driving and well aware of what is going on and this sometimes happens in a sequence where all of the warning lights illuminate on dash. Sometimes all of the warning lights display on cluster after it goes black and then car says to shift to park when display goes back on causing safety concerns for me in traffic. In addition my sunroof glass is making a loud noise like it’s going to crack.

Vehicle began flashing check driver assistance for rear sensors repeatedly while traveling out of state on March 30th with an occasional flash of check AWD/4WD. On March 31st the vehicle flashed the warnings along with a variety of others flashing on the infotainment screen rapidly and shut off while driving. I was barely able to restart to get it safely into a parking lot before it shut down completely without restarting. The vehicle was towed to the Hyundai dealership that it was purchased from. The diagnostics show electrical and safety systems issues. The dealership and Hyundai USA has been less than transparent regarding a repair plan and potential completion date. It is currently April 21st with no end in sight. The vehicle feels completely unsafe to me and I regret the purchase wholeheartedly.

The car was backing out of a driveway in Reverse. Came to a stop to shift to drive, and recieved a "shift system malfunction! Service immediately" screen message and the car was locked in the middle of the roadway unable to be put into any gear or be turned off. It was a huge roadway safety issue. The tow driver had to search for a code or sequence of commands to put it into neutral to be able to be safely lifted onto the tow bed, and the vehicle was stuck in accessory mode, which effectively drained the battery.

Bought new, less that 400 miles in November 2025. Within 2 weeks dash board went blank/black. I consider this a driving distraction especially at night when nothing shows, no speed no gauges. Blackout time varies each occasion. Sometimes after a few seconds all warning light come on and stay on until vehicle shut off . Sometimes a NO GIGNAL message. Contiued after service visit with update to vehicle at about 7300 miles in January 2026. Service department acted like they have never heard of this issue.

Blindspot detection did not pick up car on my right side two times. Front collision warning is effected by the angle of the sun at certain times of the day. Dashboard dims randomly. Could be for a minute or much longer. Could dim on and off, or stay dimmed for over twenty minutes. Brought the car in twice for this problem. Claimed nothing found and tech reset the codes. Bought it in two weeks later, stating problem not fixed. Told them to check connection, suggested they might want to replace the cables, and its a known problem. Again, reset the codes. Only this time they fiddled with the dimmer control on the console and I can no longer adjust the setting.

During normal winter operation with the heater in use, the center console area becomes excessively hot. I have measured surface temperatures exceeding approximately 130°F using an infrared thermometer. The affected area includes interior touch surfaces, cup holders, and a factory-installed wireless phone charging pad. The heat appears to originate from HVAC ducting routed through the center console to supply the rear seat vents. Closing the rear vents does not reduce the console temperature, indicating heat transfer through the ducting rather than airflow. The condition is most severe after a warm-soak cycle (driving to operating temperature, briefly parking, then driving again). When a phone is placed in the intended storage or wireless charging area, the device overheats and triggers thermal protection warnings. The console surfaces also become hot enough to present a potential burn risk with prolonged skin contact. These temperatures exceed recommended ambient conditions for consumer electronics and lithium-ion batteries in a normal-use interior storage and charging location. The issue was reported to a Hyundai dealership. The service department stated the heat was caused by the rear HVAC duct and considered the condition “normal.” No repair, insulation review, or corrective action was offered, and no specific temperature measurements were provided in writing. Hyundai Consumer Affairs directed me to return to the same service department, despite the concern remaining unresolved. This condition occurs during normal vehicle operation and represents a potential interior thermal safety concern.

There was an accident involving this vehicle where another vehicle pulled out in front causing a collision. There was damage only to the front of the vehicle which caused several malfunctions. Prior to the impact the break assist did not operate which may have prevented the collision but when the impact happened the seat belts locked in place and the driver side window would not roll down nor would the driver side door open. This seems to be a safety hazard as if the vehicle were on fire how would the driver be able to get out? The problem was reported to the dealer, with no resolution. Issue Type: Intermittent Electronic System Failure / Critical Safety Hazard Description of Incident: A severe safety-related incident occurred while driving at night on 12/29/2025, at approximately 5:48 pm. Under fully dark winter conditions in MA, while the vehicle was in motion with the headlights set to AUTO, the following events occurred: Total System Blackout: All interior and exterior lighting systems suddenly failed simultaneously, including the digital instrument cluster, infotainment display, and backlighting for all illuminated buttons and controls. The complete failure of exterior lighting and interior displays resulted in an immediate loss of forward visibility and access to critical driving information. Duration: The blackout lasted approximately two seconds before the system appeared to reboot. Recurrence: Approximately ten seconds after the first incident, the same total blackout occurred again under identical conditions. Vehicle Status: The engine remained running throughout the incidents; however, the simultaneous loss of lighting and instrumentation created an extremely high-risk driving situation. This incident constitutes a critical safety failure. The vehicle had experienced repeated electrical system failures prior to this incident, and was previously presented to the dealer on 8/7/2025 for diagnosis and repair. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the malfunction and failed to take appropriate corrective action to address these issues: 07/13/2025: The Auto Stop function became inactive, and the vehicle failed to accelerate properly after stopping at traffic lights, creating a hazardous driving condition. 07/14/2025: The phone failed to connect to the vehicle’s infotainment system. 07/17/2025: While reversing in a parking lot, the Parking Collision Warning system failed to detect a moving vehicle behind the car. No audible or visual warning was issued, rendering the safety feature ineffective in preventing a potential collision.

This vehicle has had numerous problems since I leased it. To summarize, at times the vehicle randomly shifts out of the ECO mode, usually into the SNOW mode. The engine has also raced, hesitated, bucked, rattled and vibrated when trying to change gears. Sometimes, these actions are subtle and sometimes they are borderline violent. This happens more frequently when the engine is cold. Additionally, the AEB system has activated a number of times while in stop and go traffic, even though the vehicle in front was moving forward. On at least 3 of these occasions, i barely avoided being rear-ended by the vehicle following me. The final issue that I have noticed is a problem with the odometer. It has appeared to work normally most of the time, but I have noticed times where I didn't think the odometer accurately reflected the distance I had traveled. I was able to synch the odometer with the trip odometer on a local road that I was quite familiar with. The trip odometer registered 1.8 miles while the odometer only registered 1 mile traveled. All of these issues happened multiple times and are intermittent. I have had the vehicle to Hyundai dealers on 5 occasions, and they claim to have not been able to duplicate any of the problems that I have been consistently logging in to a "diary" that represents a list of when I have noticed these issues. I have been in constant contact with Hyundai, but they promised to send out a factory rep, then reneged, instead relying on the local service techs. Said techs had the vehicle for nearly 2 weeks, but only drove it for 16 miles (until I called AFTER a determination was made and they hurriedly drove it an additional 22 miles to give the appearance of a more complete exam), using less than a quarter tank of gas. To me, this wasn't a thorough exam and appeared to be a cover-up to avoid having to buy back the vehicle. Note: these problems have occurred on multiple occasions, therefore the date below is the lease date.
