NHTSA investigations into the 2013 Infiniti JX35
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2013 Infiniti JX35
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
Risk: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
15V681000
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.
Risk: If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

STRUCTURE:BODY:HOOD:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles manufactured June 20, 2012, to November 18, 2013, 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid vehicles manufactured July 18, 2013, to November 18, 2013, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles manufactured November 29, 2011, to June 14, 2013, and 2014 QX60 vehicles manufactured May 16, 2013, to November 18, 2013, and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles manufactured July 18, 2013, to November 18, 2013. In the affected vehicles the hood release cable assembly may have been installed incorrectly preventing the latching claw from fully engaging. The secondary latch may remain in the open position when the hood is closed.
Risk: If the primary hood latch is released and the secondary latch fails during operation of the vehicle, it could cause the hood to open during vehicle operation impairing the driver's vision, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
14V138000
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, and Sentra, model year 2013 NV200 (aka Taxi) and Infiniti JX35 and model year 2014 Infiniti Q50 and QX60 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the occupant classification system (OCS) software may incorrectly classify the passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.
Risk: If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger airbag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.
13V445000
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP
Nissan is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles manufactured April 18, 2012, through September 20, 2013; model year 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles manufactured September 15, 2011, through January 16, 2013; and model year 2014 Infiniti QX60 vehicles manufactured January 17, 2013, through September 20, 2013. In the affected vehicles, during light braking on rough roads, the antilock brake system (ABS) brake pressure output software may lead to an increase in stopping distance.
Risk: The increased stopping distance may increase the risk of a crash.
13V069000
AIR BAGS
Nissan is recalling certain model year 2013 Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, Sentra, and Infiniti JX35 vehicles. Sensors within the passenger Occupant Detection System (ODS) may have been manufactured out of specification. This may cause the system to malfunction and permanently suppress the passenger airbag.
Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash necessitating airbag deployment and the passenger airbag is suppressed, there may be an increased risk of personal injury.
12V398000
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
Nissan is recalling certain model year 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles manufactured from February 15, 2012, through June 22, 2012. Due to an assembly issue, the fuel transfer tube may be misrouted inside the fuel tank. As a result, the fuel level float may be prevented from dropping as the fuel is consumed and the fuel guage may read a fuel level higher than actually exists.
Risk: If the fuel guage does not accurately show when the tank is becoming empty, the vehicle may run out of gas unexpectedly, stalling, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 2016179257,130 units in Canada
Seats And Restraints
On certain vehicles, a defect in the occupant classification system could allow an adult sitting in the front passenger seat to be classified as a child or an “empty seat”. This would suppress the airbag, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: For affected Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue and Sentra vehicles, dealers will reprogram the airbag control unit and the occupant classification system control unit. For affected Leaf, NV200, Pathfinder, Q50 and JX35/QX60 vehicles, dealers will replace the occupant classification system electronic control unit.
Recall 2015491184 units in Canada
Airbag
Certain vehicles serviced as part of recall 2014-093 or which had the Occupant Classification System (OCS) module replaced during servicing may have been fitted with an incorrect replacement OCS module. An incorrect OCS module would impair the effectiveness of the OCS, potentially failing to properly classify an adult passenger seated in the front passenger seat. This could increase the risk of injury to the occupant in a crash. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the OCS module.
Recall 201503115,972 units in Canada
Other
On certain vehicles the hood release cable assembly may have been installed incorrectly, preventing the latching claw from fully engaging. This could cause the secondary latch to remain in the open position and allow the hood to open suddenly while driving if the primary hood latch was not engaged properly or accidentally released. This could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will adjust the angle of the hood release mechanism to provide additional length to the release cable.
Recall 201409360,022 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles, the front passenger seat occupant classification system software may incorrectly classify the passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult. If this occurs, the passenger airbag would be deactivated without the illumination of the airbag warning lamp. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the occupant classification system.
Recall 201335513,587 units in Canada
Brakes
On certain vehicles, incorrect antilock braking system (ABS) calibration may result in longer than expected stopping distances during light braking on rough roads. This could potentially increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update the ABS system software.
Recall 2013118876 units in Canada
Brakes
On certain vehicles, the front brake caliper mounting brackets may have been manufactured incorrectly and could fail, which could result in a loss of vehicle control. This could also increase stopping distances. Both issues could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace one or both front brake caliper mounting bracket(s).
Recall 20130797,796 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles, sensors within the Occupant Detection System (ODS) may have been manufactured incorrectly. This may cause the system to malfunction and permanently suppress the passenger airbag. Failure of the passenger frontal airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the ODS sensors.
Recall 20122771,116 units in Canada
Fuel System
On some vehicles, due to a misrouted fuel transfer tube inside the fuel tank, the fuel gauge may read higher than the actual level in the fuel tank. This could cause the vehicle to run out of fuel without notice. Engine stalling would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road condition, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel transfer tube and reroute if necessary.

SEATS
My Infiniti driver's seat malfunctioned, crushed and pinned me, and ripped my hip out of socket when I was extracted. I'm being scheduled for surgery for a labral tear. Seat malfunctioned again in the Infiniti Roseville parking lot, and the Infiniti agent stated, on video, that the seat "motor is going out." The supervisor on duty, Micah, refused to fix the seat and Infiniti Roseville texted that the death trap seat is "operating as designed." I have the video clearly showing the seat malfunctions and is a danger to myself, my children and everyone on the roadways. The officer attending the scene when I was trapped and injured stated I'm lucky to be alive, because if the seat malfunctioned while I was driving and the airbag went off while I was pinned to the steering wheel, I would be dead. The dash had every light on possible when the seat malfunctioned and froze entirely. The car is available to be inspected, and I'm terrified to drive it if the seat is plugged in because it will crush me again. Photos and videos available if I can email them.

SUSPENSION
The front and rear subframes of my 2013 Infiniti JX35 has experienced severe corrosion, perforation, and structural weakening, resulting in an unsafe driving condition. The corrosion is extensive enough to compromise suspension geometry, stability, and overall vehicle control. A structurally compromised subframe poses a serious risk of loss of control, increased stopping distance, and potential crash. A certified mechanic confirmed the vehicle is unsafe to drive due to imminent risk of subframe failure. This defect is premature, systemic, and well‑documented across the Infiniti JX35/QX60 and Nissan Pathfinder platforms.

My transmission has been going in and out while on the highway and main roads, jumps when taking off at lights and sounds like it’s not shifting gears causing a safety risk to me and my family and other on the road. I service my transmission fluid as recommend in the handbook and online reporting. infinity has a factory warranty on my vehicle but when I check the recall list it doesn’t show any recalls. I’ve been experiencing this with several jx35 infinity’s due to the cvt transmissions and would really like to have this as a recall because it’s such a common issue with these vehicles. I’ve had the same vehicle prior to this one and paid to have the transmission replaced but it still had the same issues down the road.

While driving on the freeway, the vehicle's driver assistance system suddenly became unavailable. Although the car was still able to move, the transmission would not shift gears. The engine RPMs rose unusually high — when applying pressure to the gas pedal, the RPMs could reach 4,000 to 5,000, but the vehicle accelerated very slowly. I could only maintain a speed of around 50–60 mph. It felt like the transmission was stuck in one gear and the power was not being properly delivered to the wheels. This limited acceleration and loss of responsiveness created a significant safety concern on the freeway. The following day, the check engine light turned on. I took the vehicle to AutoZone for a diagnostic scan, which returned multiple fault codes: P0840 (Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch A Circuit), P0715 (Input/Turbine Speed Sensor A), and P0746 (Pressure Control Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off). After researching the issue, I found that many other Infiniti JX35 owners have reported similar failures involving the CVT transmission. This appears to be a recurring defect that significantly affects drivability and safety. The repair estimate I received is over $4,000, and the vehicle remains in a compromised condition. I am reporting this as a safety concern involving powertrain failure, elevated engine stress, and loss of acceleration control.

The subframe on this car has severely deteriorated causing it to be unsafe to drive. Had 2 individual repair shops to inspect and they both shops said it is too dangerous to drive. This car was bought new and one family owned. The car has 130,000 miles and is in pristine shape. We have been driving car until we heard a noise in rear of car and immediately had it inspected. How many other lives could be in danger because of this issue. Have reported this to Nissan and exoculated it, they have no interest in seeing this car and the potential for it causing fatal accidents without individuals being aware of the dangerous subframe.

POWER TRAIN
I was stopped at a stop sign. When I tried to make my turn/proceed my vehicle putted through the turn. It wouldn’t go over 5 mph it seemed. Luckily I made it out of the way before the oncoming traffic got to me. I pulled over turned the car off and then back on & it worked good enough to get me home. I took it to a mechanic and was informed it was the transmission. I did some research and found this is a common issue with this vehicle. For some reason my vehicle is not listed on the recall list, though it is exhibiting all the same issues others reported. Car is currently sitting until I can afford a new transmission. Sadly I’m still making payments on it.

AIR BAGS
Airbag light continuously flashes, I read that there were recalls with Nissan/Infiniti airbags and my model and year was included so I took it to the dealer to have it checked. Infiniti of Lynnwood can't find the problem, they said all the sensors were fine and diagnosed it as; "98820-3JA9B - Sensor-Side Airbag center. Airbag diagnosis sensor to start, this is the first step, will have to test further if not corrected after replacement". The service dealer said that it's the first step to figure out what's wrong, the quote was $2,120.96, he said it might fix it and can be a money pit. My concern is that my car might have been missed in the airbag recall.
