The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with air bags failure. The contact was informed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to pass State Inspection due to the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
NHTSA complaint #11753934 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I am reporting a potential safety defect involving my leased 2023 Infiniti Q50, VIN [XXX]. In 2024, I brought the vehicle to the dealership because the passenger seatbelt warning activated even when the passenger seat was unoccupied. I was told the condition was caused by objects triggering the passenger seat sensor, and no further repair was performed. On XXX, I returned to the dealership for a routine oil change and again reported that the seatbelt warning problem was continuing. I was initially informed that a component in the passenger seat required replacement and that the defect affected the passenger-side airbag system. I was later informed by the dealership that the defect affects both airbags, not only the passenger-side airbag. The dealership advised that the required replacement part must come from Japan. As of XXX, the part has not arrived, the repair has not been completed, and the vehicle remains awaiting the necessary part. My concern is that the airbags may have been inoperative or compromised for an extended period after I first reported the related warning issue in 2024. My wife and daughter drove and rode in this vehicle believing its safety systems were functioning properly. Had the vehicle been involved in a collision, they could have faced a substantially increased risk of serious injury. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can investigate whether this is an isolated defect, a dealer diagnostic failure, or part of a broader safety problem affecting other 2023 Infiniti Q50 vehicles. Air bags failed. Auto has 28,000 miles and has no accidents. Warning light showed that airbags were not working June 2026. Auto brought to dealer, and it is a very costly job to fix. Auto just out of warranty in years not miles. Infiniti in previous years has had a recall on their cars, but not my VIN number for failing airbags. This is a manufacturing defect, and it should not have to cost me. Infiniti has offered a partial discount.
NHTSA complaint #11746066 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2018 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front passenger OCS sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,200.

The passenger seat occupant sensor is on. Dealer confirmed the code is related to a bad sensor so even if someone is sitting in the passenger seat and we are in an accident the airbag will not deploy. The dealer said a recall exists for earlier models but not for the 2017 even though they say it’s the same components. They want to charge me between $6,000 to $8,000 to repair which is almost as much as the car is worth. This unfortunately is cost prohibitive at this time so we are driving with the known risk. The light has been on for a couple of years now as we were hoping an additional recall would come out but it hasn’t which is why I am submitting this report.

I had a passenger seat belt light on and took it to Jim Coleman Infiniti in Bethesda,MD. They then were going to charge me a diagnostic fee to fix it, but instead proceeded to perform a zero point seat reset and got the error code B00A0 and then the passenger air bag light came on. They subsequently said that the vehicle was not covered under any recall or warranty and said that the seat needed to be replaced and informed me that it would be around $8000 at that time. Now it must be more. Looking at the recall campaign 16V244000 my vehicle does not qualify since it is one model year later, but I have seen others have the same issue that I have with the 2017 Q50. There is infact one in Florida that has a similar experience as mine. Talking to the dealer and Infiniti neither wanted to do a goodwill jesters and would only reduce the cost by a few thousand dollars. That still meant that I would need to put out more than $4000 to get a safety issue that should be covered. The symptoms and error codes are exactly the same. So I ask that you extend the recall campaign to the 2017 model year as well for the Q50. It is a safety hazard that will be present on the streets. The dealer also refuses to do the module reset saying that it will fail again. Pleas ask Infiniti to cover the cost of ensuring this critical safety for the passenger side is resolved for all model years that have the error code from the recall.

The airbag/srs light is on. I've read on multiple forums that this is a common occurrence with this model and year of Infiniti. It did not come on as a result of any accident/incident.
NHTSA complaint #11692169 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Airbag light turn on, on my dashboard, I checked it with a professional OBD2 scanner and shows a code which indicates a fault in the Occupant Detection System (ODS), which the scanner says it is very common for my vehicle. This puts my passengers at risk due to an airbag system fault. My vehicle has not been in an accident, nor has my passenger seat been messed with. I have spoken to other individuals with the same vehicle, also checked the forums for my specific vehicle and almost all of them have the same issue with the ODS, with no recalls or warranty resolution from the dealership. This is a common issue. It is concerning because there is a pattern of the ODS being faulty by no fault of our own but no resolution or recall.

* the passenger airbag light came on July 2025. I was not in a accident the light just came on. * 7/29/2025 I took my car in for service at Infinity of Las Vegas (the only Infinity dealership in Las Vegas) I asked to check why the airbag light was on. I was told the occupant sensor unit was abnormal. Sensor and module internally shorted out. Recommend to replace passenger front seat frame assembly (only available as a 1 piece both sensor and module internally shorted seat frame Assy). @ $ 8678.76. Because it’s a different seat from the original seat, I would have to also replace the seat belt. @ 116.87. * It is not recommended to drive a car with the air bag light on. This car is my only source of transportation. * on August 4, 2025 I took my car to Auto Dynamic Services and they suggested initial repair was to replace the Occupant Detection Module. The part was ordered from Nissan, when they received the part it was an updated part design which was slightly larger with more pins than the original part and could not be used on my car. They reordered the part from another Nissan retailer ensuring it matched the original part for my car. Now it’s Aug. 27th, 2025. Auto Dynamic received the correct replacement module. Unfortunately the part was replaced and the airbag light came on again. They also stated the seat would have to be replaced in order for the airbag light to go off. For around the same price. It cost me 1800.00 to find this out. * I do not have money to resolve this issue especially if the driver airbag errors next, I am fearful of the unknown driving around with the airbag light on. If in an accident possibly not being covered because I was driving with a know issue. Or the bags just deploying randomly. * On [XXX] I traded a perfect running car in, I did not receive much on the trade as the airbag light is on. I can drive safely and register the car when required * it looks like there was a recall but the Q50 2.0 turbo was not included. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INF

Within one month of purchase, the airbag warning light illuminated and has remained on continuously. A separate dealership later confirmed the airbag system is defective and may not deploy in an accident. This is a serious safety defect that was not disclosed to me at the time of sale. Additional Issues: •On July 14, 2025, I dropped the car off for prolonged starting issues. I was told the vehicle had six faulty fuel pumps/injectors. •I have not had possession of the car since July 14. •On August 30, 2025, I received an email from Nissan of Orange Park stating the car was “completed and ready.” When I called the next day, I was told the car was not at Nissan at all, but at Infiniti, with no clear repair status or timeline. Concern: This is a federal safety defect. I request NHTSA’s review and investigation into Infiniti/Nissan’s handling of defective airbag systems in this vehicle and the misleading communication surrounding repairs.

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the passenger’s side air bag off warning light remained illuminated constantly. The contact stated that the warning light was also present while a passenger was seated in the seat. The contact used a diagnostic scanner to identify an abnormal voltage to the passenger’s side air bag sensor. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V244000 (AIR BAGS). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 36,000.

My airbags are currently disabled due to a faulty occupant detection system. I see that this was an Infiniti recall on many2017 Q50s, but my car is not included in the recall. The dealership confirms that my car is not part of the recall. The specific part involved in the recall is the front passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS), which triggers the error code being produced by my car.

Upon driving when purchased the Engine Light for the Air Bags illuminated. Upon researching the issue the problem seems to be a common problem for vehicles of this make and problem. 90% of the time requiring the owner to take the vehicle to the dealership.Since it is a trend and ongoing I wanted to report the issue.

The seat belt light went on without a passenger and the dealer decided to perform a zero point reset on the passenger seat and that resulted in a failure and now the airbag light is on. This causes the passenger airbag to not be operational. Before it was just the seat belt. They are now asking for $8000+ to replace the seat and OCS module and they said that they would cut the price by 50% but that is still $4000. The seat belt is covered by 10 year warranty but the airbag is covered only 7 year. I feel that since the seat belt was the iniial problem that it should all be covered under the warranty. Searching online there are numerous other Infiniti owners are having the same issue with the passenger seat and they are all being told that the seat needs to be replaced. This looks to be like a fauly module issue and thiink that Infiniti should be responsible for the fix. This has been happening with models from 2014-2018 two different series of Q50 models. THIS CAUSES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TO BE NON OPERATIONAL AND FEEL THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF Q50 and other models on the road that are NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE!!!!

I was in a car accident during the summer, I was driving at speed limit when I came out the curve the car started sliding, and I went off the road and roll over at 4 times and ended up in a ditch upside in some water, but NO AIRBAGS went off I have pictures showing so, I try to tell the dealer I bought it from Car Max and even my insurance but no one seem to care but now I found this page. I also had a police on site and no ticket was issued to me since no proof of me driving recklessly I did have a police report but I can’t find it since it was back in the summer

I took the car into the dealership to diagnose the reason that I was getting a Seat Belt light and they said that the guide suggested to do a zero point reset on the seat. When they attempted this they said that it failed and now the system has an airbag light on. There is no more seat belt light on now for the passanger side, but there is a hard error code for the airbag system on the passenger side. The Dealership now says the cost to repair is over $8500 when the car is only valued at $10000. I saw that there was a voluntary recall on a 2016 edition and it said that if the zero point reset should fail then the OCS module needs to be replaced, but now they are saying tha the OCS module and Seat need to be replaced. This looks to be like an issue with the model itself. The reason this is a safety issue, is that now the airbags will not work on the passenger side. This is caused by the zero point procedure that Infiniti has instructed their techs to do. I believe they are causing issues and had this not been needed then I would not have had an airbag issue. If there was an airbag issue before this procedure then the symbol was not correct and was false. It was a safety issue since the Passenger side airbag will not deploy in this case.
