The worst model year for it is 2014.
The Steering Assembly is faulty in the vehicle. I purchase this vehicle as a used Certified preowned vehicle from Hart Infinity in Connecticut. I looked at several one year old Infiniti's as I had an accident in my 2019 and it was totaled. As I was looking, I notices that several of the vehicles had curb rash on the front rims as well as the one I purchased. After I bought mine in July 2024 I noticed that on uneven pavement the vehicle would pull left and right an I had to fight the steering wheel to keep the car in my lane. My safety was at risk because if I didn't maintain control I could crash into someone. I did some research on some sites and there was several people talking about the same issue. Some thought it was the run flat tires. I replaced my tires and still had the problem. Others thought it was the sway bar. I replaced mine with an after market to try to fix and that didn't fix it either. So then I went to the dealership and they checked it and did an alignment. It didn't fix the problem. After doing more research I found that a lot of people was having this issue. Since I had the rim rash on the rim when I purchase I thought maybe someone had an accident and something else was wrong like the lower control arm. I took it back again to another dealer and they said the control arm was fine and that I they did an alignment. I told them that it wasn't the issue that they did that last time and asked them to keep looking. They service rep said he talked to his head mechanic and he said that he just fixed that issue on another car and it was the steering assembly. Now the dealership is trying to charge me $5000 to repair the steering assembly and it was an issue with the car from purchase. After doing more research I found that they had issues with the steering assembly in previous models and there have been recalls. Please hold Infiniti responsible for putting people safety in jeopardy. They should repair a major flaw with there vehicle.

After starting the car the steering wheel jumps off center and the steering is all over the place. have to start the car again and the steering wheel jumps the other direction. I strongly suggest this is exactly what the June 13, 2016 NHTSA campaign number 16V43000 the software may reduce steering ability and increase risk of crash.the direct steering system my experience an error at vehicle start up altering the vehicle steering responsiveness and turning radius. Exact problem with this car. This car has been recalled for the driveshaft break NHSTA 24V470000

DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING EXPERIENCEING AT START UP ALTERING THE VEHICLES STEERING AND RESPONSIVENESS AND TURNING RADIUS DOES NOT WORK AND IS INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS A RECALL 16V430000 ON THIS VERY PROBLEM. HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN MOTORS THAT MY CAR IS NOT ON THE RECALL AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY MY SELF TO GET FIXED AND TO SEE IF THAT IS THE PROBLEM. READING THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:16V430000 THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING SYSTEM ON THIS CAR. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE RECALL!

DAS issue that I have been dealing with for two months now, issue is still not resolved even after taking out a personal loan for 6k to fix the modules at Douglas Infiniti, waited weeks for the modules, they replaced the modules, did the calibration but a new issue is happening where I'm losing control for a split second and the car would either pull to the left or right egregiously. I took it to back to Douglas Infiniti for the issue, they found code C13E9-00, cleared the code and did the calibration again only for the issue to happen again once I was close to getting home. Spoke with Martin the advisor and he is saying that he thinks its an issue with the rack and pinion and not a software issue. I bought the rack and pinion from infiniti's wholesale direct website, the rack and pinion came from Infiniti of Winston Salem, so it's an OEM rack and pinion, he said I should take it back to the shop where I got it installed and have them check their work, even though they were able to calibrate the system once the new modules were installed, certify their work and give me back to the keys to the car only for the issue to happen again. Took it back to DriveWorks Auto Center in Union, NJ and they couldn't find any issue with the rack & pinion, said I need a wheel alignment thought, went and got a wheel alignment. Driving home from work yesterday on [XXX] going down the hill and the car steering went out momentarily and the car started pulling to the right, straightened the wheel and now I was swaying to the right. NHTSA complaint #11745913 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Affected: Steering/Electrical/Direct Adaptive Steering, 50K miles While driving my 2017 Infinity Q50s under normal driving conditions, the vehicle suffered an instantaneous, catastrophic, and total failure of the power steering assist system without any prior warning or dashboard fault indicators. The sudden loss of steering assist immediately caused the steering wheel to become incredibly heavy and virtually locked, requiring extreme, dangerous physical exertion to maintain minimal control over the direction of the vehicle. Due to the violent and unpredictable change in steering dynamics at speed, I was forced out of my lane and ran over a curb and came moments away from experiencing a severe, life-threatening collision. The vehicle was rendered entirely undrivable and presents an immediate, catastrophic crash hazard. It had to be flatbed-towed to Infinity Valencia dealership. I am the original owner of this vehicle, and it has been meticulously maintained with exceptionally low mileage of 50,000 mile. Infinity previously issued mandatory federal safety recalls identical Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) "steer-by-wire" software and module failures on the 2014-2016 model years (e.g., NHTSA Campaign number 16V433000). While the manufacturer asserted that the underlying engineering and software defects were fully resolved for the 2017 production year, this incident definitely proves that the catastrophic safety defect remains active, unmitigated, and present in the 2017 model year. Infinity Consumer Affairs and corporate databases currently lack proactive safety campaign for this specific VIN, leaving consumers entirely expose to a known, severe safety liability. I am filing this formal complaint to urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to open a formal defect investigation into the 2017 Infinity Q50/Q50s steering architecture and compel the manufacturer to expand the safety recall before this unmitigated defect results in fatal accident.

Manually have to unlock the shifter to put into gear with a key and the steering wheel is at 90 degrees all the way to the right and won't move back to standard positioning while driving.

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel felt loose and made an abnormal knocking sound while making a turn. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to manually move the steering column from underneath the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved DTC: C1130 and C1138. The mechanic informed the contact that the failure could be related to the steering column, but a more detailed inspection of the steering system was needed to confirm the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,850.

Was making a left turn when the steering stopped working and the motor lost power, the adaptive steering quit working after approximately 15 mins. I started the car and it was working. Went a half mile made a right turn and it went out again. Shut off the motor tried to start it and could not. 20 mins later it started and has been working since. Dealer couldn't find the problem and wouldn't fix it, they also said that their were no recalls but I know that is not true. Infiniti had a law suit brought against them for the adaptive steering issue. If they fixed it why doesn't it work right.

Adaptive steering clicks and looses control. Steering wheel jerks back when self aligning. There was a recall for this I believe in June 2016. For 2015 infinity Q50’s but my VIN says that it wasn’t recalled but is the exact description of what is happening.

I’m reporting a recurring safety issue with my Infiniti Q50 involving the brake, steering, and acceleration systems. While driving, I’ve experienced the brake pedal becoming unresponsive, the gas pedal not reacting, and the steering wheel locking or feeling stiff, making it extremely difficult to control the car. The most recent incident occurred today, [XXX]. I had to stop driving immediately and had the car towed to an Infiniti dealership, where a full systems check was performed. However, since the issue didn’t replicate while there, the dealer said they could not determine the cause. The car is available for inspection if needed. The safety risk is severe: I could not stop or accelerate safely, and I struggled to steer — this put me and other drivers in danger of a serious accident. I have experienced this more than once. The dealership originally diagnosed worn brake pads, which I had replaced at an independent shop, but the problem continued afterward. I also showed the dealership photos of the warning symbol that appeared on my dash during both incidents. The car has been inspected by the Infiniti dealer and an independent mechanic, but no resolution has been found. No inspections have been done by police or insurance. Given the serious nature of this malfunction, I am requesting this be investigated as a possible safety defect. Transmission, Transmission Valve body, speed sensors. After transmission shifting issues while traveling the interstate I had to have the car towed to the dealership. After the multi point inspection was performed serveral recommended itmes related to the ongoing performance and SAFETY of the vehicle listed below: Transmission $10,446.65 Transmission Valve Body $3693.92 The diagnostic code P0720. Attached is the service bulleting stating they know this will happen and when it does here's how to fix it. Yet they have never recalled the defective transmission. When I contact Infiniti consumer affairs they simply say that they cannot help me because the vehicle does not have warranty. If i had warranty then I would not be reaching out to them for assistance in replacing the transmission.

Vehicle is tramaling or wandering at 50+ mph speeds. Making it dangerously difficult to keep between the lines without constant steering corrections. I have had car aligned and changed the tires. Still issue persists. There are several post online about this issue with the infiniti Q60 and Q50 models.

Passenger seat light remain on for 4 months the went away. Then the airbag light came on. Took it to Infiniti of Tampa where they supposedly done diagnostics. They cause additional lights to appear on my dashboard to include the steering hard to turn. When I purchased the vehicle in October 2016 I was unaware of any recalls. I found out about a month ago there approximately four recalls for 2016 Infiniti Q50.

I was driving down the highway and my car started to shut down and started to make a knocking sound inside the engine bay, putting at risk other drivers, so i turned on my hazards and pulled to the shoulder of the road, the car wouldn’t turn on so i called a tow truck. Took the car to dealer and stated engine is seized

Power steering failed while driving in parking lot looking for parking spot. Unable to turn wheel without hitting parked car. I was able to drive to end of the lot where there were less cars. Noticed that I was able to turn wheel so long as didn’t step on brakes. The steering wheel was also off alignment. This happed on a Saturday evening, next day car was fine all the warning were off. Spoke to service person explained what happened. He basically said if the car is running fine they can check it out but may not find the problem. Since the car was running fine until it wasn’t. Car was parked in garage turned on the car all warning lights go on. Made appointment for 4/3/24 drove car to dealership which is not to far. The warning lights still on and no power steering. Analysis many DTC codes found related to this system:B2512 4WAS SIG: C1B9000 DAST SYSTEM: C1138 4WAS CIRCUIT & C1A04 ABS/TCS/VDC CIRC. Correction Recommended to perform DAST calibration first before performing further diagnosis. COST $539.15 . They also did Multi-Point Inspection items requiring immediate attention Engine Air Filter COST $94.99 GRAND TOTAL $641.64 out of pocket. 4/3/24 picked up car. On that evening drove the car and as I’m pulling up on drive way power steering goes out again. I managed to get the car in garage. Once I’m in push button to close garage doesn’t work and car dies no power at all. Able to get car started by playing with battery cables. On dealership notes car was there 30 miles ago. Now they say wrong battery size. That battery was replaced by them on 2/28/22. Also the battery just past Multi-Point 2 days ago.New battery cost $232.78 now out of pocket $874.42.This is now 4/10/24. Drove that evening and front splash guard fall off had to tie wrap to hold whatever pieces are left. Took it to dealership they took no responsibility. I will need to replace it. I have all my receipts from them they are the only ones who have worked on my vehicle.
