The worst model year for it is 2022.
When sitting at the light my vehicle completely shut off. When I was able to restart the vehicle the power steering light came on. After driving for a few moments, the vehicle did the same thing and steering concerns continued. The vehicle was on two major roads with other vehicles around. This put myself, my son, and other drivers on the road in danger of being involved in an accident. The vehicle was taken to the dealership under the Florida Lemon Law. The aux and main battery were replaced. The representative from Stellantis denied our Lemon Law request of repurchase or replacement of this vehicle. By Jun 2026, under one year of ownership, the vehicle had already spent over 38 days at the dealership for service related issues: airbag issue, steering related failure issue, steering rack replacement, battery replacement, and now on July 9,2026 the vehicle attempted to shift into Park, the electronic parking brake engaged, and the vehicle became immobile while we were actively driving. This produced another safety concern for our family and other drivers on the road. The vehicle is currently with the dealership attempting to diagnosis this defect.
NHTSA complaint #11749693 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
My 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has experienced repeated safety-related defects involving the body, electrical, and powertrain systems despite 6 warranty repair visits. The vehicle has been out of service 72 cumulative days, and the current repair still ongoing. Before the most serious incident, the vehicle had already been returned to authorized Jeep dealerships multiple times for liftgate malfunctions. The liftgate repeatedly failed to open, failed to close properly, and exhibited intermittent malfunctions. These defects were repeatedly reproduced and confirmed by the dealer, and Wagoneer engineering was consulted to diagnose and repair the vehicle. The defects have not been permanently corrected. While driving on a multi-lane roadway with my children seated in the 3rd row, the rear liftgate suddenly opened without any warning light/message/alert/beep. This was the 1st time it had opened while driving. Personal belongings were ejected across 3 lanes of traffic, creating a risk of striking other vehicles or causing another driver to swerve or crash. My husband had to enter multiple lanes of traffic to retrieve our belongings before they were struck, creating an additional safety hazard, leaving us sitting in traffic in the vehicle. To my knowledge, the vehicle should not have permitted normal operation if the liftgate was not securely latched. Instead, the liftgate opened while the vehicle was in motion without any indication to the driver, eliminating any opportunity to react or prevent the incident. The vehicle has also experienced repeated lurching/harsh clunking when shifting into gear, and unexpected lurching/hard shifting and when on hills. Numerous warning lights, messages, and check engine lights have occurred since approx. 300 miles and have been dealer verified. Due to these defects remaining unresolved despite repeated repair attempts, I do not believe this vehicle can be operated safely. I am scared for my teen drivers and pedestrians in this vehicle.

On June 18, 2026, I was driving my 2024 Grand Wagoneer on a busy city road. As I approached a busy intersection, I stopped at the red light. When I attempted to move forward when the light turned green, it moved a few feet (putting us in the middle of the intersection), the vehicle seized and became immobile. Almost every light on the dashboard lit up. Several messages flashed back and forth on the screen including "Service transmission" and then "service electronic stability control". I immediately tried to use the SOS function, and when they answered, they were unable to hear me. A person in a truck behind me told me to put my vehicle in Neutral so that the vehicle could move out of the road as it was blocking traffic. When I tried to turn the gear dial, it turned, but the P light stayed on and the vehicle would not go into Neutral. I checked the parking brake and it was not on, nor would it engage. The vehicle being stalled, with zero ability to move put my children and I in danger as there was not a safe place to even exit the vehicle as traffic was completely surrounding us. I tried to turn off the vehicle, but the vehicle stayed in the "run" function even after being pressed. Emergency services was my only next choice. One more push of the off button and the vehicle finally turned off. I waited for 2 minutes and tried to turn the vehicle on again. It did turn on, showing the check engine light. I then was able to put the car into gear, and it moved. I moved the vehicle out of traffic to the next available parking lot. I immediately contacted the dealership and told them I would be having the vehicle towed there for inspection and I do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle again. Unfortunately, this is the 3rd time my car has put me in a dangerous situation in the middle of an intersection, the other 2 being false crash alerts (turning left in turning lane and car thought I was going into oncoming traffic).

Both battery continue to drain. The dealer has replace the batteries five times. My car has been at the dealer repeatedly. Most recent incident the vehicle has been with the dealer since April 10, 2026. As of today June 1, 2026 it still remains at the dealer. They have not been able to tell the cause of the drain. It also my understanding there us another grand wagoneer at the dealer with the same issue.

Car engine completely shuts down at highway speeds sudden loss of throttle/power at highway speed * RPM surging or erratic behavior * dashboard/light flickering * vehicle entering limp mode or shutting down * no-start condition afterward * then the vehicle “magically” works again later * dealership unable to reproduce it * sometimes no stored codes

This issue has happened three times. I am on the highway going 70mph, the RPMs fluctuate, the headlights go out and then I lose propulsion/unable to maintain or increase speed. This is a safety concern as it has happened 3 times on the highway with no warning and limited time to pull over to safety. The dealership is unable to replicate the problem or diagnose an issue.

I was at a stoplight, waiting to making a U-turn. The light turned green release the brake and went to hit the gas. The entire vehicle shut off. I lost all power and had to restart the vehicle in the middle of the intersection with vehicles behind me. It took at least 30 seconds and I ended up having to wait a cycle on the light because I couldn’t go at the time. Once I got the car back on, I lost power steering and my check engine light came on. I was able to make it to parking lot. Once I got there, I parked in the parking space the vehicle did the automatic shut off to conserve energy once I parked I press the button to shut that feature off when I did it the vehicle shut off again. I lost power to everything and had to restart the engine. This has happened multiple times as I believe it’s related to the electrical system and the automatic shut off. I’ve also had multiple other issues with the vehicle in the electrical system. The most recent being that pulling out of a parking lot onto the highway my vehicle would not shift gears, and I had to pull over to the side of the road as I could not get out of first gear. It ended up being the electrical components of the transmission. At the time of the incident listed above, I had just picked up the vehicle from having this issue replaced and had it for less than six hours when this other issue happened. We bought this vehicle used with roughly 58,000 on March 17, 2026, I’ve owned it for just over two months and in those two months it’s been in the shop more than we’ve been able to drive it due to a series of electrical incidents that causes the check engine light to go on or the vehicle to shut off.

Vehicle was driven for 5 minutes before alerting that it was overheating. While attempting to pull into a safe location off of a main road, the vehicle would not allow me to accelerate. This left our family stranded in the turn lane. I was unable to restart the engine or shift into drive.

The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly shut off. The vehicle failed to immediately restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally for a short while before erroneously shutting off a second time. The contact stated that during the failure, another vehicle almost crashed into the rear of the vehicle, and the vehicle failed to immediately restart. Additionally, while operating the vehicle, the instrument cluster malfunctioned and started pixelating, making the screen unreadable. During the failure, the contact was unable to view the safety information, and the lane departure feature was inoperable. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000. The VIN was not available.

2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L Obsidian. Water intrudes into the left headlight assembly through a defective seal, destroying the LED driver module (OEM part #68590086AD) and burning the internal wiring harness connector. This has caused: (1) complete headlight failure while driving in winter conditions with passengers; (2) sudden loss of engine power while in operation; (3) battery failure with standing water found under the battery on the left side; (4) Uconnect/radio/antenna/telematics failure (case open since 30,000 miles, unresolved). All failures traced to the same left-side water ingress point. Jeep Case [XXXX] and Wagoneer Connect Case #[XXXX] both open and unresolved for 18+ months. Vehicle used for licensed medical patient transportation. Multiple roadside assistance calls. Total losses approximately $10,000. The front passenger seat lumbar/massage system malfunctioned and inflated without user input to maximum capacity. The lumbar air bladder became over-pressurized and created a large, hard, immovable bulge in the center of the seatback. The system will not properly deflate and remains in this condition. The failed component appears to be the lumbar/massage module and valve system, which is electronically controlled. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This condition creates a rigid protrusion directly behind the occupant’s spine. In the event of a crash, this would alter occupant positioning, concentrate force on the spine, and interfere with proper restraint function and airbag performance. This will increase the risk of injury to the occupant. The problem has been confirmed by Lander’s Jeep dealership in Little Rock, AR, which acknowledged the issue but advised that diagnosis and repair would be costly and would not be covered under my warranty or extended service contract provided by MOPAR. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to the failure. The issue occurred suddenly during normal use. Online research shows countless similar failures in 2022+ Jeep Grand Wagoneer vehicles, with consistent reports of lumbar/massage module or valve failures causing uncontrolled inflation. Some owners report repeat failures and electrical issues related to the seat module. Given the repeated nature of this failure across multiple vehicles and the potential safety implications, this issue should be investigated as a possible safety defect affecting occupant protection systems. I have multiple more examples of this from Facebook Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer Owner groups, however I am limited to just 10 uploads.

Rear climate control system fails to provide cooled air to the second and third rows during normal vehicle operation. Front vents produce cold air while rear vents blow warm to hot air despite temperature settings at minimum, high fan speed, and recirculation enabled. The condition has been present since vehicle delivery and has persisted despite three repair attempts by an authorized dealership. The problem has been reproducible under both driving and idle conditions. Independent measurements using a probe-based temperature instrument inserted into the vents confirm a significant difference between front and rear discharge temperatures. After approximately 25 minutes of driving in moderate weather (about 72°F ambient), front vents measured approximately 42–44°F while second and third row vents remained approximately 72–86°F. In warmer conditions, rear vent temperatures have exceeded 90°F. Adjusting the front climate control to a normal comfort setting causes rear temperatures to rise further even when rear controls remain set to maximum cooling. The vehicle is a three-row family SUV. The failure exposes rear passengers, including a toddler in a rear-facing car seat, to elevated temperatures during normal driving, particularly in hot and humid southern Louisiana conditions. Young toddlers are more vulnerable to heat exposure and cannot easily regulate internal body temperatures themselves, increasing safety concerns. The defect substantially limits safe and practical use of rear seating areas and remains unresolved despite repeated service attempts. No warning indicators are provided to the driver that rear cooling is inadequate. The condition reduces the vehicle’s ability to safely transport passengers in rear seating positions during hot weather. The vehicle manufacturer, Stellantis N.V., has been formally notified of the condition and is aware of the issue.

On multiple occasions my vehicle has not recognized the key fob when I have been at the vehicle. I have actually been standing by it trying to open the door and it would not respond. Even if I was holding the key fob in my hand next to the door it would not respond. I would have to manually push the unlock button on the fob to be able to enter. This has caused me personal safety concerns when in unfavorable situations and I could not immediately gain access to the interior of my vehicle. The memor seat and easy exit functions have repeatedly failed to operate as they should causing me to be out of position when driving requiring manual resetting of the position. The heads up display consistently shows the incorrect speed limit. Google Maps and Carplay intermittently become disconnected while I am driving creating a safety hazard when I am using Google Maps guidance. The date below is simply the most recent time these happened. Again, these have happened repeatedly over the period of ownership.

Travelling with my young daughter on the Freeway at Freeway speeds at 9pm (nighttime). The entire vehicle just shut down. EVERYTHING - completely dark. Steering went out. Brakes went out. I had to get the car to basically drift to a shoulder and slow down gradually in a spot where we would be safely out of the way of traffic. Again no brakes or steering and completely dead. Hazzard lights would not work. I had to get the car towed and get my daughter and all of our stuff out of the car on the freeway at night in the complete dark. Scary stuff. It's an expensive car and 2022 is the first model year of the Grand Wagoneer. I suspect based on my experience with this car that this model year will have these types of problems going forward. The car has had electrical issues from day 1 and its unsurprising this happened. What is surprising is just how dangerous the situation was when you were in it. It was a shocking experience.
NHTSA complaint #11719041 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Late last year I reported that while towing a trailer, the dash indicated that the trailer had disconnected from the trailer as looking back I noticed the lights were off when the vehicle lights were on. Before I could pull over to check the connection, the lights turned back on and the warning light extinguished. This happened 3 times when towing the trailer that day. The dealership "reprogrammed" the module and said it was good. But after the latest recall for the Wagoneer, having it recalled, I wanted to notify someone about the potential for expanding the vehicles included in the recall.
NHTSA complaint #11719099 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I am filing this complaint regarding my 2023 Jeep Wagoneer, which I have owned for approximately 1.5 years. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced repeated and ongoing mechanical failures, primarily involving the fuel injection system and chronic battery drainage. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership for fuel‑related issues more than five times. During these visits, the fuel pump was replaced, but the problems continued. The vehicle repeatedly triggered check‑engine lights related to the fuel system. At one point, the dealership bypassed or cleared the check‑engine indicator without resolving the underlying problem. After this, the vehicle began performing noticeably differently, including a significant drop in fuel efficiency—going from approximately 18 MPG to around 14 MPG. In addition to the fuel system defects, the vehicle has had persistent battery issues. The battery drains unexpectedly and frequently dies without warning. Even after replacing the battery, the new battery lasted only about three months before the same drainage problems began again. The vehicle will randomly shut down or stop functioning correctly until another battery replacement is performed. These issues raise serious concerns about the safety, reliability, and overall drivability of the vehicle. The repeated failures of both the fuel system and electrical/battery system pose potential safety hazards while driving and have made the vehicle unreliable for normal use. I am requesting that NHTSA review these recurring problems, as they appear to indicate systemic defects affecting vehicle performance and safety.
NHTSA complaint #11716627 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
While driving my 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of power without warning. The engine shut off while the vehicle was in motion, including during a turn. When this occurred, I lost power steering, which made the vehicle difficult to control and created an immediate safety hazard. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had ongoing issues including overheating, repeated check engine lights, and power steering warnings. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership multiple times. A thermostat repair was previously performed, and at a later visit I was told there was an electrical/battery wiring issue that was repaired. Despite these repairs, the problem has continued. The loss of power while driving placed my safety and the safety of others at risk, especially since the failure occurred without warning and resulted in loss of steering assistance. I no longer feel the vehicle is safe to operate, particularly when transporting my children. The issue has been inspected by the dealership on multiple occasions; however, the root cause has not been permanently identified or resolved. Warning lights, including the check engine light, have appeared intermittently prior to the failure. The defect appears to be recurring and
NHTSA complaint #11709320 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
While stopped in traffic with the brake pedal depressed and Auto Hold enabled, my 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L has repeatedly jerked and shifted itself into Park without driver input. This typically occurs after being stopped approximately 20+ seconds, often while a turn signal is activated for a left or right turn. When the failure occurs, the vehicle disables driver-assist systems, the turn signals behave like emergency flashers, false rear tail light error messages appear, and the check engine light turns on and remains illuminated. The vehicle will not move until the brake pedal is applied and the transmission is manually shifted back into Drive. The issue has occurred multiple times at different locations and dates. A recent repair replaced the vehicle’s primary electronics control module(s), but the same behavior occurred again afterward. Due to the unintended shift into Park and unpredictable system behavior, the vehicle is now parked and not being driven because I do not trust it to operate safely in traffic.
